Guy has to learn that he is also teaching idiomatic English and culture to a very smart lover. I could explain plans, space, and “trade” concepts to my late wife, but I kept an eye pealed for that look that meant that I had crossed a “border”. An exchange of “technical” information must never imply a lack of common sense. Mia asked a direct question, but got a snarky and useless reply. Boy better listen and learn.

Like many have stated: There are 2 ways to go bankrupt.
You go bankrupt (broke) slowly, then all of a sudden you go bankrupt.

Woke is also the path to losing wars.
The Russians purged most all of the experienced military officers and non coms after WW1. The Russians then proceeded to lose most all of the early important battles in WW3.
Article recently about woke teaching in the Air Force Academy. It seemed like political commissars like in the CCCP were being trained.
There are still very many good people in the government and military.

One of the first things Russia ordered from the Brits after Germany attacked then in WW2 was gold braid for their generals uniforms.

Like comic time, comic logic and analogy can proceed at different rates and branches of existence with a kind of comic superposition of quantum states, sometimes even within the same panel where just opening a DBD tab on your browser and looking at today’s strip can collapse the comic wave function into a single time frame and logic gate state.

It’s referred to as Muirzinger’s Catch-22 comic thought experiment, eg, Is the fed agent who infiltrated Gunpowder alive or dead? It’s a neither/both condition until you actually look into a comic panel on a particular day and see the sniveling creep or his bodily remains.

      Or something like that.

In any case, I suppose one might coin the phrase “Get snark, Go dark,” eh?

(That was precisely my intention in parodying the Schroedinger’s Cat thought experiment with “Muirzinger’s Catch-22”)

I think Travis made an excellent response, although explaining an idiom with metaphor would likely require a detailed additional explanation. But I think he did the right thing, as too much information up front can often sap the attention span of the person who asked the question. If Mia is intrigued by the metaphor, then go with Phase 2 of the answer.

      Example from my life:
“How do you draw pictures that look like they’re 3D”?
Ok, first you start with the concept of perspective; things that are far away appear smaller, which implies a diminishing focal spot we call the vanishing point, then visualize a series of lines converging on that point, and then you draw the lateral vertical lines at right angles to the horizontal plane of that vanishing point at the appropriate heights to denote their distance from you, and then ,,,
      “Bored now.”

DEI “professionals” are precisely equivalent to Soviet “Political Officers.” Never forget this.

He could be more direct but a little more time watching the parade pass by will tell her all she needs to know about wokeness, and some about the ensuring brokeness.

Wish there was a lot more accountability like that though; the various woke ones are so protected by the leftist infotainment machine that we have to wait for them to feel the repercussions.

No such lag for those of us who have been awakened, and when it is an entity of some repute the response and the cancelling and the killing is almost immediate…ask our friends The Pillow Guy, The Goya Guy…and of course our badass in the toon world Scott Adams. They have suffered greatly, given up almost everything to stick to their convictions.

    • March 27, 2023 at 12:46 am

…ensuing brokeness… Damn spell thing thinks it knows my words better than me.

And the trolls, zombies, gremlins, Frankfurt School types, Chinese minions, invasion supporters, Coup members, radical leftists, radical Democrats, economy destroyers, reset makers, Davos men and women, Fabian Society socialists, polymorphous pansexuals, invaders, Democrats, greed devoted party, and then some really bad dudes have grabbed hold of the wheel of the nation and through some of their evil intent or by sheer planned incompetence they will run the nation into a destructive and very damaging ditch.

    Unless… more chapters being written.

Many find their chains comforting, while many others don’t notice the chains because of all the other comforts supplied by today’s society. But the left is slowly, or sometimes not-too-slowly, taking those comforts away. Using the excuse of their fantasized Climate Apocalypse we are seeing today’s living conditions deteriorating. Will our self-appointed Clerisy, the wanna-be Nomenklatura, go too far, too fast and get overset?

    • March 27, 2023 at 8:44 am

It’s called “victory disease”, the belief that they are invincible. The Imperial Japanese Navy and Army felt that way in May and June of 1942, after the fall of the Philippines and Singapore.

Then came Coral Sea, Midway and Guadalcanal. From then on they were just delaying the inevitable and most of them, like Yamamoto, knew it.

Unfortunately, the highest echelon, such as Tojo, were still wrapped up in their belief in their own indomitable Will.

      I expect the same here.

So true. Yamamoto never wanted to hit Pearl, or any other U.S. installation; planned and carried same out under much duress and protest. At least Tojo took his advise against invading the U.S, West Coast. :. . . a rifle behind every blade of grass. . .” One wonders if the same would apply today.

Has anyone read Gen. Flynn’s book on 5G warfare?

    • March 27, 2023 at 11:17 am

No, but I did pick up an excellent definition of “Woke”.
Like the definition of “Woman” it has been pointedly ignored by the Left.

      “Woke” is algorithm induced psychosis.

Note that “Woke” is always a moving target. That’s why no one can actually pin it down in objective terms.
All we can do is apply Kentucky windage and lead the target.
In other words keep the word psychosis in mind.

Well, sailing down the highway heading to work, at a good rate of speed, early in the AM after partying all weekend; you can suddenly awaken when you feel the car in the rough median. Now some people will violently swerve back to the road. The results are usually not pretty. Others will carefully, and smoothly guide the car back on the road. It all depends on what you do when you are suddenly “woke”.

    • March 27, 2023 at 11:56 pm

Country roads around here, no medians, no rumble strips. You’re off the road when you feel your tires drop off the edge of the pavement.

Wife pops up from her slumber and announces “You’re off the road!” To which you say “Only the right side tires” as I roll along looking for a low spot in the pavement (or a high spot in the shoulder) to steer back on, rather than shredding the sidewalls.

Home Depot co-founder Bernie Marcus nailed it on the recent failure of the Silicon Valley Bank anchored with its concrete shoes of woke policies and culture heavily promoting DEI and ESG …

“These banks are badly run because everybody is focused on diversity and all of the woke issues and not concentrating on the one thing they should, which is shareholder returns,” Marcus said. “Instead of protecting the shareholders and their employees, they are more concerned about the social policies. And I think it’s probably a badly run bank.”
