A society that runs completely on emotions leads to very dangerous outcomes. Logic and common sense must prevail.

      Don’t bet on it.

My mother was one of six sisters and one brother. Their father died when the youngest was still six months in the womb.

My mother was a thinker. Among other things that led her to a CPA, a sheriff’s deputy- and a Republican.

Two of her sisters build P-40s and SB2Cs at Curtiss-Wright during the Big One. A third was a translator for Ultra intercepts at the War Department. Two of them were GOP, the third, the youngest, a lifelong New Deal Democrat.

One more was childlike her entire life.

The other two spent their lives preaching hatred of men. Very loudly.

They and their mother got the brother ECT’d and finally frontally lobotomized in the 1930s. Being “A Man” he ipso facto could not be trusted. He too was childlike for life thereafter.

And yes, the ones responsible were also proud, lifelong New Deal Democrats. Who were sure Government Knew Best- as long as Government thought like them.

Facts, logic and common sense do not always win. Not when stupid, bigoted and crazy has the louder voice.

One of the ancient Greeks’ definitions for a barbarian was one who acted on his emotions instead of logic.

      Ironic, I know.

eon, digging a little into your past as previously revealed…

You speak only of the matriarchal influences; where were the patriarchs, hers and yours?

And while your Mother was a thinker of disciplines like math the logic and science of the horrible effects of a fatherless society seemed to escape her and had a terrible effect on you.

The females may have ruined all of their lives and yours, but they could not have done that had their been a strong father figure.

In the macro, that is Zed’s point exactly.

Well, as stated her father died when her youngest sister hadn’t even been born yet. He dropped dead of a heart attack in 1924 at the age of 36. Her mother apparently never forgave him for that.

My paternal grandfather was a railroad detective for the Baltimore & Ohio. One night in 1919 he was murdered in the railyard at Ravenswood WV; his head smashed in from behind with a chunk of 2×4. It’s been said that the main character of the Mackinlay Kantor short story “The Second Challenge” was based on him, as he carried a Colt New Service .45 revolver exactly the way the man in the story did.

My father, regrettably, wasn’t very good at the whole “father” business. He took more after his and his siblings’ mother, a shrewish woman prone to screaming fits and threatening people with sharp objects and the odd shotgun if one were at hand. Including me at age seven.

He died at age 66 when I was 13, after spending most of the preceding decade beating me nearly to death every time I was left alone with him. He had a grown son from a previous marriage and regarded me as an unwanted mistake. An opinion shared by my mother’s three Weird Sisters.

(It wasn’t personal with them; they regarded any male child that way. Only daughters mattered, in their opinion.)

I grew up in an environment where the wrong word or even exhibiting the wrong emotion could have catastrophic consequences. As such, I learned early on to keep my mouth shut and my opinions to myself.

Except online, hiding behind a pseudonym I created purely by accident, I still do.

“…but they could not have done that had there been a strong father figure.”

I will stand by that, and yet from that unspeakable adversity comes a brilliant mind and a pure heart from what I have seen. I know your history cost you dearly and still does as you say, but you have gone beyond surviving to others benefitting from that survival and knowledge developed in many ways, thank you. One final incredibly personal and intrusive question that comes from a real place; ignore if you please…have you developed a close relationship with someone special to you? That to me is a critical linchpin to (continued) survival.

        JTC;

No, I’ve never even dated. it wasn’t allowed, and as Jack L. Chalker said (The Identity Matrix), I never had the chance to learn.

        It’s a lack I feel every day.

        Thanks for asking.

Can’t imagine the pain, the physical yes, but far more the mental.

And that’s the thing…at least in terms of your personal self, “it *wasn’t* allowed”, and “stupid, bigoted and crazy *had* the louder voice.”

Past tense. It ain’t over. No need to settle.

I know there are physical issues and limitations, but that ain’t what’s holding you back now, it is that the past that you absorb like a sponge to understand the connection to the present when we talk of world history, but that is separate from personal history which has you missing the present, either by necessity or at this point maybe you tell yourself its by choice…but you indicate otherwise; “a lack I feel every day”.

I hate bars but VFW or a good cop hangout are great and very welcoming places with a lot of good people with damaged histories, goblins, and self-images. Hitting up a few might lead to a kindred soul or two, even if its just for talk, and if it leads to rejection could it be worse than now?

Let the souls of those who tormented you now be tormented themselves in perpetuity; no matter where you go from here, you will not have to deal with them in the hereafter, there are only other good souls where you are going. Anonymity has its place, like here. But the real world requires a real self and real effort to effect a change of direction…if one is wanted.

    Good questions.
I feel like reproducing now. That is pursuit of pleasure that actually should entail tremendous responsibility.

Now what world view was that being discussed?
Wars have often been started by men. The gender benders advocates and examples of polymorphous pansexuality that carry so much power in our nation have their hand in recent ones. Especially several in Ukraine. Insanity. 2014 coup. previous. The war and crime against humanity and genocide continuing today.

The United States Government spent Big money to defeat the following NATO ally in his most recent victory for Prime Minister. (So why wouldn’t they do the same to defeat someone here in 2020 and 2024? My mother taught me similar principles as he states back when I was a child.
He says a lot. An interview with the leader of an 1100-year-old nation. This is my tribe.

In my genealogical and social vicinity the number of non-thinkers – let’s call them what they are: reactionaries – is pretty evenly divided between the 27 genders. Likewise, those happy few who’ve managed to lift themselves from Woke to Awake.

But perhaps Candace Owens, Eva Vlaardingerbroek, Lara Logan and Emerald Robinson are only exceptions that prove the rule…? Nonetheless, both sides of Mia’s argument are persuasive : )

Not all of us. My father was a Navy medical officer and he had a big influence on me, growing up. I learned to think things through before embarking on any project. I went into nursing, and did not become a screeching liberal like so many do.

That said, I do fear for the future of my country. There are far too many non-thinkers, both male and female. Note: I do not include the 726 other genders, because they are totally imaginary.

As The 300 pointed out the Ancient Greeks had a low opinion of of those who thought in terms of emotions rather than reason.
But with rare exceptions, male or female, reason is the product of education, it isn’t “natural”.
The reason emotions win out so often these days is only partially sexual. The fact is, in order for reason to win out emotions must prove to be inadequate for an individual and rational discourse must be a known alternative.
There are two major factors that plague us today in this regard, one is that life has become too easy. People simply don’t pay the personal real price of living stupidly. A second is related to the first. Socialism, the promise that we can have Heaven-on-Earth if we elevate Government to the status of God. Those who want Power are leading the charge and go to great lengths to entice that Stupidity and the female of our species is particularly susceptible to the Opiate of Socialism.

Speaking of “males” hiding behind skirts, this ought to be good for a month or three hiding in the basement…no pressies, no interviews, no nothing. Probably a good thing on balance but I will miss the entertainment factor.

In spite of the number of commenters affirming that we are not ruled by our emotions, the loud voiced screamers are directing this country as noted in their influence in most all media and in our house of 526 congress weasels along with whoever is running the white house clown shop. Well maybe only 490-500 weasels.
