That is 100% cool, Mr. Muir.

I’m still down for my extra 50 on Sunday though; the battle must continue. Not to mention the boobs and the butts, not necessarily in that order. 🙂

Congrats my Deplorable brothers and sisters, on a job well done!

Looking forward to Sunday and the year ahead for all these wonderful creations of Chris Muir. Should be eventful, especially with the “stork deliveries!” How many and to whom seems yet to be decided.

Would like to remind all that the 20th to 22nd of July is the anniversary of Apollo 11 on the Moon and that next year, 2019, will mark the FIFTIETH Anniversary! This achievement HAS to be history’s greatest example of peaceful use of military hardware. Long past due for a return to both the achievements AND the optimistic & positive mindsets that made that ‘STEP!”

Not to be a wet blanket, but remember that Bill Clinton thought Woodstock, going on in a cow pasture in upstate New York while Armstrong, Aldrin and Collins accomplished their amazing mission, was the “defining moment” of “his” generation.

      Sex? Check.

      Drugs? Check?

      Rock and roll? Maybe.

49 years later, our enlightened elite ‘ are still stuck in that cow pasture and want us stuck there under them. So they don’t have to step in the mud.

Never trust them. If you want to go back to the Moon and on to the Belt (screw Mars, there’s nothing there worth the effort), keep them out of positions of power.

        Disagree about Mars, my friend.
        Mars has atmo. And gravity.

So, all those hardworking belters could come on down to Mars for a break, and get some breeze and some horizon and walk around a bit (maybe even skate the canals when they freeze).

We’ll terraform Venus by bio-remediation long before we can walk on Mars unaided, and in the Belt at least you can make your own “gravity” to order. Terraforming Mars is a pipe-dream and a gawdawful waste of time, effort, and money. It’s a hobby, not a victory.

The Martian atmosphere is CO2. Not much use without major terraforming. And Mars has just enough G to be a colossal PITA for lofting anything.

By comparison, anything you want from minerals to water (frozen) and even noble gases (frozen) can be found in the Belt, and extracted using automated equipment.

The Moon, having 1/6G and no atmosphere to fool with, is much the same as the Belt, and in addition will most likely be the free port of the Solar System, just as Heinlein predicted.

Get a base on Luna, launch transports to the Belt from Lunar orbit, and bank the profits to pay for the next big thing.

If they get the “warp” system working, say hello to the rest of the Local Group in the next century. Alpha/Proxima might be as little as a month away real time, as opposed to six weeks time-dilation on board and six years real time at .7C as per Einstein.

Gravity and atmosphere are handicaps to space ops, not advantages. They only become useful if (1) the atmosphere is usable, (2) the G is tolerable (low can be as deadly long-term as high) and (3) you intend to colonize for generations to come.

There are apparently enough Earth type planets “out there” for future colonization that we can afford to ignore Mars. And there are no minerals on Mars we can’t get faster, cheaper, and with less risk from Luna or the Belt.

        cheers

Pondered and speculated on that at the Old Dead Blog almost a decade ago on the 40th anniversary…

I finally kicked in. Sorry it took me so long, but financial difficulties are what they are. Anyway, Trump was right about our Intelligence Agencies not being up to snuff. Just look at that bozo that is lying through his teeth in front of Congress. He is loyal to his “gang”, not this country!

Hey Chris… When are the delivery dates of the forthcoming bundles of joy?
My Dad use to say that the first one shows up whenever it wants.
    The rest take nine months.

Scott Adams, the creator of Dilbert, said that most people think they are 90% rational and 10% irrational, but that a trained hypnotist knows that it’s actually the inverse, which is what the hypnotist works with.
I’ve since come to the conclusion that when it comes to Trump Derangement Syndrome, 90% irrational is far too charitable an assessment.

IIRC, from the book “The Right Stuff) Johnson started strangling NASA via funding cuts and Tricky Dick put the final nail in the Lunar program.

Remember, the only reason we even went to the moon in the first place was to beat the Soviets – who (we found out years later) NEVER INTENDED TO GO TO THE MOON IN THE FIRST PLACE! You have to remember that the Soviet Union was really just a 3rd world nation with delusions of grandeur. Most of their greatest weapons/military hardware advances were mostly smoke and mirrors.

The cycle would go like this:

Step 1. The Soviets roll out some super Sierra Hotel weapons system (which in fact either didn’t work or didn’t work half so well as they claimed).

Step 2. The bigwigs in the U.S. would freak and set the armed forces and industry to come up with a counter to the latest development which they would do
and which WOULD handily counter the fake threat from the Soviets’ semi-fake weapons system. (they actually had us believing that they had a working nuclear powered jet bomber)

Step 3: The Soviet bigwigs would freak and set THEIR military-industrial complex to topping the U.S.’ latest rollout.

    rinse, repeat.

Basically we won the cold war because we actually COULD do what we said while the Soviets couldn’t! Bastards bankrupted themselves trying to look so bad nobody would dare attack them.

    Oh Yeah! Another year!
On the day, just barely, teenage brother and I were stuffing a frozen-up Chrysler Hemi that we got running again, into the ex-Chey 6 pickup truck open hole. Stopped long enough to watch History on the TV and went back to work.
    Why? Because we could.
Now, many just pay others to do the work; the few that can figure out what has to be done.
