Ah … those Sons of Liberty. They put the hooters in those colonial shooters. And shooters are who took out the redcoats.

A man’s gotta have something worth fighting for …

I read somewhere that during the War for States’ Rights, the Confederacy collected “night soil” and processed it to recover the nitrates necessary to make saltpeter.

Not sure about its effect on urges, but it does preserve the meat. 😉

But more probably they were trying to fortify their gunpowder.

Plenty of powder in the hands of the rebels this go ’round though.

“Saltpeter farming” (artificial nitrate beds) were common throughout Europe during the blackpowder era. Only the British Empire did not resort to this, because they had India as a source of “natural” saltpeter.

North and South both had to import saltpeter during the ACW; this was especially difficult for the south due to the blockade. When natural saltpeter sources (i.e., caves where bats had nested for centuries) in TN and AL began to play out, artificial beds were started in Columbia and Charlestown SC, Savannah and Augusta GA, Mobile and Selma AL, and Richmond VA. yes, human urine and you-know-what were extensively used for lixiviation of the earth.

Ya know I only have 150 rounds of 12 gage 00 buckshot at1425 fps out the barrel. But I think that will be enough to get an M-16 from the other side to use too. I know the rivers and Bayous around Bay County, Fla. petty well and they would have to come in and get me.

The problem is, when they come to ‘get you’, they’ll be coming in a helicopter with a thermal imager and a minigun or GAU-21 .50 firing 1200 rpm from well outside shotgun range.
That’s assuming they don’t just use rockets.
Don’t forget that ‘bama purged over a hundred generals to put ‘woke’ ones in their places and recruiting has leaned heavily toward those who’ll follow orders blindly and even believe that their own countrymen are the enemy.

True up to a point, but–as the Russkies and Ukes are now rediscovering–there’s only so far modern weaponry will carry you until you run out of ammo. Then it’s back to basics.

The NYT has isolated the problem…

“Black Chicagoans are nearly 40 times more likely to be shot to death than their white peers, according to an analysis by the University of Chicago Crime Lab.”

Oh wait, they forgot this part: “93% of Black Chicagoans who are shot are shot by other blacks, who are over 100 times more likely than whites to be the shooter. So let’s get whitey’s guns!

I done did the dirty deed. Twice. Let’s hope nothing gets kicked back due to bank (Credit Union) “decline transactions”.
But then again, with all the other semi-expensive questionable stuff I’ve been ordering and receiving lately, the CU had BETTER NOT decline this shift in funds.

Do we need to distinguish between “New Style” and “Old Style” dates at that point?

Not unless some fool was holding onto the old style (missing appointments and planting his crops late) twenty-some years after his rulers and neighbors switched in 1752.

Look up “Gregorian Calendar” in Wikipedia. There’s a table. Pope Gregory issued the “New Style” calendar in 1582, and most Catholic countries changed as fast as they could, while many Protestants resisted for a while just because it came from the Pope. Prussia was perhaps the first Protestant nation to give that up and adopt the New Style in 1610.

Great Britain and her colonies held out until 1752, and the last Protestant nation (Sweden including Finland) changed the next year. That left the Orthodox Christian countries – Russia didn’t change until 1918, after the Bolshevik takeover – and many countries following traditions outside of both Julius Caesar and Christianity, such as Japan and Turkey.

The Ottoman Turks traditionally followed an Islamic calendar completely unrelated to either the Julian or Gregorian calendars. They adopted just part of the Gregorian calendar (the months and days) during WWI so they could coordinate operations with Germany, but the AD (also called CE) count of years was only adopted by their successors in 1926. Finally, Saudi Arabia only changed six years ago!
