A wall built?! Oh, goodie! Now we know just where to find them!
Walls may have been an adequate defense back in the Dark and Middle Ages. But now? With the proliferation and power of high power rifle rounds, home brew explosives and gasses. All walls do now is let US know where to find YOU, and helps keep the messes contained.

I believe he was talking about the other use for a wall, the one that involves a last cigarette and a blindfold.

What is all the ammo for? Besides home defense? Besides hunting?

Well, as the venerable Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers put it, “Grass will get you through times of no money better then money will get you through times of no grass.”
Substitute “ammo”, or “silver”, or any other durable hard goods asset for “grass”. Kapeesh, paisano? (emphatic gesture with one hand)

Spent a lot of years telling folks “silver” might substitute for “money” at some point in time, and helping them build their stash.

      That time draws nearer.

Like the Bourbons of France and the Romanovs of Russia – the Oligarchy knows We The People are coming for them with hemp rope in our hands… and there is not a damn thing they can do to stop the inevitable.

Unlike the Romanovs or the Bourbons, we don’t need to get close enough to use a rope. (or the tall blade) That’s what 2300 rounds of .223 are for!

    Just curious, Chris…

Why .223 and not 5.56 NATO?

There is a difference, you know.

You can shoot .223 in 5.56 but not the other way around. 5.56 would be the best bet just in case you are faced with problem where all you can get is 5.56,

Just get a .223 Wylde chambered barrel. then you can shoot both with no trouble.

Or a 5.56 chambered, which all of mine are. But I may have a Wylde… Not sure.

The Ranch is a BIG place so why not 7.62×51?

      REPLY
    • February 3, 2022 at 5:58 pm

I suspect that is due to my original suggestion for the punishment and how to value the work. That was on the basis as others have said, that .223 is fine for 5.56 chambers which I imagine is dominant there at the ranch, and that a high percentage will go to practice, with hotter factory 5.56 loads held back for other uses.

She lets that lovely Redneck Sass overload her lovely Redneck Ass, might need to follow up with hand-loading (no Maglula allowed) about 100 P-Mags at .02 per rd.

Lot of 223 reloading at .05 a pop to earn that much dough; kids fingers will be hamburger.

.223 & 5.56 NATO depends on the chamber in the firearm in question. I don’t recall the sniper’s preference. As I remember the ticket was for $160.00 and the reload penalty was a nickel per round. I’d guess that someone chose to hire an outside contractor. Hope they had good machinery,
good projectiles, and lots of brass from the same lot. If she is set for 7.62 NATO, I’ll pop for another ticket.

Actually, as I understand it, they both have the same internal and external dimensions. It’s just that 5.56 is loaded hotter. Guns chambered for 5.56 apparently have stronger/more robust chambers, and potentially longer throats.

See here: “https://www.americanfirearms.org/223-vs-5-56-a-comparison/” for an explanation. (Copy and paste everything between the quotations to a new browser.)

On the flip side, .308 Winchester rounds are hotter than 7.62×51. Otherwise, same round dimensionally.

My -10 is marked 7.62mm NATO, but the manufacturer recommended a particular .308 Win load. Probably not loaded to full SAAMI levels.

Not a Panther I hope… My first purchase was in 2009 before I really knew better. A DPMS .308. The only original part on it now is the lower receiver but the original barrel was stamped 7.62. I was ‘assured’ it was safe for .308 but… Barrel replacement was the first thing once I learned the difference.

7.62 and a good scoped bolt action lets you start the party from 4 blocks away. If you’re having to deal with anarchists at Rittenhouse range, you’ve done something terribly wrong, or stupid, or both! A few heavy subsonic bullets and a suppressor would have made those BLM riots a lot less fun for the participants!
