Well, in Toly’s defense, it does say “Don Portago” Shipping.

It does, and all the more reason it won’t be “gold bars”.

DP more than most would understand that as to value, they have none in most contexts including SHTF; fungibility is near zero to all but experienced/sophisticated investors/dealer…play hell getting the average citizen to pay or trade $13K for a ten-ouncer of what could well be painted lead.

As to values, DP is all about them of the “family” variety, and when it comes to what a family needs, gold bars are near the bottom of the list. Bullets, ‘bots, tools, maybe a hydrogen power generation station would all be great.

And if it is hard money, he would know that US “junk” silver coins and small increments of recognized gold (eagles, maples, etc) would be the useful kind to buy and barter for the necessities.

    Chris,

I haven’t noticed until today’s comic how long Jan’s hair is getting. Me likey!! Reminds me of a girlfriend I had in college who’s hair was that long. She spent over an hour every morning brushing it out. A lot of work, but she had beautiful hair as well — dishwater blonde, not brown. The relationship didn’t last too long — after the “new” wore off, she turned out to be a “beyotch”… and I told her to take a hike. But good memories… brought a smile to my face. Please don’t “cut” Jan’s hair.

    Thank you.

    Regards,
    Tom Stockton

Best not be gold bars. Worst thing ever for the DD Ranch. When word gets out (and it will), gold will attract every desparado, drug lord and pantyfa south AND north of the Pecos.

Ah, DBW, I think you mean the Rio Bravo (or Rio Grande) and not the Pecos. Rio Bravo is the international border. Pecos runs mostly north to south. Judge Roy Bean called himself “the Law West of the Pecos”.

Side note: out there in West Texas is the part of the state described as being “miles and miles and miles of nothing but miles and miles and miles”.

I remember the “miles and miles of nothing but miles and miles” from when I was stationed at Goodfellow AFB in San Angelo.

Being stationed at Minot AFB, ND was much the same with double-digit below-zero Winters tossed in for good measure!

Never was stationed at Minot, but worked with people who had been.

Why not Minot? Freezin’s the Reason

I hated dungarees. But they were a lot better than the polyester shrink wrap that they replaced. (The last thing you need in a shipboard fire us for your clothing to turn into a layer of molten plastic)

      Cotton based fabric RULES.

Weighs a ton? Belongs to Don Portago? A real tonne, or a figurative ‘ton’?

Well, I doubt seriously that Sr. Portago would send anything that could possibly compromise the denizens of the Double D.
