Uh-uh, Jan ain’t quite as tan as yesterday in two spots. Could it be she’s still breastfeeding the latest and usually keeps the spots covered and free of sunblock lotion but sometimes puts on makeup for the look?

Of course it’s not because the artist is too busy prepping for the GlobalClimateWarmingChange-proving soon-to-be-Cat 4 incoming storm, since that never happens.

As I said in a late response to your similar quip “yesterday”…

“True about the overblown scare tactics on the himacane, they live for that shit that can fill up almost as much text and teevee space as a shooting. But. Anybody that has been through the real deal knows not to trifle with even the possibility of a direct hit especially when you live in a swamp that has already been saturated. With the target right now somewhere between my son in West Palm Beach and Chris around Melbourne, it’s a serious threat that requires serious prep, and some serious prayers that it is indeed another over-hype.”

        Ayup.
And I am between you and Chris.
Having experienced hurricanes and, or, their aftermaths since before I admit here, I now usually just tidy up the place a bit and see what damage is done. I heard the tornado while standing outside, in the lee, that took the roof off of our only nearby restaurant and shops 2 miles down the road. I wish everyone safe passage through this storm. It has slowed down and is expected over us around 8PM as of this forecast. Slower speed usually means strengthening. This storm can do anything right now. We could get lucky and it dissipate. I don’t see that happening.
I cut one about 45 foot oak branch that could fall on a friend’s RV that will be parked next to the front of the house. There are oak trees and a Quonset hut blocking wind on all sides of the home and RV. There is good hope. All temporary provisions were bought two days ago thus avoiding the crowd.
An older brother called, and after he asked how I was taking it, I changed tone from calm to a screaming into the phone: “We are all going to die! We are all going to die!” One has to have fun no matter the seriousness of the situation. Good judgements will tell. Time for sleep.

Prayers for all near here or also in the track. I keep all prepared except for minor work needed right before the storm. And the pond is high and the area is water saturated. Power was out 11 days for me after the last storm. I am at the end of the line.

However Chris Muir is a professional who wouldn’t let prepping get in the way of making a quality comic, that never happens. 🙂

Chris is on a sandbar “barrier island” about a half-mile wide separating (for now) the Atlantic Ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway (known there as the Indian River), with a mile-long bridge connecting to the mainland. And he ain’t dumb. Also if needed he knows the way to safe(r) haven and whatever refuge I can help provide a few hours inland.

Son is in Palm Beach Gardens a few miles in from the barrier island of Palm Beach, home to Mar a Lago. He reserved a room before they were all booked for Sun-Thur a few miles further inland at the PGA resort hotel that has generators, but not lifeboats. He ain’t dumb either; he just texted me a few minutes ago that he, his girl and her small child will probably head over here tomorrow. Sebring is still in the expected path, as is NYIAC up the road a ways, but about a hundred miles off the water. We fully expect damage, flooding, and power loss but with a gen wired into the panel we will have refrigeration, microwave, and a cooled room with a portable a/c. Also about to fetch the old motorhome from storage as it has its own gen and rooftop a/c if it doesn’t blow off in the storm.

We’ll see. Can’t control this shit, although nuking that fucker sounds more plausible right about now. :). Like everything else that life and nature throws at us, we will just have to deal, nobody will do it for us. But what we should never do is allow our idiot wannabe overlords to appropriate truth and reality for their own benefit to the extent that we ignore the truth and reality itself.

Be prepared the Boy Scouts and six decades taught me, and I try to do that in everything to protect and provide for those who rely on me…whether that means maintaining the means to defend what is mine from the forces of man’s evil or the forces of nature. God willing and the creek (or ocean) don’t rise. 🙂

Like U.S. politics, Dorian needs to make a hard, right turn, immediately. Unfortunately, we need to plan for the worst, and hope for the best. Prayers up for Chris, JTC, and everyone in Florida.

On a brighter note, today’s cartoon is a tight, deft, pointed classic that works on so many levels, touching on an amazing number of the “DBD Topics” in the right sidebar. From the setup in panel 1, through the knockout punchline in panel 2, Chris weaponized the artwork and the English language as precision guided munitions.

“Governator” in lieu of Terminator has “Fredo” Cuomo reaching out in sympathy to “Ahnuld” while feeling better about his own impotence. And thankful Chris never did a strip about him.

Naomi’s perfect coup de grace and the formatting and editing of Jan’s final word bubble lead to an “Ahnuld” whose pose, expression, and words are a masterpiece in themselves, and perfectly sum up the “all show and no go” of the self-anointed elites who think they should rule the world.

Still keeping a careful watch here in Charleston. Our concern is the rain and storm tides. We’ve already had a higher-than normal tide amplified by building on-shore winds with some street flooding in the Eastern edge of the city. It should ease as the tide goes out, but this is the leading edge. Food, water, generator, and cat-food on hand. And my State Guard S&R Team has already called for who will be available for Sept 1st-7th. Our big concern is the heavy rain going North West of us, then flooding down thru the mountains to the PeeDee and Low Country regions like it did last year. We’ll be ready!

In Arnold’s defense, when he first became Governor he introduced eight propositions for the people to vote on. They were good, common-sense proposals. I voted for all eight. One was changing the public employee pension away from defined benefit, another required parental consent for minors wanting an abortion. Orange County sat home pouting and didn’t vote. This, combined with a massive, non-stop media attack, spelled defeat for his effort. After that he kind of said FY to anything even resembling conservative or moderate principles.

That’s a major concern only if the funbot cannot be trivially wrestled away. Which in turn would happen only if the customer buys a relatively heavy-duty model, rather than a weaker one that’s going to be cheaper.

The whining is great over here on the west coast. Had numerous errands so got to hear.
No gas, n0 water, no generators and a number of stores have removed frozen food just in case. Stayed away from home depot and lowes, so don’t know about a plywood status.

I don’t think any of these people have ever been near a hurricane before after living here for years.

JTC: European Center for Medium Range Weather Forecast Looks like it will stay just off the coast heading North at this time.
Global Forecast System shows it hitting right about noon Tuesday, say just short of Cocoa.

Big change from yesterday, pob’ly another big change tomorrow. Irrelevant; just check out the “spaghetti” models and pick one. Same with the rain forecast, like my old granddaddy said, percent this or percent that it’s always fifty percent, either it will or it won’t.

Still, if a big one chooses you, be prepped like it’s TEOTWAWKI, because it might be.
