I am glad I put down the hot tea before I read that.

It is dangerous to one’s health and electronic devices to eat or drink while reading DBD.

And occasionally one’s Blood Pressure. Those of you who visit Baen’s Bar, know the Discussion in Politics concerning the Yellow Vest Demonstrations in France. In Politics section of the Bar, it is getting around to the Police Brutality issue and how it differs from what we see in the US and other ‘Armed Citizenry’ countries…

I will make a prediction in regards to France

Pelosi: We’re rescheduling the SOTU address until after the shutdown ends.
Trump: I’m cancelling the military transport for your House Democrat junket.
Liberals: Trump is such a hypocrite! He did this to retaliate against Pelosi and blamed the shutdown while the administration is still going to the World Economic Summit!
Trump: Oh, and due to the shutdown we’re not going to Davos.
Liberals: Why would Trump deny American representation at such an important event?! Did the Russians make him do it?

And this morning I thought the height of my day was figuring out the digital bathroom scale did strange “steps” of about 1.1 lbs because it’s actually a metric scale that measures in half-kilograms then converts. The metric conspiracy continues. Note how the countries that are officially metric are those with the worse gun laws.

    • pyrodice

Aw it’s not so bad, we measure in 9mm as often as .38″…

      • Lyle

But a 38 is really a 36, so what so we know?

        • Wood

The .38 caliber designation is a holdover from when the .38 cartridge used a heeled bullet; case diameter was the same as it is today, but the portion of the bullet in front of the case mouth was larger, a real .38”. Now the bullet sides are parallel, and if the smaller dimension.

          • PaulS

Hmm, I was under the understanding that the “Thirtyeight” of the “.38 caliber” (actually.357”) refers to the original black powder cartridge and the specific charge of black powder used. But I’m not bothering to look it up, so feel free.

          • eon

            Paul S;

You’re generally correct. The original designation was .36, but bore spec was always .355-.357″.

The “.38” designation was instituted by Colt and Remington in 1866-67, when conversions of percussion .36 revolvers to metallic cartridge were made for the U.S. Army and Navy. The idea being to let military storeskeepers easily distinguish between paper or skin cartridges for the percussion revolvers and rimfire or later centerfire metallic cartridges for the converted (and later new-production) breechloading types.

Similarly, when Winchester introduced the .44 Winchester Centerfire cartridge with the model 1873 rifle in 1873, it was also known as the .44-40 (.44 caliber, 40 grain blackpwder load) to avoid confusion with the earlier .44 Henry rimfire cartridge used in the Civil War Henry and Winchester Model 1866 lever-actions. The two cartridges are not interchangeable, and loading one into the wrong weapon doesn’t work at all.

Most such designations were made for that exact purpose- to prevent confusion. and generally, it worked.

            cheers

            eon

      • jim

And why I carry .40 Cooper instead of 10 mm.

    • James Gemind

      Also from Politics table in Baen’s bar(Spew warning put down your drinks);

Now THAT is a funny post- though clearly unintended.

      your media is biased.

By offering her a deal she cannot refuse knowing she will refuse it anyway and do not be surprised if he offered to help mexico with their gasine problem and securing their southern border as well.

If this continues it will shatter the democrat party. But culturally it ifts and it explains why he spun his fire side chat the way he did.

For those doing the math, a jump from 31% to 50% approval is a 38% increase of approval…:)

    • Bunkerbuilder

The USA went metric in the late 1800s…….

  • Deplorable B Woodman

President Trump didn’t cancel the trip itself. He just cancelled ShamFranNan’s use of military aircraft and transport for the trip.
He also suggested that she (and all the sycophantic entourage) stay home and deal with the Gubberment shutdown.
BUT……..if she really, Really, REALLY wanted to go, then she could fly commercial.
Gawd, I love that Orange Man. Orange Man good.

I heard the name Adam Shitless bandied about as one of those on the entourage. Who else was ready to go……..and was stopped by The Orange Man? (good!)

    • GWB

I loved the fact that he didn’t tweet about it. At all! He put it on official White House letterhead. Was it theatrics? Heck yes! She had done the “I’ll make this official pronouncement with fancy letters and everything. The press will eat it up! And I’ll get his goat.” approach. He just said “Back at ya, toots.”

(That man’s signature, though! Looks like an EKG! 🙂 )

      • Delilah T.

I thought that dTrump’s signature looked exactly like shark teeth…

Remember the opening music from ‘Jaws”? That ominous sound of the hunter at work: Da-dum… da- dum…

        • GWB

          Ha!

    • cfm56dash7

He could have taken the middle ground and cancelled the C-32 (military VIP version of the B757) and let them carry on in the back of a C-130 trash hauler with jump seats installed. The flights would be twice as long, but to make up for it, the interior would be 10 times louder. Trying to think of an appropriate cargo with which they could share the space.

        porta potties

      • Deplorable B Woodman

        NOW you have me ROFLOL!!!
The wife and I have flown on many military aircraft. The C130 is an experience to remember. And never repeat voluntarily.

      • Epador

I applaud your suggestion having spent many hours in the back of a cold and chilly Herc.

    • rickn8or

These were the same people wailing all week about the starving federal employees that were affected by the shutdown, right?

  • interventor

Nancy was a very naughty girl. Daddy grounded her.
When San Fran Nan was Speaker, before, she insisted DoD provide the best outfitted aircraft available to fly her back to the west coast, plus an rather large entourage. USAF provided alcoholic drinks on the flight (small miniatures) , which are provided to regularly to high profile passengers. Nancy was outraged that she would have to pay for the drinks, like everyone else.

    • rickn8or

She had to have a plane with coast-to-coast range because she was “uneasy” about refueling at military bases. IIRC, one of the first trips she made in the C-32 was to Syria to confer with Hafez Assad.

“… now that Daddy took the T-Bird away.”

Brussels, Egypt, Afghanistan: The President cancelled her confab with fellow one world conspirators, the muslim brotherhood, and getting in everyone’s way in Afghanistan. Good move Mr President!

  • JTC

An OT (but not really) observation:

Some knucklehead a while back griped about the little girl’s beautiful blue eyes, and now we’ve got a bunch of squinters. Ungood.

    • NotYetInACamp

I just thought that with the massive growth curve occurring, along with the time warp involving those kids, that the kids were just developing further in the eye of the creator. We still don’t know what they will eventually look like. This creator may be waiting for some inspiration from The Creator. The kids are also developing their humor and personalities. I think that we just can’t see the kids completely right now. They are past NPC’s, but not there yet.

    • WayneM

Have you ever heard someone say a thing so stupid that your eyes automatically squinted as your brain tried to make sense of such nonsense? Watch Tucker Carlson when he is interviewing a leftist and you’ll get a sense of what I mean.

The kids are listening to Skye compare SanFranNan to Rose Parks. “Nough said?

  • I’m seeing it unfold, in the darker regions of my mind. Brussels? UN invasion? Various M.E. stops? Mexican border? Traps? Yeah.

  • Pete231

So, now that DJT cancelled Numbcy’s trip on our dime, maybe she’ll have to make the flight on her broom.

    • eon

Considering the size of the “entourage” (read; leftist fanatic posse) she wanted to take with her (100+ “families”), she’d need at least a 787-sized broom, if not an A380.

This was nothing more nor less than her globe-trotting version of one of Bill Clinton’s “Renaissance Weekends” at a country club, where she and her sycophants were going to meet n’ greet every anti-Western civilization mandarin wannabee and anti-everything Jihadist bombnik they could lay their grubby little protuberances on, to organize yet another round of “fundamental transformation”.

Globalism (and Islamism) uber alles, in other words. While telling themselves how wonderful and superior they are compared to everybody else, of course.

As fa as I’m concerned, if that sort of mental masturbation is what she and her hangers-on want to spend their time doing, they can damned well pay their own way. I suspect the President has a similar opinion.

    Theatrics, signifying little.

    • kadaka

Politics is theater, and Democrats have been staging shows so far off Broadway they’re in Jersey.

  • Wotan

Chris – To capture so much in a single panel ….. *Mind Blown*

  • PaulS

Wouldn’t it have been better to have let the first leg of the trip happen, then grounded the plane at an AFB? Maybe not fair to the base occupants.

  • JTC

Her Lowness expresses her deep concern for the workers that NBC has shown lining up at soup kitchens (pfft, if your income stopped wouldn’t it be more than a few weeks until you were living on the streets?), by transporting her fading and irrelevant but for obstruction wrinkle bag self and a hundred or more of her court away from the unpleasantness of these rabble and across the reaches of her perceived global influence.

“Let them eat cake. But not my cake, your cake! I need mine -okay yours- to take with me as offerings on my tour of the future.”

Corey (NOT Spartacus!) Booker has announced his candidacy for the 2020 run. Just dropping a sour note in here to juice things up a tad. Also, Ms. Obviously Confused is rapidly annoying Congress Persons who are somewhat moderate and now wonder who she is REALLY in league with. (Bad grammar – sorry.)

    • interventor

Steny Hoyer is leading a compromise group for the Democrats. His district in Maryland has lots and lots of federal employees. Whereas, San Fran Nasty had much fewer.

  • interventor

President Trump should have recalled the plane once Pelosi and party had deplaned in Kabul.

  • kadaka

People just need to realize what Nancy Pelosi really wants in life.

First get rid of VP Pence somehow.

    Then impeach Trump.

    Simple!

Quit cussing around the kids Red.

BTW, remember those Center for Medical Progress undercover videos showing Planned Parenthood selling baby parts for fun and profit?

A Federal Appeals Court Just Took A Big Swing At Planned Parenthood

The panel also dismissed Planned Parenthood’s claim that the CMP videos were “deceptively edited,” a soundbite that redounded across the press after the tapes first appeared.

“The record reflects that [the Texas Office of Inspector General] had submitted a report from a forensic firm concluding that the video was authentic and not deceptively edited,” a footnote in the decision reads. “And [Planned Parenthood] did not identify any particular omission or addition in the video footage.”

Many rebukes against PP and their enablers. PP lied, babies died.

      kadaka,

BTW, thanks for your reply to me couple days ago about avatars being Gravatars, etc.

I’ve decided to use my name as: “Greg D.” and I’m checking out both the Gravatar website, as well as WordPress’ section about codexes to see how to set up this small photo I have as my gravatar for the comments section on DayByDay.

      Keep on keeping on, friend!!

      • kadaka

        Codexes?

        Go to Gravatar.com

Click “Create Your Own Gravatar” box.

Create free WordPress-dot-com account or log in with existing one.

Next screen after logging in is a page that says “Manage Gravatars”.

Go to “2. Pick new image”, below that is “Add a new image”, click on that.

        Follow prompts to upload image.

And you’re done! New image is automatically selected, if you have multiple images uploaded you can just click on the one you want. Your Gravatar AUTOMATICALLY will show up here when you use the matched email address. Simple.

        • JTC

That is some very specific info to help others using your own experience from having had to settle for those horns a while back,

And your new effort here reflects that, good job.

Good job too on the PP link above; ever since that video broke I have never once seen it mentioned by the mediots without that bald-faced murder-complicit lie attached. But I’m sure this court rebuke will be widely reported. BTW, of course the babyparts biz and PP itself are further proof of the wisdom of the simplistic but failsafe truism: Follow the money. Always follow the money.

Latinos Like Trump Even More Since The Government Shutdown

“Fifty percent of Latino adults approve of the job Donald Trump is doing as president, according to the latest poll from PBS NewsHour, NPR and Marist.”

But the best benefit of the shutdown remains how it’s revealing what federal government employees are really necessary.

  • Kafiroon

Happiness is seeing a pic of Pelousi at the airport instead of us paying for her to fly like a queen on our Air Force. Maybe she even had to pay for herself!
    I can dream.
