What we should have been doing all along is developing Thorium reactors that can dispose of the transuranic nuclear waste we’ve accumulated. Not only can we reduce what’s in storage at reactor sites but we can at long last “burn” all that junk we accumulated during the Cold War nuclear bomb production.
I’d propose an R&D facility in Idaho to develop those new reactors, dispose of stuff we’ve already accumulated, use our newly developed laser technology to nudge space junk out of orbit, and churn out Bitcoin to take up the slack.
