Barbi 8-ball again???
“All the great things are simple, and many can be expressed in a single word: freedom, justice, honor, duty, mercy, hope.” ~Sir Winston Churchill
All three houses……?
White House is the third house 🙂
Yeah I gotta correct that to branches
Seemed obvious enough to me that the White House is the third house; remember this is a casual discussion among friends, not a civics classroom.
Yer right, fuck it.
You’d better be using some kind of protection… 😉
From the raw language or the free political discourse? Either way his protection is 1A, which is in turn guaranteed by 2A.
JT~ I’m thinking more along the lines of a foil packet that can be carried in a wallet for emergency usage.
Oh Please Chris! I do not need another site that has to be correct and no irreverence on the loose. Keep it free!
There is too much ‘must be correct’.
Ditto. 2 houses, 3 branches.
And now a 4th estate that’s become a fully functional fifth column.
And of course, the concept of “honor” is foreign to a politician.
Unlike the Army motto, “Duty, Honor, Country”, and the NCO creed, “No one is more professional than I……..”
((I am twenty years retired from the Army, and there are still days that I miss “the life”. sigh……..))
Makes me wish we lived in the society of Robert Heinlein’s “Starship Trooper”. You only get to vote or hold elected office if you’ve been honorably (there’s that word again) discharged from service in the Earth’s Armed Forces. In the Armed Forces, you learn that there is a world out there larger than yourself, you are not the center of your own little selfish (non-Ayn-Rand definition) universe.
It would not get rid of all the baboons in Kongress (a group of baboons is a congress) but it would be a start.
I thought the Army motto was “Harder Than It Has To Be”?
And don’t forget that Heinlein’s ST universe also allowed voting if you went into “civil service”, with all that entails.
“One useless man is a Disgrace, two or three a Law Firm. and four or more a Congress!-John Adams, 1776.
(On missing “the life”, you and me both, Bro!)
DBW and GWB, thank you both for spending your working lives taking up the slack for those like me who did not serve in the military.
I meant DBW and MD of course. But thank you too GWB for the good that you do and have done, mil or civ.
TY and YW.
(Air Force myself. With a few years of that done with the Army. Then after duty years, a few years with the Navy, then back to the AF.)
Can’t hold a job?
*The Squid ducks* ///
When our lawmakers break the law, then there is no law — only a struggle for survival…
The French. Along with the Polish they have long discussed and acted on democracy, fairness, and honor.
Emir de Vattel. The Law of Nations.
I have used it as a source and read small parts of it. In its English translation, of course. I am not that classically educated. Ben Franklin had three 1775 printed copies in the original French (everyone spoke French back then! snooty look.), and always carried one copy with him. Youz don’ts always haf ta be smaht. jus have da smaht info available.
Then of course, de Tocqueville and his travels through America. He found honor across the nation. In the cities, not so much. He warned about when the corruption found in European cities would effect America when we had such cities as Europe.
Do we trust McConnell and Ryan?
No need to answer. It was a rhetorical question.
Interestingly I have been able to trust some of my avowed enemies in agreements, more so than some family, supposed friends, and erstwhile allies. Such has been among the evils of life.
Travis sees and appreciates. That is included among the good of life.
I completely did not finish the sentence that those three copies of The Law of Nations were available and in the meeting room, and consulted regularly, where the Constitutional Convention met and worked out the united States constitution.
Half right. The Poles do it, the French talk about it. But when push comes to shove, the French revert to authoritarianism, the more savage the better.
Unlike our revolution, theirs became a byword for butchery, with those who “made’ it not spared from the guillotine. the modern socialist philosophy of “Equality of outcome- except we get the good stuff because We Rule” had its beginning in the revolutionary caucus, along with the concept of “left” equaling self-styled friends of the little guy who are really psychopathic mass-murderers.
This was followed by Napoleon’, who tried (generally successfully) to conquer Europe and then tried (wholly ineptly) to run it, with his family as the local bosses. With the French 100% behind him, forming his army.
Followed by their attempt to create a European Union 150 years ahead of schedule. And latching on to a German/ Austrian idiot named Metternich to create the pattern for it. Resulting in the revolts of 1848, which of course began in Paris.
For an encore, they lost the Franco-Prussian War, followed by the Commune trying to create the world’s first Communist state (Yes, it was named after them) by the usual method- mass murder.
Let’s not even get into France’s misadventures in the 20th Century, except to say that they started by nearly losing one war, created the conditions to start the second one, folded when a certain Austrian corporal bluffed them, and ended up after several colonial cockups (Indochina, Algeria, etc.) recreating the monarchy sans the actual title, in the person of Le Grand Charles. Which wouldn’t have been so bad for them or Europe if not for the fact that his successors have been largely fools of “leftish pretensions and little practical ability, who are as arrogant as they are inept”.
Generally, if you want to know why something went pear-shaped in Europe, the answer is usually France. And now their latest Doofus Maximus is doing it again.
At what point does the rest of the world simply stop listening to them?
Note one difference between our revolution and theirs, Eon:
Theirs was a rebellion against their rulers.
Ours was mostly a breaking away. Americans had already long considered themselves the equals of those running England.
Yes, the fire of resentment makes for very ugly revolutions. It’s why the progressives strive so hard to build that sentiment here.
Not a frog fan huh eon?
Yeah, me neither.
But what does Trump have on them or what else is it that had them scrambling jets with ours in that three-pronged bombing in Syria?
The French did rather OK pretty much until Vattel wrote that book. Afterwards, not so much. Tocqueville must have been part of a remnant conceptual thread that survive the French revolution’s bloody purge.
western civilization has an introduced virus meant to destroy it.
Europe may need to call on the Poles to save it again. A united States of Poland sounds better than the United States of Europe that the European Commission is actively morphing the European Union into with a Muslim hijrah invasion used as the enforcers.
And the EU used to be a well intentioned and well perception management sold Common Market, with all of this already planned.
‘Camp of Saints’ fits Macron(i) and France well.
People have bad plans for the USA also.
Our being functionally independent from England until a king decided to squeeze money out of the colonies was a difference of importance. We thought that we were English back then.
When we decided we were too civilized to tar and feather the SOBs, we lost our hold on the country and an aristocratic class began to grow.
When we decided we were too civilized to hang a few of them now and again, it metastasized.
Hopefully this is the full URL. This leads to the full Thomas Jefferson quote from which we generally excerpt, “I hold it that a little revolution now an again is a good thing………”
Very succinctly phrased.
Oops, THIS is very succinctly phrased! Do-oh!
Mummified “Turtle Boy” Mitch, you want back of the throat? I’ll give you “back of the throat”. Where’s my rope? I got plenty of tall trees in my yard. And the rope is recyclable for the next politician. Win-win-win.
I believe Ryan was already giving Mitch “back of the throat”.
I do love the way Sam seems to always have strap of her dress that hangs down. Looks like a trend that’s spreading to Suzy Q, as well. Lovely view, front and rear…
The Republican party has totally lost my respect. I believe that they are beyond redemption at this point. Once again, they have squandered the mandate they were given to restore liberty. A third party will have to rise with massive popular support, enough to force the two parties currently in power to change the laws rigging elections in their favor, thereby maintaining the elitists’ privileged status. I hope and pray that it can be brought forward using democratic (note the small d) principles as outlined in our Constitution, rather than bloodshed and insurrection. I imagine that it will have to happen on a state level before it can happen on a national level, in order to change state election laws.
We’ll have to repeal the 17th Amendment, first.
Repealing the 16th would strip a huge amount of DC’s power from it, too.
Mandate? I ain’t gave ’em my mandate. With very few exceptions any that I gave my vote to was due to a lesser evil than the alternative.
And I would submit that for all intents and purposes there now is a third party, call it the Deplorable Party if you wish, have to do something so the letter designation ain’t a D though.
But in addition to all of us defacto 3rd partiers, the dude we put in charge has maintained, to a greater or lesser degree and for better or for worse, the support of his designated R party.
That gives four years under the R for the traitors to expose themselves, the swamp to be drained, and the moles within the letter agencies to be rooted out.
Then the decision can be made…a new and strong 3rd party of Deplorables forged from the good patriots from inside and outside the existing one, or seizing the shell of the R party for a complete retrofit and overhaul, taking advantage of its critical mass.
If we stand back and observe the insanity that passes for politics and media as served up to the masses daily, and then realize that in spite of or because of all that, isis has been beat down, China has backed down, and the fat little loco noko kid is spealing like the pig he is. Meanwhile back at the ranch we’ve got a yuge tax cut, active and effective immigration action, Ocare has been neutered, and a feint response to recent blood dancing by gun grabbers that I think and NRA agrees is classic art of the deal feint.
Not bad. Two parties or three, Deplorables will be the constituency that decides that. And if Trump continues these successes eventually fake news and evil leftism can no longer conceal that the world is being made a better, safer place…America first.
Hopefully DT is willing and able to continue into a second term; if not we’ll have to find another bigmouthed hardassed rough as a cob thick skinned pure hearted wicked smart street hustler highly effective chief executive.
Of course 8-Ball has the deep, depressing, philosophical, inspirational, and always correct answer:
“Don’t count on it”.
Why is it the left strap that keeps falling down…
Symbolism is everything, Epador.
Ah! The Magic 8 Ball!
Q: “Can we trust Pyongyang?’
A: ‘Can you trust GOP?’
Don’t worry: it’s always about cash flow. Kim-boy is broke and his nuclear mountain test cave caved in, so he officially closed that testing site.
If it were possible, I’d say stop destroying old paper cash. Just bundle it up, lay a trail of small bags of it starting at each pol’s office door, and see who follows the trails. And when they get to their destination, lock the gates behind them. Afterwards, just throw food over the walls on a monthly basis.
What? Too easy on them?
Chris, please do not make Sam’s gorgeous ass any bigger. Just saying.
Now we know that those are Trump’s hands on the 8-ball and he is heeding its advice, at least publicly, thereby painting the fat kid into a corner of compliance. Smart.
Constantly amazed at CM’s insight and accurate portrayal and commentary. How’s he do that?
How? He’s psychic.
Let’s review the history of trusting totalitarian dictators:
In 1917, Lenin had promised “Peace, Land, and Bread.”
In July 1938, Hitler promised he would not invade Czechoslovakia.
1946-7, King Abdullah I of Jordan promised to the British he would not attack the Jewish State
c. 1949: Mao promised improved lifestyles, modernization, unity and equality.
1962: There are no nuclear ICBM missiles in Cuba -Nikita Khrushchev
1994: The Clinton administration negotiated a deal known as the Agreed Framework, in which North Korea promised to freeze and eventually dismantle its graphite-moderated reactors and related facilities
Bush, Obama & yada, yada & more yada.
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.
Not only “No” but “Hell No!”
Start a war, make it look like NK started & bomb them back into the Stone Age (along with Iran).
We can take the NoKo back to the stone age without nukes. They are that close
Brilliant, just bloody brilliant.
Corner Pocket for the win Alex.
