There’s a little known and quite amazing fact about the Fourth of July.
Three of our first five Presidents died on the Fourth of July.
Thomas Jefferson and John Adams, two members of the Committee of Five that wrote the Declaration of Independence, died on the same day, July 4, 1826, fifty years to the day after the Declaration was passed.
Daniel Webster wrote a famous eulogy for Adams and Jefferson that described the timing of their deaths as proof that God has blessed America.
James Monroe died on July 4, 1831, exactly five years later.

I read one account about Jefferson’s death that stated that Jefferson’s last words were as he was laying in bed, feeling his own pulse, when he looked up and said: “It’s stopped.”
RIP to two of the Greatest Men.

And correspondence from later in their lives revealed they had mostly sewn up the rifts between them. Not an Adams fan; he seemed a bit despot to me. Jefferson is to be thanked for his Trumpian end-run around Congress to “find out what we’ve bought” in funding the Lewis & Clark expedition.

Wouldn’t it be ironic?! If only history really repeated itself? I can think of 3/5 right now! Opinions may vary. 😉
Back in the day I appeared as the innkeeper in a production of “Annie Get Your Gun” in Grand Island, Neb. In one scene the young Annie Oakley came to me with a bird for sale, and bragged that she shot it in the head so there was no shot in the meat.
Come dress rehearsal the prop manager handed a real plucked bird to the teenage actress. She recoiled. “What is *that?”* We had to explain to her it was what her Mom started with to make fried chicken.
That’s why I preferred a Savage in .22/.410 for partridge and grouse, if they were siting you use the .22, if flying the .410 and aim carefully, it only takes one #6 pellet in the head to kill one so lead it more than usual 😉 The only problem is that around here, upland bird season overlaps deer season and it’s illegal tto hunt deer with a .22 I got grief from a Game Warden for carrying the Savage and he didn’t seem to understand that not having any .22 ammunition with me and the firing pin removed from the .22 barrel made it pretty much unuseable. Oddly enough, he never asked if I had any .410 slugs with me 🙂
Perhaps that would explain the “First shot” that no one was sure which side fired. It was the sonic boom of the reentering goose! The first use of a hypersonic weapon in combat!

Tomorrow’s your day, we already had ours, possible the last one if this gov’t has its way…celebrating it makes the immigrants feel bad…
Enjoy saying what you want down there for as long as you can, if the new version if the dem party ever gets into power you’ll be seeing things like this…I’m already waiting for a knock at the door..or to have it kicked in at 3AM by ‘cultural officers’ wearing turbans and burnooses.
“…Industry Minister Mélanie Joly’s department in an Access To Information memo contemplates “legal action” against users on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and other social media sites it suspects of spreading “false and misleading information.” The censored 35-page memo did not explain what action federal lawyers would take: “This strategy seeks to uphold the integrity of and public trust in government information.” …”
I think the local Thought Police would find a much more violent greeting than they would like.
“…And how we burned in the camps later, thinking: What would things have been like if every security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family? Or if, during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat there in their lairs, paling with terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand? After all, you knew ahead of time that those bluecaps were out at night for no good purpose. And you could be sure ahead of time that you’d be cracking the skull of a cutthroat.”
― Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, The Gulag Archipelago 1918–1956
The unfortunate part is that many up here think this is a good idea…enough to vote them in again, because it’s obviously ‘Trump’s fault’. It’s too late for us, save yourselves…while you still can.
“This strategy seeks to uphold the integrity of and public trust in government information.”
ROFLOLMFAO!!!!
OMFG!!!! They have GOT to be serious in their hypocrisy.
Integrity? Trust?
I trust anything from any Gooberment about as far as I can throw them over my left shoulder with my right arm.
Which of the twins will Franklin hit on? I think Yes is the answer. Dad might find it both disturbing and hilarious. Sam a bit indignant that she didn’t get any attention. From Ben’s pov we see his radar lock on Sam then outline the danger in the shadows behind her. Secret superpower from being hit by lightning? Or Common Sense…
That goose could possibly have a better reach in ballistics than a turkey.
The goose is carrying a higher load of launch fuel that could contribute to a hotter, longer “burn” time during lift off.
Well, not really. That would be true if the fat was concentrated at the rear of the bird, or rather whichever part was pointing away from the direction of travel. But if the fat is evenly distributed that burning on the sides would have little effect, and that in front would counter what was in the rear. So it wouldn’t make much difference in velocity or range.
AFAIK a bird from a fryer is more like a mortar shell than a rocket, in that all the force is exerted before it leaves the tube. OTOH still-flaming fat would make a difference when it landed, like Greek fire from a trebuchet.
A twelve-hour countdown timer running from sometime earlier in the day, and the evening of March 5th, 1770 the time of the Boston Massacre … Yikes, Crispus Attucks was one of the fatalities.
If Javier is killed while time traveling in the past, is he dead for all time, or just until the clock runs out? If Javier & Zeds’ knowledge of history avoid Crispus being killed, how has the world changed when they get back? If they get back, since Jan and Damon might never have met in the alternate timeline?
I believe the ladies will have trouble calling on Dr. Franklin, he was back in London by that time, evolving from his earlier accommodationist views into someone the British considered a fomenter of trouble. He returned to Philadelphia in the spring of 1775.
Will there be any cooking utensil in the 1770 kitchen that can handle the chamber pressure Sam needs for a launch? 🙂 🙂

Not frozen, but a much higher fat content than a turkey.
Sam and a Franklin Stove may set a new record for Specific Impulse and megatons of yield at the same time.
To boldly go where no goose has ever gone before….

Ironically, Adams’s last words were “Jefferson still lives.” And he was wrong, because Jefferson had died just a few hours before.
I read one account about Jefferson’s death that stated that Jefferson’s last words were as he was laying in bed, feeling his own pulse, when he looked up and said: “It’s stopped.”

So…..what is Sam going to shoot down? Ben’s kite? A British ship in the “Bastahn habah”?
Impact area should be somewhere around Lexington or Concord…the splat heard ’round the world !!

Actually, Ben was a MILF man (if not a GILF man).
He counted on the gratitude.
