I think that Alejandro Villanueva of the Steelers was ‘teamed’ into his ‘take-back’. It is a team sport and after his long service in the Army, he doesn’t have the seasons left that the ‘youngsters’ have. Don’t know how I feel about last night’s game. While they did the ‘knee thing’, they were STANDING for the Anthem!

    Magnificent ‘toon.
    SO very, very true.
Maybe I’m a little slow, but I am no longer sure exactly why all these whiny bastards are kneeling?
    To protest police brutality?
    To whine about Trump?
    To show their social awareness?
    Because their teammates are?
    I mean WTF?

Sigh…farewell NFL, you had a good run, maybe your obituary will say:

“The once mighty National Football League, born of average Americans who loved a national sport and the opportunity to cheer on the warriors of their city every Sunday, died in 2017 after a long and painful death from a swelled sense of self-importance, a misguided notion of who their real supporters were, and an unceasing need to seem part of the Social Justice Warriors. They died when those average Americans changed the channel, burned their team jerseys, and decided to reclaim their Sunday afternoons with family time, service at their church, and reading a little cartoon called Day by Day 🙂 .

Sadly, those same Social Justice Warriors did not attend the funeral of this once mighty professional sports league as they moved on to maim and destroy other professional sports leagues filled with millionaire tattooed professional athletes/thugs who soon found out that they couldn’t do anything else but punt, pass, kick, or throw a ball, and soon found out that 10 minutes after they walked out of these now abandoned sports stadiums, no one gave a rat’s ass what their political opinions were, as they had been simply paid performers who were vastly overpaid to entertain people who no longer needed them.

The former team owners also mourned the loss of their once mighty franchises as cities no longer shelled out millions of taxpayer dollars to subsidize their teams, and these owners now found out they owned a huge empty amphitheater that was no longer wanted by their former customers.

Sadly, the real mourners, the fans who loved their once might and apolitical teams, experienced a genuine loss as once mighty teams succumbed to political correctness, a misguided notion of political protest, and the disdain of both players and owners. But they were able to move on with their lives and the mourning period will hopefully be both short and enlightening as these fans realize just how much the overpaid and entitled “professional athletes” who once demanded their allegiance and respect will now have to find some relevance from their former SJW allies who have now chose to ignore and leave them.”

Yup, that’s what I think it should say….goodbye professional sports….always remember the I told you so moment….you need fans to pay your bills, fans don’t need you for anything more than entertainment.

      The answer is “Yes”.

The owners jumped into it because it’s the “right thing” to do, and they don’t want to be bullied by the SJWs. Of course, pre-emptive capitulation is not a good look for an athletic organization.

The next time a commercial comes on where an athlete’s gumption and can-do attitude is used to sell a product, call and let that company know that their ad agency and marketing dept have sold them a bill of goods. Because you – and everyone you know – just can’t take seriously the idea of an athlete with gumption and can-do attitude when they’re all kneeling for the anthem.

    Too Tall

I guess this October the NFL will dispense with helmet so they can all wear their pink pussy hats.

Sam needs to take the VAG and tear up the logos on the turf and then turn the hogs and Tabasco lose to take a dump on the field during the pre-game warm-ups BEFORE the National Anthem.

Two words for Alejandro Villanueva from his REAL teammates:

    RANGER UP!

To those that kneel to protest what ever the flavored cause of the day is, and not in prayer to the Almighty, you can’t be trusted. You are not the kind of person I would want on over watch or guarding my six.

Grunt GI ~ That’d a really fine Obit. When someone would say take a knee, it was for last minute instructions or for prayer. Now, the meaning of take a knee has been co-opted and leaves a feeling that something unsavory has happened, or being unclean.

I would like to tell you about some standing. It was at an Auburn football game about 3 years ago. It was Military Appreciation Day. During the opening ceremonies, amidst the Blackhawk flyover and the band playing, out trots an old man followed by an honor guard. He stands at attention, equal to any done on the plains at West Point, while the PA system announces who he is. “Today we are honoring Lt. General Harold Moore.” Everybody rose and started to clap, being the engineering type I hit the chronograph buttons on my Seiko. That standing O lasted for well over 6 minutes.

I’m sure that everyone has seen the movie of the battle of Ia Drang Valley. After the action, then Lt Colonel Moore would be awarded the DSC for his gallantry and heroism. He led from the front and to quote Sgt Maj Basil Plumley “You sir are no pussy.”

Auburn went on to win that day, though it would be a “rebuilding year.” The thing is the people in fly over land know honor and duty and country. These people, members of the great unwashed, who do most of the living and dying in this country, don’t need a bunch of whiny millionaires protesting the Anthem, the flag or the country. Lt, General Moore passed this past February. I wonder what he would of made of the current shenanigans. I think I know what the Sgt Maj would have said.

“Professional” football is a game played for the entertainment of the viewers.

At the end of the day, all they produce is emotions.

Obviously the entertainers have bought into the myth that the game is something more than entertainment and they are somehow “role models” that should “take a stand” on idiotic issues that have nothing to do with the entertainment of their fans.

Drawing a hard racial line that places the blacks in opposition to patriotism and whites on the side of patriotism is possibly the most idiotic thing a bunch of overpaid (black) entertainers could possibly do. Destroying their own myth that football is something (anything) more than the crass entertainment it actually is.

The truth is that people want to be entertained and that desire will never go away. The problem the NFL players and owners have is they’ve forgotten just how easy it would be to be put out of business by competitors who do a better job of entertaining the masses.

The NFL would be permanently sunk if we had a “reality” series about teams of private contractors who fight against global jihad. Why watch idiots play a game when you can watch real blood being spilled over an issue that actually matters?

My wife and I were discussing the NFL’s capitulation, LeBron’s lecture, of Trump, whitefolks, etc. etc., and she says, “You know what the irony is? ‘MEN STAND FOR FREEDOM; SLAVES KNEEL BEFORE IT’

Google doesn’t bring up that exact quote, meaning that text and context is original to DBD and Chris Muir? Trump needs to see that. He may consider it too incendiary and not tweet it out, but he has not shied away from harsh truth before so you never know. Byoootiful.

In any case, it is worthy of being preserved as a Famous Patriot quotation.

    A famous patriot like Zed/Muir.

    Tunadavis

The thing is, is that these protests (and Sunday’s was more against Trump than the original issue) don’t do a damn thing to help. It’s like wearing a little pink ribbon- it only tells people “Look at me! I care!” They’d be better served to tutor kids in reading in the inner city, coach minority kids at a rec-center, speak out against the lack of fathers and promiscuity, admit that there are far more black on black murders than police shootings, where the majority were violent, aggressive, and not following the orders of the police. Kneeling during the anthem pisses people off and is divisive, no matter whether or not that’s the intent. “Solidarity for people who have no voice?” Solidarity is crap- do something about it.

So the irony 🙂 was not lost on me about a bunch of millennial tattooed minority thugs (70% of the NFL is black versus about 13-14% of the US population) expecting me to buy into their political “awareness” when their sole activity in life has been to catch a ball.

Their pampered “celebrity” assess have never stood a watch, done an o-dark-thirty preflight, or had to give up holidays and weekends floating around in the Persian Gulf.

So exactly what do these pampered poodles have to teach me about duty, honor, courage, or service? NOT A DAMN THING.

Thanks for the replies. I spent last weekend at my alma mater, the US Naval Academy, celebrating my class 30th reunion. I learned our class has 11 Admirals, 2 astronauts, and a Navy Cross winner. AND we all definitely STOOD for the National Anthem, because we were raised right and truly know what service and sacrifice means.

SO SO SAD that the one man who almost had some courage yesterday, caved under the pressure of his whiny ass teammates and coach.

SO Fuck ’em….I got an entire library to read on Sunday afternoons.

After I read DBD, of course.

ANNNNNNNNNNNNNDDD as far as pussy hats…the only way I want to see those damn things is if Sam and the girls are wearing them….and just a smile…and serving beers and BBQ . That would be an awesome poster for next year’s fund raiser…”REAL WOMEN DON’T NEED PUSSY HATS, THEY HAVE THE REAL THING”

GruntGI, you definitely were “raised right.” I’m reminded of a quote from the 1973 Forrestal Lecture, by one of my favorite authors – who was an alumnus of your alma mater:

“What you learn here is a tradition of service. Your most important classroom is Memorial Hall. Your most important lesson is the way you feel inside when you walk up those steps and see that shot-torn flag framed in the arch of the door: ‘Don’t Give Up the Ship.’

If you feel nothing, you don’t belong here. But if it gives you goose-flesh just to see that old battle flag, then you are going to find that feeling increasing every time you return here over the years … until it reaches a crescendo the day you return and read the list of your own honored dead — classmates, shipmates, friends — read them with grief and pride while you try to keep your tears silent.”

Eh, I give exactly zero fucks what some entitled multimillionaire athletes do or “think.”

That being said, the reaction to them on the conservative side disturbs me deeply – especially having grown up as a conservative in the 1970s and 1980s and seeing how horribly the conservative view has shifted. Back then, we used to be horrified and derisive of the mandatory displays of loyalty demanded by repressive regimes like the USSR, North Korea, China, etc. It saddens me to no end to see conservatives flat out demanding them now – one of many reasons I no longer consider myself of conservative or Republican. I have many friends who grew up in these countries that are deeply disturbed to see the sentiment taking roots here. To steal a notion from Ronald Reagan: “I didn’t leave the Republican Party (and the conservative movement). The Republican Party (and the conservative movement) left me.”

    • September 26, 2017 at 12:03 pm
      GruntGI

Well, I make no demands that they stand, I think it’s disrespectful that they don’t and it sure as hell doesn’t advance their “cause”..at least with me…and the rest of us have the right to express our opinion by no longer buying their product.

Liberals love to organize boycotts of companies they don’t like…now the shoe is on the other foot. Pro athletes are welcome to protest all they want. They will simply do it to empty stadiums.

As the saying goes…you have your right to express your opinion, and I have the right to express mine. But if you are trying to sell me a product and then insult me, I am less likely to buy it. I call that the Dixie Chicks rule….entertainers should follow it.

So this is my general impression of how liberals view free speech:
2001-2009: The 1st Amendment protects everyone’s free speech. Dissent is the highest form of patriotism.

2009-2017: WHAT! You racist, homophobic, xenophobic Tea Partiers just hate your country don’t you?

2017-2021: The 1st Amendment protects everyone’s free speech. Dissent is the highest form of patriotism.

“We can not escape history.” Abraham Lincoln

    • September 26, 2017 at 12:36 pm

Erik, it’s not about us demanding them to stand but about them demanding that we don’t…don’t think they’re demanding that? Consider Little Al V. and wonder just how many kneeled out of personal conviction and how many kneeled out of self preservation.

Being Hoosier born (My Father went to Purdue and my Mother went to Indiana – y9u can guess what basketball season was like for me growing up), I have always had a spot for college basketball. Since 1967, I have been a Bengals fan (my family was in Loveland Ohio when I joined the USAF). However, I guess I am going to focus exclusively on college basketball from now on.

I got shot at to give them the right to protest, and I do not want to deny them that right; but, I take these continuing protests against America as a personal insult. I put my life on the line for them and, except for a tiny minority, they have not done similar for me.
