So like that train, they put a bullet in their own damn selves so we don’t have to?

I like it. But I’ll stand ready just in case they try to get me on board.

Somebody appears to not know how politics really works.

Harris Says She’s ‘Completely Confused’ Over Smollett Charges

Democratic California Sen. Kamala Harris confessed during a Tuesday interview with Wolf Blitzer that she was “completely confused” after the charges against “Empire” actor Jussie Smollett were dropped.

“To be perfectly honest with you, Wolf, I’m completely confused. I don’t understand. I don’t know the underlying evidence. There’s a sealed document, obviously. I don’t know. I’m at a loss. I think we’re going to have to leave it up to the judgment of the prosecutor,” Harris answered. “I think we should leave it up to the judgment of the police chief and the mayor, of course, to give us some better sense of what’s going on. I don’t know.”

BTW, the “community service” Jussie did in exchange for dropped charges was two days (18 hrs) volunteering for Jesse Jackson Sr’s Rainbow PUSH Coalition, where he discussed marketing “its products” to young people, and a PBS appearance. Very tough work.

Although they would rather swallow their own tongues rather than admit this, I’ll bet the prosecutors and Smollett’s lawyers cooked up this plea bargain.

Smollett “agreed to abandon” the $10,000 bail deposit? I doubt there is a process to abandon bail… but it sounds better than $10,000 fine…

Smollett just happened to do community service for no particular reason? Yeah, that happens all the time… not…

Long story short, they agree to a plea bargain for Smollett to plead no contest… the details of which get sealed (although I doubt that would stand if challenged)… and the charges are stayed…

I wonder which version of his “attack” Smollett will choose to run with going forward? His story kept changing as long as he thought he was getting away with it.

“they agree to a plea bargain for Smollett to plead no contest”

That Didn’t Happen. The charges were dropped, period, his record wiped clean with a cloth, case sealed. CWB Chicago confirmed the case “…has been removed from Cook County Court Clerk records.” Legally speaking NOTHING happened, he’s in the clear like he was never charged all.

Here in Canada, it’s not unusual for prosecutors to drop charges as part of a plea bargain. The record of the accused is as if the charges never existed… unless the accused for not comply with the conditions (ie: fine not paid or community service not completed) in which case the charges can be reinstated.

I find the process repugnant but the justification is such plea bargains aren’t offered to anyone with a criminal record… and they’re only offered to someone who is contrite etc… Somehow

I doubt Smollett is contrite and I seem to recall he has a record.

      • March 27, 2019 at 1:28 pm
        Roland Deschain

He is far from contrite. I heard his non-apology and he says it was all true and he never lied. He could not be his mother’s son and lie like that. Time to check his ancestry. Maybe he is adopted.

I watched one of the prosecutors interviewed. He said clearly Smollett was not exonerated, there was adequate evidence of guilt and the charges were dropped as part of a plea bargain.

Given the outrage… even Rahm Emanuel pretended to be outraged… the prosecutor has more to explain than Smollett does…

      Bill G

Jussie Smollett was way overcharged to begin with; he never could have been convicted of that much. Gay, Black, Chicago. No chance. But I confess to surprise that it’s all been dropped.
The Federal charges over the mailed threat are still a threat to him, though.

Beyond all of that, wouldn’t you think that blacks and gays everywhere would be looking to lynch that POS for misappropriating their cause and their culture just to further his fame? Of course not, they have used similar tactics for years. Ends, means, etc.

UPDATE: Rainbow PUSH confirms that Jussie Smollett’s 16 hours of community service weren’t even court-ordered

The “community service” was simply Jussie hanging out for a weekend and not really part of the deal. So basically “the deal” was leaving $10,000 on the table and going away, which required an “emergency” hearing, and let him keep declaring his total innocence. Nice justice if you can afford it.

Smollett Case Was Inadvertently Sealed, State Attorney Says

“It was not our decision to have the resolution made under seal,” Foxx explained. “Because of the resolution, Mr. Smollett was allowed to have his criminal record to the police report around the arrest sealed.”

Sealing the entire court record was an ACCIDENT, they always wanted people to know about the deal. Oh and this was a perfectly normal deal for people without a criminal background, like the 2007 DUI arrest where he lied to cops and gave his brother’s name. Nothing corrupt here!
