Col. Klink in the clink? Funny. My dream is for him to have a lot of company in there…each with their own personal Leroy like the one behind him.

  • No gravitic drive? Keep telling yourself that, dear.

    • Old Codger

Nope. No gravitic drive. Not even on the horizon. Not even in theory. Even the current imagineering of a “warp drive” requires a shed load of unobtanium. A gravitic drive would only be useful as an in-system drive anyhow. Folks forget that even gravity propagates at light-speed (“C“). C is the maximum speed for the propagation of information. Absent some sort of reactionless (i.e. not having to throw part of yourself away) drive, even using a gravitic drive in a star system would involve propagation delays. Throw a grav beam at the moon and you wouldn’t start moving for almost 2 seconds. Throw one at the sun and you’re talking about a prop delay of over 16 minutes before you get moving. Space is enormous and light is slower than molasses at Barrow, Alaska in the dead of winter.

      • kadaka

However communication using quantum-entangled particles is making great strides, and is demonstrating instantaneous communication with fast secure quantum networks planned. So c as the max speed of information propagation is no longer really a thing. With enough repeater stations we’ll have near-instantaneous communication throughout the solar system, and maybe beyond.

        • B C Aeich

I have read of the “certainty” of this “tangled web of communication” too, but can you throw a link or two out that will take us to a few incontestable articles to read?

          • Dr. Urchin

            Ursin, R., Tiefenbacher, F., Schmitt-Manderbach, T., Weier, H., Scheidl, T., Lindenthal, M., … & Ömer, B. (2007). Entanglement-based quantum communication over 144 km. Nature physics, 3(7), 481.
            https://www.nature.com/articles/nphys629?cacheBust=1508214254328

In 2007, distances of 144 miles had already been achieved. But that was for single photon communication. Good proof of concept, but not really useful. More useful is the recent stuff. This second article is for shorter distances (20 km) but a much larger flow of information:
            u, X., Li, Q., Westly, D. A., Moille, G., Singh, A., Anant, V., & Srinivasan, K. (2019). Chip-integrated visible–telecom entangled photon pair source for quantum communication. Nature Physics, 1.
            https://www.nature.com/articles/s41567-018-0394-3

Getting the volume of communication up has been the key. The actual distance it goes has no theoretical limit, because at the quantum level, distance loses its meaning, and it can be reasonably argued that all distances are the same for any two particles that are entangled.

        • John M.

Sounds like what Orson Scott Card was writing about in the later “Ender’s Series” books. Near-instant interstellar communication which eventually became near-instant interstellar travel, without all the messy inertial problems that plagued conventional space craft.

  • Bill G

Lead the Deplorables, or crush us? But I certainly enjoy the dream of that crowd in with Big Leroy, Macho Jose, and Bubba to liven up their nights.

    • WayneM

In their worldview, lead and crush are essentially the same thing. They’re the elites; we are fodder to be used, abused and discarded.

Mommas, don’t let your babies grow to be leftists.

I keep hearing the song “Moon River” playing in that last panel as it fades to black.

    • John M.

You mean the version where the singer’s voice suddenly pitches up an octave in the middle of ‘MOOooon”

The one incident that happened while I was a Correctional Officer, ended up being more like the “Squeal Piggy” scene in Deliverance…

  • kadaka

It’s of course a strange random coincidence that those two somewhat resemble the two major crimelords of Person of Interest, a show about the wanton excesses of the Deep State.

So when does Sam wake up from her coma and realize there are no amorphous infinitely-reconfigurable devices like Jo?

    • JTC

No Jo? Say it ain’t so, Jo.

      • kadaka

Whoa, don’t know bro. Gotta go.

    • Pamela

      So which one is Root

      • kadaka

Well Skye knew all the answers, treated those she didn’t like as bad code, and was great at sticking to The Plan and following orders from above no matter how badly she was treated. She seems to have gotten better.

      • interventor

        Which one is Groot?

  • Jim Smith

Since the essence of each of us human beings is “information” (and thus incorporeal, sometimes called “spirit” or “mind” or “sentience”), and in fact is related to quantum entanglement as theorized by Roger Penrose, the speed-of-light transportation limit which applies to physical things does not apply to us. Thus, if each human being is essentially “information”, and if information can exceed the speed of light through quantum entanglement (as noted by Kadaka above) then humans ultimately cannot be constrained by the C-speed limit. That means our incorporeal essence will ultimately spread throughout the universe as it speeds toward its destiny of universal consciousness and intelligence.

    • B C Aeich

“The Traveler” from, (?), Piers Anthony?

    • JTC

Speaking of “information”, a simple redneck boy can pick up a lot of interesting (if useless) bits of it around here. 🙂

  • John D. Egbert

Chris, from your pen to God’s ear . . .

  • Unca Walt

If we progress with quantum entanglement for the next 100 years anywhere near as much as we did with electricity in the last 100 years…

…we could travel light-millennia in an instant by thinking about it.

Climate Oops: National Park Begins Subtle Removal of “Gone by 2020” Signs After Glaciers Just Keep Not Being Gone

“Teams from Lysander Spooner University visiting the Park each September have noted that GNP’s most famous glaciers such as the Grinnell Glacier and the Jackson Glacier appear to have been growing—not shrinking—since about 2010. (The Jackson Glacier—easily seen from the Going-To-The-Sun Highway—may have grown as much as 25% or more over the past decade.)”

I would not follow the “ elites “ into a bar!

    • MasterDiver

I would. But only to maintain close surveillance!

      Zar Belk!

    • interventor

      Typically, they follow me!

  • kadaka

Got a desperate call from the Red Cross the other day, need donors now. At the bloodmobile now. The volunteers are all “Wear Orange” w/ “Moms Demand Action” shirts and propaganda stations, w/ talking points sheets by the intake workers.

I am so close to walking out NOW. So help me if this goes on the news as a successful op for those gun banning Bloomberg drones I might NEVER give again!

    • Precision270

Like politics, you get the representation you deserve. If the RED cross wants to be RED, then they can work with liberal blood or work on converting their own liberal tears to blood when they figure out how stingy the average lib is.

    • Toxic Deplorable B Woodman

They’ve eventually stopped contacting me for blood donations. I kept telling them, too much time overseas. Your rules, your consequences. BTW, have you been working on a test to detect Mad Cow, CJD, or Wasting Disease prions? No?

      • interventor

Same here! I ate beef from US commissary in West Germany in late 1980, so can’t contribute blood. Never mind that all that beef came from Denmark.

Second GOP State Senator Discovered Shot To Death In 2 Days

Police reportedly found Nichols, 53, dead by a gunshot wound in Norman, Oklahoma, Wednesday night. His death comes two days after police reportedly discovered former Arkansas Republican state Sen. Linda Collins-Smith dead from a gunshot wound and wrapped in some kind of blanket.

    • Toxic Deplorable B Woodman

W-T-F! Has someone started “Unintended Consequences” (John Ross) early?

    • Pamela

Sounds like someone is taking out witnesses.

  • Pamela

    Is Sam pregnant again….
