Never crowd youngsters about their private affairs – sex especially. When they are growing up, they are nerve ends all over, and resent (quite properly) any invasion of their privacy. Oh, sure, they’ll make mistakes – but that’s their business, not yours. (You made your own mistakes, did you not?)

In order to stop being a child and start being an adult, one must take responsibility for one’s actions, and that starts with being able to make one’s own decisions. That requires practice and the thing about making one’s own decisions is that, for those decisions to be really be your own, you have to live with the consequences. For there to be consequences, some of those decisions have to be in error. Not all, mind you, but some. That teaches you to be careful and is part of learning to take, and give, advice.

As a parent, you cannot be there for every decision, nor do you want to be. Your job is not to decide everything for your child, it is to prepare them to make their own decisions. I think that if you do it right, then you can take on the role of a trusted advisor. You can help your children make fewer mistakes, but you have to understand that “fewer” does not equate to “none.”

It pains me to say this, but it seems as though the lass has a future in Demonrat politics. Note hoe she artfully evaded the simple yes/no by answering a question that wasn’t asked — and that evasively.

Ah, well, as Sir Winston so aptly observed: “A person who at age 18 is not a socialist has no heart; a person who by age 38 is still a socialist has no head.”

We generally used the term ‘attempt a render safe procedure’ when dealing with things that had their hateful switch thrown, rather than ‘defuze’…
You defuze when you’re breaking serviceable munitions down in the bomb dump or a weapons shop and if EOD’s involved, then chances are they aren’t 100% serviceable 😉

    And … what else?

Kiki’s response was rather Clintonian … kinda reminiscent of Slick Willie’s “I experimented with marijuana a time or two, and didn’t like it. I didn’t inhale and I didn’t try it again.”

I suppose it all depends on what the meaning “once” is.

Our place is 2 miles from the nearest paved road, maybe three cars a week drive by.
about ten years ago I had just gotten out of the shower and noticed through the window I had left the barn door open, which is right down by the road. I pulled ona pair of boots, grabbed my hat and walked the 200feet or so down to close it…was just heading back to the house when I heard a car coming from over the hill. Nowhere to duck out of sight, caught in the open. ..all I could do was tip my hat as they flew by.
Same car started driving by…slower…nearly everyday. Packed with local schoolgirls.
