Communication ← Previous post Next post → Comments Paul Jan 12 2019 at 10:50 am What would make a good twist to this story is to face each of them, separately, with the same moral dilemma and requirement to show compassion and see who shows true compassion and truly helps their neighbor. Roland Deschain Jan 12 2019 at 11:45 am You mean like threatening to cut a baby in half to see which is the real mother? kadaka Jan 12 2019 at 11:27 am Progressives wish to remind you that government owns all property but will benevolently allow you to use parts of it for a while by their largesse. Bill de Blasio: ‘We Will Seize Their Buildings, and We Will Put Them in the Hands of a Community Nonprofit’ De Blasio will be making a Mayor’s Office to Protect Tenants to investigate and punish landlords. Except the city already has an Office of Tenant Advocate, that the city council created last year, but the mayor is refusing to fund it, possibly because the mayor wasn’t able to claim credit for making it. And this is after his bold maneuver the day before to force employers to offer 10 days paid vacation to employees, this benefit possibly targeted at recent immigrants (legal and otherwise?) in low-end jobs. “De Blasio’s office specifically highlighted the 470,000 combined employees in the city’s professional services, retail, hotel, and food industries who don’t get paid vacation.” All this and a $15 minimum wage. NYC, the New Workers Paradise. JTC Jan 12 2019 at 11:50 am They have the compassion, you have the cash in. I’m sure the socialized housing will fix the shortage there. And that the Workers Party will sell lots of $20 burgers. interventor Jan 12 2019 at 12:04 pm NYC Public housing is one of the worst landlords in the city. Living conditions for the 100-or-so residents of the Eagle Avenue apartments are emblematic of sweeping neglect by Nycha, the landlord for the nearly 400,000 people in public housing which has been accused of malfeasance, mismanagement and of mishandling the removal of lead paint and mold from its apartments. Residents from more than two dozen households in the 36-unit walk-up on Eagle Avenue between 158th and 161st Streets told the The New York Times that repeated complaints about inadequate heat have gone unheeded by Nycha, their landlord. http://www.theurbanpolitico.com/2018/12/no-heat-in-nyc-public-housing.html JTC Jan 12 2019 at 1:15 pm Are you implying that their abject failure to administer their shit should have any bearing on their gov-given right to take your shit? kadaka Jan 12 2019 at 1:27 pm Residents of NYC are likely going to get colder. They have Con Edison’s Steam Operations heating Manhattan, with 50% of annual steam production from cogeneration (i.e. from waste heat from burning fossil fuels). Likewise there are smaller centralized systems and many places with their own steam-making boilers. 80% of NYC multifamily residences use steam heating. But AOC and de Blasio hate burning fossil fuels and want to replace them with 100% renewables, so there goes the cogeneration, and burning fossil fuels period for steam. Except for very few very localized cases, renewables are all geared for electricity production. But electric boilers for steam heating are not great, you’d be better off with electric heaters in individual units. Which will require a massive upgrading of electrical systems for distribution and for buildings. How many building owners will be footing that bill? How high will the taxes go for how long so the city can help out “as needed”? Henry Jan 12 2019 at 4:04 pm “Nycha, their landlord” Wow. Even the name sounds like a Soviet-era commissar. interventor Jan 12 2019 at 11:42 pm Nycha, cha , Good night Mrs, Calabash, where ever your are. interventor Jan 12 2019 at 1:57 pm Meanwhile, the NYC subway system lurches from breakdown to breakdown due to delayed maintenance. Suggest NYC dwellers invest in walking shoes and, for winter, Wellies. Escape from New York was supposed to be an entertaining movie. Not a warning! JTC Jan 12 2019 at 2:24 pm What? Escape to where? We’ve got more than enough of those abrasive mother fuckers trying to make a filthy nest here in Fla like the one they are “escaping”. Fuck them! Fuck compassion! Listen, just because a migrant invasion involves state lines rather than international ones doesn’t mean it’s any less harmful. #StopTheInvasion. Just kidding. But not really. Stay home. JSStryker Jan 12 2019 at 6:26 pm Does Florida have room for the return of a wayward child (I.E. ME!)? After 16 years in Missouri I am going to finally be moving back during the sprig. JSStryker Jan 12 2019 at 6:27 pm *Spring TomZ. Jan 12 2019 at 7:53 pm What part of Show-Me? If it is in the area affected by “better together” then escaping is a good idea. Old Codger Jan 12 2019 at 10:44 pm In the 5 years I lived in Wichita, Ks, I always heard how Misery was a great state to be “from”. Not a particularly great state to live in , mind you but a great state to be “FROM”. JSStryker Jan 13 2019 at 4:00 am Only really nice thing Missouri has going is their Constitutional Carry laws Tagg Jan 13 2019 at 10:36 am Those damnyankees have invaded SC making it the number one most moved too state now. Their inflated incomes have driven up land and home prices to the point that locals can no longer afford to buy or pay the freaking taxes. We need a wall across the NC border! JTC Jan 12 2019 at 4:00 pm Man, that pre-alzheimer’s condition that I share with you is a bummer. Worst for me is that I more frequently lose my words…sometimes right in the middle of writing something the one I want just won’t come. Hate that shit, and hate letting google dictionaries retrieve my vocabulary for me. For you it appears that it kills your hit count…a lot of the usual suspects in commentary seem to trend toward very late/early compared to our EST. But they’ll be back, even maybe still today, because there just ain’t nothing else like this place. Just have to remember that getting old has it’s good points too… well no that’s a lie, it sucks. But you know, carry on. And try not to fuck up my bedtime DBD fix too much more. TomZ. Jan 12 2019 at 7:55 pm As bad as growing old is, as far as we know it beats the alternative. Kafiroon Jan 12 2019 at 7:55 pm Yeah. That sounds somewhat familiar. I should have added “Just Sayin'” to late last night comment. Pamela Jan 12 2019 at 4:54 pm Telling a Mama Bear to chill is like telling a the Government they can’t raise taxes. Interesting Outcome in both cases. kadaka Jan 12 2019 at 5:07 pm Very strange. ABC News informed me again today that the vast majority do not want The Wall. Yet this Jan 2019 Politico poll reports, question POL24, that 44% support The Wall, 47% oppose, with 9% Don’t Know/No Opinion. Margin of error +/-2% so with a 3-point spread statistically it’s a wash. I don’t think they understand what is a majority, except that it’s something they know they’re in because they’re hip and down with the people. kadaka Jan 12 2019 at 5:22 pm This is how you send a message to those stupid people who rent storefronts and buy insurance and pay taxes. Los Angeles Legalizes Street Vending So Illegal Immigrants Can Make Money James Gemind Jan 12 2019 at 6:41 pm Does the Law say ‘Only Illegal Immigrants can do such’? If not, then anyone can do so. If it does say Only the Illegals can do so, then it is time for the ACLU to get to work for Americans being Discriminated against… NotYetInACamp Jan 12 2019 at 11:59 pm They are just the posh and worthy of the posh bashing the African gang members engage in there in Dublin and elsewhere. 500,000 more imported Africans is the goal of the Irish President and his party by 2030. Gotta have 8 million people in a new diverse Ireland by 2040. Facts de damned. The policy of the Irish government is to frak the Irish. Who cares about a population that has roots back to the last Ice Age when the ice receded and opened up to Ireland to compassionate immigration hijrah invasion from oppressed Africa which is so oppressed that it is doubling the number of people there to emigrate across the world and that includes the EU and the USA. The UN and friends love you for your work. they want it all.
