A person can try to outrun some things, but Death and Taxes always has the upper hand when in play. There is always a reckoning.

Notwithstanding the last panel, right or wrong and for better or for worse those who relocated were likely trying to escape before not after they were infected…

This is hyper-hypothetical in this context but I have to say if I have the means and the method to get my family out of harm’s way i’m doing it too.

“a” tourist? In Panama City? Dude. Or maybe spring break? And they don’t call it redneck riviera because of New Yawkers, it’s the hill people (my people!) out of Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee etc.

New Yorkers head instinctively for the Yankee enclaves in Broward and Palm Beach Counties, and no doubt some brought the bug with them, hence the different treatment there, but it was coming regardless, and in spite of Trumpesque attacks by libs he has done a pretty solid job proving them wrong just like his idol DT.

Many people said the same thing in Hong Kong When the China Control physical virus received Hong Kong from the British.
Millions packed and left. Similar now after China cancelled the 50 years of Hong Kong Rule law.
      Same place. Different threats.

Why and how the CCP is destroying what was great about Hong Kong.
      They are fighting back.
The Hong Kong Police no longer are the people;s protectors. They now protect the interests of the CCP.

Part of my “wherewithal” for keeping my family safe is to not live in a city with an international airport or a major port.

Yep. Looks a little like the 2016 county by county red/blue map. 🙂

And that’s the hyper-hypothetical part in my comment above…I would take whatever measures I am capable of to protect my family; that’s not TPB (typical prof behavior), it’s take no prisoners watchdog father behavior.

But that goes to the same standard that you allude to that we apply to our everyday survival, Situational Awareness. Whether you are loading up the CC piece to be ready to employ deadly defense out in public or loading up the SUV to find safer shelter to hunker in, if you stay the hell out of places where shit tends to happen you probably won’t have to shoot no damn body, and if you stay the hell out of proven cesspools of mis and mal management, you won’t have to endanger yourself and others to get out. But all of that said, I’ll do whatever I have to to protect me and mine.

That may be a Me Me Me philosophy but it ain’t commie or leftist, it’s my God given duty.

That’s close to a bingo there kafiroon…always follow the money.

And the numbers mean more of it from you and me, hence the real and created covid deaths in packed concentrations of not just blue people but blue “leaders” who have no problem sacrificing a few thousand to the disease and attributing many more thousand to it that were due to age and illnesses that were co-opted for the cause…

Only about 20% of those deaths were actually directly due to covid but that don’t feed the bulldog, or rather the communist bear. The real numbers of the top ten causes of death in the first half of 2018 compared to 2020 prove that plainly. But who will investigate and publish that?

One thing we can be sure of is that Trump will fight to minimize federal (our) dollars going to their employment security plan.

GOV Abbott asked the city folk to not come out to the country, because there would not be enough medical support if they did get sick. Most, oddly enough, listened. We only had a couple weeks of city folk buying up everything in the little grocery stores here, and then they all went home, because there wasn’t enough stuff for them to hoard. Most of us could last a couple weeks without, and then the stores started getting their stocks back up to normal levels, so we’ve been fine.

The nearest big city is gradually opening, even with Democrat elected officials, because they know if they don’t, there will be a reckoning very, very soon. The mayor’s daily briefing tells folks flat out that, because there’s been a backlog of tests now coming out, there will be spikes in positive tests, but unless those folks go to hospital, don’t get excited. The total number having COVID-19 is going down, even as the city opens and more tests are completed.

Same thing happening in my county, which still has a very low infection rate, in spite of being a tourist destination. Makes me very, very glad to not be in the New York migration routes.

People tell me that China would’ve never killed their own people to intentionally start the spread of a virus…..bull shit, they killed millions of their own in the 40’s and 50’s without batting an eye….the problem may be that this virus is not as lethal as they thought it might be, and therefore we can expect another, different strain….the leftist media is upset that America has passed the 100K mark for deaths, many of which were attributed to the virus that really were not….can you imagine if we had reached the 1 or 2 million mark as the leftists initially projected….

I think they were hoping the death rate would have been more along the lines of 30% of the population. They’ve got their beady little eyes on US for our resources and were hoping it would be worse.

The ChiComs are highly motivated to kill off their own people. Notice the virus preferentially kills off the least productive members of society. I suspect, but of course cannot prove, that Covid 19 was extensively tested on political prisoners before its release just to make sure the right target population was most affected.
Beijing is obsessed with stability and control, and this was threatened with their coming economic collapse. They’ve been planning for this piece of biological warfare for a long time. Note that they went to the trouble of corrupting the WHO and installing their hand picked flunky before the release of the virus to maximize the effect of their weapon.
But now I have to wonder if there is more than one strain of the damned thing. If this has been in the works for so long, could they not also develop an attenuated version to infect the elite and protect them prior to the release of the Wuhan version?

I was speaking with a friend the other day. She said another friend that I also know had been notified her Mother had died of Covid in NY three days prior. Somehow this Woman got into the hospital and finally found her Mother on a gurney in a hallway… Alive. Took pictures and emailed them out. Turns out her Mom had Pneumonia. I do not know what happened after that, though I think there are some who will be wishing they had gone into Automotive Repair instead of Medicine once all the pieces are on the table.

Another step in the long trail to colonize off Mother Earth.
I see parallels here between the (past) colonization of the New World and the (future) colonization off Earth.
The brave & the bold, the misfits and those wanting freedoms, left the mother society to try their luck and fortune. Many succeeded, many failed. But those that succeeded made a model for those following behind to build on. (yeah, yeah, I’m getting pedantic. So sue me)
So many parallels in so many RAH books.

Feel ya. With 66 looming in August I don’t think i’lol be feeling space sand between my toes either.

Tell ya what though; if as in your scenario I was given back thirty years with precognition of what the ensuing years would bring, I’da damn sure bought that 100 acre mountaintop parcel in Andrews NC when it was offered to me by friends who bought the whole 1200 mountaintop in 1990. Too damn old for that now too.

“I’ll do it later…” and they kept my choice piece for me for twenty years, during which several of them built the most awesome and serene and scenic “view cabins” I’ve seen. I told them to let it go and it went to the son of the former chief of police of the city in Palm Beach County where I lived back then, who was one of the original Florida Mountain Boys built one of those great cabins on the parcel next door. for the same 100k I could have bought it for, in spite of an agent’s submission of an offer by a stranger for 350…talk about great neighbors, those guys have created a pretty wonderful and well protected world.

But anyway, yeah that three decades zipped by in the blink of an eye while I was busy making plans to go there…life happened as they say.

It’s been a good life and we raised a fine family so not too many regrets. But that particular missed opportunity is one that I can’t help wondering about, and yeah, tinged with a good bit of regret especially considering the events since.

        Nice thought.
Balsam Mountain North Carolina was where many of the Dade and Broward County people went to get out of the heat before air conditioning became normal.
My grandfather bought about 20 acres near the top of the mountain with great views of the beautiful mountains from them. One log cabin, three cabins for rental, 9 acres of cherry orchard. My mother’s name was supposed to be on the deed as she provided at least half of the money. Beware step grandmothers. The names were changed to strip assets from the innocent trusting ones. Papers shown were not the ones filed. She sold it off cabin by cabin and the orchard after my grandfather died. It actually was a beautiful bit of real estate. I stayed there one month one summer with two of my brothers. It was back when kids were safe to take the train. We rented on another couple of years for two weeks. Family friends that we went to school with their children, the father a deposed Attorney General of a then well off South American nation coordinating staying in a hotel at the base of the mountain while we rented a cabin further up the mountain.
I like those Blue Ridge mountains.
My sister also sold off the no homeowner association house, with a spring with good flowing water for the home, inside a gated community up the mountain not too far from the Appalachian Trail near the Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina border. She was so proud of getting the price that the realtor had suggested which was how much my parents had paid for it. I found out that the real estate company had a big party the day that it closed in celebration of the sale. It was undersold. I was not told about it being for sale. Real estate people and lawyers. Trust in them is often misplaced.
