Need the Nation, Men and Women, Politics, and a hundred other cloud tags for this one, Chris.

    Sums up the world, nicely.

The chainsaw bayonet attachment is just a tool, good for clearing the brush in front of you. Nothing scary at all.

Some change-up in the art work, Chris?

Can’t quite place what’s different, but Sam’s looking different and better for some reason and I don’t think it’s just the pony tail.

“The [Democrat] Party seeks power entirely for its own sake. We are not interested in the good of others… We are different from all the oligarchies of the past in that we know what we’re doing… Power is not a means, it is an end… The object of power is power… Always there will be the intoxication of power… We are the priests of power… Power is power over human beings, over the body; but above all over the mind… The real power; the power we have to fight for night and day is not power over things but over men. How does one man assert his power over another… by making him suffer… Power is in inflicting pain and humiliation.” George Orwell- 1984

The freaky part is Orwell was a vocal supporter of “Democratic Socialism” although supposedly he was anti-totalitarian. Not sure how that’s supposed to work since socialism invariably ends up going totalitarian…

Orwell was a textbook example of cognitive dissonance.
He wrote so succinctly of the evil mindset of Socialism and yet was a lifelong Socialist himself.
The only reason I can think of for this anomaly is that, like other Socialists, he believed Human Nature was somehow infinitely malleable rather than the bedrock foundation of our very being.
It is not an accident that Socialists reject Religion. The Judaeo Christian Scriptures are, in the end, even if you can’t bring yourself to believe in an Afterlife, a commentary on that Nature, and they are by no means exhaustive. Just ask Jordan Peterson.

It’s all about control, indeed. The left is terrified of the citizen who comes to understand that he/she is their own first line of defense and buys a gun to better do that. Because that person just might look around, and see other things to do for themself, instead of waiting for the government to do it. And when enough people get that mind set the left is done.

“the responsibilities for the new hires, as per the United Nations job listing” looks like they want generals not street thugs. Those requirements seem way beyond common everyday people and their planning, writing and probably understandable English.

And Yes, they will make great absorption material.

Despots (and would-be despots) have always and WILL always seek to disarm those over whom they would rule for the simple reason that it makes it more difficult for their subjects to rebel. They forget that while disarming the populous makes rebellion more – VASTLY more difficult – it does not make it impossible. A sufficiently large group of sufficiently motivated unarmed (at least not conventionally armed) serfs can take down an armed and fully armored mounted man at arms. They will not do so easily or bloodlessly but they CAN do it. As Stalin put it

Quantity has a quality all its own.

Unfortunately for the wannabe despots, the populous-disarmament ship sailed long – two centuries and more – ago and the numbers are vastly in favor of the potential rebels.

Socialism does not reject religion; it is a religion. It rejects competing religions.

(As do most religions, “I am the Lord thy God, and thou shalt have no other god before me.” I got into big trouble in confirmation class by asking how one could convert to Christianity. (conversion requires the abandonment of prior gods.))

Any semi competent backyard mechanic or person that is familiar with tools is quite capable of being very dangerous with tools. The difference between them and ‘others’ is being able use and know how to create other tools.

I found a sealed bag, it had the user manual for a microwave, the previous one. That oven had come in, was used for years before the bottom rusted out, then was creatively reduced to discrete parts since local waste management no longer accepts electronics. For its lifespan, I never used its instructions even once.

    I won.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission should have banned them decades ago.
