The M5 28 inch barrel in 6.5 reaches out and touches a lot farther than a 22LR can. Just the way my patient wife likes it.

        Pamela,

You continue to inspire all of us.

Slightly Off Topic: Managed to find a whole pound of Grade B Bourbon Vanilla Beans from Madagascar at slightly less than the usual stratospheric prices, and just put up several pints of double-fold Vanilla in various liquors (including Tequila, of course).

It’s possible to have more ammunition than you can run with on a Red Flyer but there’s no such thing as “too much”. (When the BATFE tells you that you have to build a “bunker” for storage …) Don’t skip mortgage payments to buy ammo but is Netflix really that important?

IF you own a forklift because you need it to move and store your ammo, THEN one could be forgiven for starting to think they MIGHT have enough ammo.

There is no such thing as too much ammo.

A useful life goal may be to get to the point where you are locking up multiple forklifts, as well as your ammo.

Just remember that unless the ammo is in magazines (or better yet, belts), it is not really yours, it is still in the Supply System. It might be in your Supply System, but it is still in the Supply System.

There are two times when you can have too much ammo: if you’re on fire or trying to swim.

Don’t forget all the cleaning products and any replacement parts, springs etc…

      • October 1, 2021 at 1:01 pm

As to parts, I have always advocated redundancy…on the principle that two is one and one is none, having an identical backup for your three or four go-to tools means it’s there as a donor for every part *if* needed, and to use for its intended purpose *when* needed…

Good question SOV, I have a AR-7 (Henry) and it is very
particular about ammo, CCi mini mag LR works very
well, no failures, Federal does not, but it may be that
other hi velocity rounds would work.

Still have an old one. I suppose that a I have not shot it lately. I will adjust ammo buying accordingly.

I had no luck with just plain .22 Long back in the late 80s in my charter arms version but I was also using nothing but after market hi-cap mags as I had lost the small original one.

mentioned the other day keeping a copy of Green Eyes, Black Rifles near my desk for handy reference, and so I figure I’ll list out the other books I keep handy. Sometimes it’s easier than opening another tab, and sometimes they contain info that’s not really otherwise searchable or available online.
Some edition of Cartridges of the World. (I’m currently using a fairly old 12th Edition, but the old stuff doesn’t change much.)

The Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson.

History of Smith & Wesson by Roy Jinks.

Smith & Wesson Hand Guns, McHenry & Roper.

Smith & Wesson 1857-1945: A handbook for collectors, Neal & Jinks.

Bolt Action Military Rifles of the World.

Collecting Classic Bolt Action Military Rifles.

        Military Bolt Action Rifles 1841-1918.

        Savage Automatic Pistols*, James Carr.

        Savage Pistols, Brower.

Kuhnhausen’s shop manuals for the S&W revolver and the Colt .45 Automatic.

Factory armorer’s manuals for the Glock and M&P.

A Textbook of Automatic Pistols**, R.K. Wilson

Textbook of Pistols and Revolvers, Hatcher

*The Carr book is essential for anyone who wants to venture into collecting Savage pocket autos. It concisely breaks down the 1907, 1915, and 1917 into all their consecutive subtypes in chronological order by the different distinguishing features, and it’s small enough to carry along to gun shows.

**R.K. Wilson’s delightful textbook, as complete a guide to early autos as there is, is being reprinted in paperback!@Chicken, if you mean the junk-ass ramline products, load them up and take them out for fun, but with their fail rate don’t depend on them for important stuff. Gunbroker will have an original and even if you have to pay $50 it’s worth it for function and will come back on resale, gotta have an original mag. And go ahead while you’re at it and get a long-box (100) of CCI standard velocity. Somebody mention something like a mini-mag blowing up the gun, that’s odd and so hadn’t heard of it before even with the oldest Charters, and does in any case seem unlikely given the relative impotence of even hotter double deuce loads unless there was -what’s the word for what really kills a majority of covid patients…”comorbity”!), yeah that’s it, unless that little rifle had a “comorbidity”! 😉

Anyway, get a factory mag and save those junk hi-caps for the range.

      • October 1, 2021 at 3:53 pm

Well there’s a mess…bottom part of that starting at @Chick was what I intended to post in reference to his Charter .22.

The first part I had saved in the browser and accidentally posted is about another redhead, a woman gun blogger at VFTP and gun rag contributor who says that little reference library is at hand by her desk. Damn.

Unfortunately … Never Enough cuts both ways.

The Democrats’ lust for power is never enough. Their thirst for tax dollars is never enough. Their desire to crush our freedoms is never enough.

To these statists … Never Again.

So … this is absolutely g-dd@mn right.

The purchasing and accumulation of guns and ammo is never enough …
