Sunday is Funday down at the ‘ol swimmin’ hole…a multi-panel extravaganza of sweet ‘n sexy T&A.

But only if we peg the bar by Saturday which is the day before the final day after which the page will otherwise go dark…well maybe not but still, any y’all deadbeats what ain’t paid up, do it! And all that have, try to squeeze out another 50 or at least 20 on Saturday to keep the lights on and keep Chris in beans and beer, that’s what I’ll be doing if it ain’t done by then. So everybody join me at the money hole Sat so we can all enjoy the fun and frolic at the mud hole on Sunday.

I just checked my WF account and it shows my check was cashed. I will add a bit more but it won’t come in time for Saturday, I’m afraid. That said, it will still add to your ‘beans and beer’ money. 🙂

It looks like I started something yesterday concerning the weaponry used by the chilluns’. And since my name is used in a couple of episodes for a particularly loathsome character I hate Seinfeld and his troop of sackless wonders. Please note that the program made it “ok” to be a pussified male. Elaine had the biggest set on the set and I don’t think there was a scarier moment then Kramer going commando.

For the uninitiated and George, the numbers represent the number of lead balls it would take to equal a pound. i.e. 16ga takes 16 1 ounce balls, 12 ga take 12 balls. This works all the way up to .410 which is a decimal inch dimension for the bore. 10 ga is the currently largest gauge allowed for hunting in the US. 8ga guns are available on the market but go for real money and are usually held in collections and shot rarely as the ammo is uncheap. They were used for market hunting of ducks in the north and quail hunting here in the south. YMMV.

    That’s a decent amount of trivia for a h8r…

FWIW I hate the culture it reflects (not the other way around, shows don’t “make” anything happen), but there is just no denying the often sublime genius of the writing of Larry David, the show was about him not the characters, witness the abject failure of all the main cast members doing anything afterwards, although Kramer (Richards) did stand out in his stand up when he called out the “niggers”. Cost him any further work, today it might cost him his life…and a lot of other cultural references like homosexuality (“not that there’s anything wrong with that”) and sexism (playing with a girl’s toys after knocking her out) would get slapped down fast in today’s “culture”. Shows didn’t cause that either, it was the same gang of commies and racists in politics, media, etc.

And even watching reruns of that show uncovers more of the absolute brilliance of the cultural commentary of the day…including the dickless wonders which was already a thing and got played out in some incredibly obscure ways, like the “gauge” bit that would zoom right over the heads of at least half the population which would include David himself.

Credit where due, brother…while the great majority of the infotainment industry is in the tank for full-blown socialism and misandry, some of the best talent is on the other side, and that too is a reflection of, not a cause of where we are now. Have another look at some of the movies, actors, and editorials of the WWII years and see where we were in terms of our cultural attitudes, and where we might at least partially be again, depending on what happens and is allowed to happen in the next decade or so.

BTW, at a full pound, that is one big-ass and heavy-ass sixteen gauge shell you’re talking about there; that would make all the rest of them look like cap pistols… 😉

Well crap, you were giving the pellets per pound for gauges not for a shell; that’ll teach me to think before I snark… 🙁

BTW, the next best sit-com was Barney Miller. Characters and writing were a bit more masculine, but is there any doubt the actors weren’t?

No No, I read it the same way
        “i.e. 16ga takes 16 1 ounce balls, 12 ga take 12 balls.”
Since we know what he meant, we can sort it out, but more accurately>>>
The gauge number is determined by the number of bore sized balls it would take to make a pound. (now it all makes sense, right?) LOL
Except .410 of course which is the same as .45 Long Colt, but hey, who’s to nit pick around here? 😉

      • July 15, 2019 at 2:17 pm

No, he was right and I was wrong and inattentive; the formula varies the size/weight of the balls used to total a pound for each gauge…it takes sixteen one-ouncers to make up that pound for a sweet sixteen, but just twelve one and a third ouncers for a twelve gauge, and so on. A little convoluted, but accurate and nothing to do with bore-size balls.

Yup on the balls in all senses but in the spirit of the 50th this summer the Astronauts who got in those (built by the lowest bidder) rockets clanked when they walked. I agree on Barney Miller as being a “great written show.” I’m not exactly a hater hater on Seinfeld but the reruns, for me anyway, are hard to watch. Maybe in another decade or so when I’m at my cask dregs I’ll be senile enough to laugh again.
