I thought Jo tipped the scales at somewhere around 350 pounds. Or am I misremembering? A Harley has no problems hauling some of the more hefty bikers weighing that much, so why would there be a problem hauling a polymimetic alloy-bodied Jo weighing that much?

How do you get “vroom” out of “potato?”

All Jo has to do is grab the coil wire for a few seconds to get a good jolt of power.

For those that don’t “get it.”

Harley motors have long been described as making a “potato, potato, potato” sound when at low idle.

The bigger displacements are more of a lope, almost like an old hit and miss motor…”ka blub, ka blub ka blub”…

And make no mistake, the blast from full bore acceleration (as Jo is demonstrating here) of one or a pack of American Big Twins is something to be experienced, VROOM! indeed.

      • July 9, 2020 at 5:56 pm

Exactly so, thanks JTC. I was reading through to see if anyone else would make that comment first. Mine SCREAMS loudly when I crank her on. 103″ motor loves to sing on the road.

And I don’t have first hand experience on motorcycles… but in general coil voltage can easily be 20kV pulses to drive the spark plug.

If your not a bot it will knock the shit out of you. I’ve taken a 10kV pulse before… it ain’t no fun. (Be careful if your messing with a xenon bulb flash circuit.)

      REPLY
      • July 9, 2020 at 6:44 am

Yes, 20kV pulses, but not a lot of power there as the amperage is quite low. I doubt there would be enough to ‘recharge’ Jo rapidly.

      • July 9, 2020 at 8:50 am

1976-Accel racing coil, Dark Blue 1966 396 Chevelle SS, hands on bad plug wire and car engine hood…”OKAY! Turn it over!” I believe it was more than 24kV, but the memories of my youth are fading. I did wet my pants and my sticker pecked out…I do remember that.

Clothing-optional dirt-biking and ATV-ing is fairly common in the hotter portions of Kalifornistan. Chasing them is a waste of time, even in a 4×4 patrol unit. Hit the rollers, bump the siren a few times–most of the time they are Gonzo Moretti forthwith. A few do stop, though. Ah, youth is wasted on the young. And nudity is only “illegal” if someone complains–a peace officer’s “peace” cannot be disturbed when on duty. I never wrote any of them, and never had a complainant insist on a citizen’s arrest–which is the only way a cite would have happened. There is a small coterie of asshats and killjoys out there that live in a state of constant fear and apprehension that SOMEONE–SOMEWHERE–might be having a good time. And BY GOD, they are going to do something about it! I loathe them with depth and breadth.

Its good to see an LEO with the right attitude in a nation that prides itself on Liberty.
I understand that members of the profession will eventually see just about anything people will do, but it’s nice to know that they understand that everything not expressly forbidden is permissible.
Law enforcement elsewhere usually does not follow this principle and IMHO this contributes to a great deal of corruption. It grants way too much discretion to the Officer.

That’s Tucker back there…he joined the Rebel Pack with Jo. Normally the popo would lead the parade, but in this case he decided he should bring up the rear. 😉

Liking the biker method of crowd control, worked great in Bethel OH, and the mediots were shocked into an incoherent lying partisan babble…oh wait, that’s their normal…but still the pearl-clutching and virtuous outrage is hilarious. I was going to link one piece but you just gotta google Ohio Bikers BLM to see a page FULL of outraged headlines…you know why? Those bikers were there to prevent violence and destruction and to promote Back the Blue and 2A movements, all the things that the commies fear the most.

And they’re right about one thing when they talk about the danger to these sweet innocent protestors. This kind of biker group tends toward the older Harley riders, and it’s probably true among this group more than most of our age group…”Don’t fuck with the old guys…they will kill you.”

I was wondering just how the BLM riots would end (and I knew it would not end with the elections) but I think you pointed up just how.
The lawbreakers rely on Flash Mob tactics, but the same can be done by their opposition who until now have not organized except in the limited way you describe.
As time goes on the resistance to the Resistance will pressure them either to lash out and get jailed or make them crawl back under their rock. And the newly Organized will always be there waiting for them to crawl back out.

A great plan to have a loose affiliation in every area that are ready to ride on short notice, loud bikes and obvious 2A and Back the Blue symbols proudly displayed. BTW a good share of such groups would invariably include off-duty popo from a different jurisdiction…

And as he usually does in his off-hand throwaway manner Muir has inspired the movement with a badass modus operandi, its name Real Rebels and the logo (tits to the wind).

Love it. Let’s do it. Being in the higher-end pawn business for decades, I owned and rode several HD’s over the years including the subject of my J.A.P. reminisce from the other day (what did that knucklehead CuriosB call it, a bizarre drug-induced schizophrenic tirade…he did later apologize for it but not the bizarre part and I can’t argue that 🙂 ). Anyway don’t ride much anymore and my son’s abandoned Honda Shadow that lives in my garage will have to stand in as a lookalike Sportster…you can’t let a Harley sit for months and expect to hit the road reliably without spending $400 on a “service” job (bike ain’t the only thing that gets serviced at the HD dealership) but my fat ugly self in the “uniform” and with a back-strapped EBR should fit in okay. Might to more to quell the riots than tear gas and the other kind of chopper blast they tried.

      • July 9, 2020 at 6:05 pm

Now, I have a 2012 Heritage Softail Peacekeeper edition. I’ve been pulled over, and as soon as the cop saw my tank badge he winked and sent me on my way. As for that 750 Shadow? Get on the road. That is actually quite a sweet ride in and of itself.

      • July 9, 2020 at 11:01 pm

Nice bike…do be careful with the “blue virtue” signalling though, it can backfire sometimes. Just use judgement; not every popo is your friend.

I rode from when I was 8, Dad’s tire company’s old suicide-shift Servicar, he’d pop the clutch and brother and me would putter around the field in first until he would jump on and stop us. What a great Dad…times spent with him is why I love and spent my life with shootin’ irons too. 🙂

Then from ’65 on there was a cool old Vespa and a succession of great little Honda ricers…a 50cc Cub, an S90, a brand-new game-changing CB450 DOHC in candy red which was the mode of my post-high school/pre-marriage 5000 mile tour with my buddy who bought the matching bike in blue, couple of 17 year old idiots but many I’m glad I did it…that bike was such a pleasure to ride, a departure for Honda, their first serious motorcycle and harbinger of what was to come of the Japanese street bike invasion.

In the intervening years there must have been a dozen used short term riders from a CT70 Minitrail to a Kaw Mach III that would kill your ass quick, and a couple of Harley leakers…even a Harley 125cc two-stroke Rapido from their dark years under the Italians. There was a CL175, and then three or four motocrossers back when I caught the dirt bug and the euros still ruled that field, Husqvarna, Maico etc…the Japs were coming for them too and annihilated them in short order with lightweight high power bikes with dthree feet of shock absorbers completely obviating our training of taking a jump with power on, front wheel up, back wheel landing because now these twits could go two stories high, take a flip, and land sideways on the front tire softly like a cat…adios euro bikes. Then it was back to the streets with a CB360 and a ’76 CB550F (that thing was a rocket, but nothing like the crotch rockets the organ donors perform on now)

The only Harleys I actually owned was that quasi-Harley Rapido and an old-school Electra Glide that was restored to new by a friend (retired cop!) who promptly croaked when it was done and whose wife was sure I would buy it for a fair price which I did but it was half what he had spent on the resto, that’s just how that goes. But it was more of a trailer whore and I not into the show thing so I sold it five years later to another mutual friend for what I paid…I had only put 200 miles on it. No need for me to own a new-gen HD when all my buds (builders, gunnies, cops) were buying them because by the time HD got their shit together and the boomers like them and me who always wanted one finally had the 20K plus price of admission they also started coming into pawn; the nicer ones needed to be ridden a few miles a month I told the customers (which was nominally true) and they were fine with me taking their bike on a Sunday ride from time to time, so I got to enjoy some nice rides without the burden of ownership. One particular doofus was a Puerto Rican guy from New York who hit one big lick in a drug deal and spent the whole 50 large on a new Fat Boy Softail, stupid amounts of gold etc. until he was ratted out by his bud and went to jail for two years…during which that HD with 700 miles sat in an unheated NY garage. He moved down here when he got out thinking he would have no problem getting back in the game but that didn’t happen so the 60-day 5K pawn I gave him on thefbike became a 10K purchase when he couldn’t buy it back. Cheap price but remember it sitting and needing a full service plus very minor surface corrosion had set in on some of that overpriced but crap quality chrome that the dealer charged him an extra 2000 for…anal Harley dudes don’t like that so the money had to reflect that. It was the closest I actually came to keeping a nice new Harley, but I talked myself out of it and called a customer who was a metal roof contractor and had money falling out his ass in that post-Katrina era…he already had two high dollar HD’s but I lured him with a 12K cash deal. Nice quick turnover for me but more importantly it didn’t end up sitting in the garage and needing another one of those $400 Harley dealer lube jobs every time I wanted to take a ride, and with customer bikes at my disposal there was no need.

Umm, CuriousB? How’s that for a bizarre tangential tale? 🙂

For those with HD experience, and those who may have wondered. I’ve owned many, of various vintages. I’ve studied all the “new and improved” variations I’ve owned flatheads, panheads, shovelheads, evolutions(evos), and now a twincam. I am about to use the appropriate descriptive for the new M8. 8 valve evo panhead. I’ve test ridden it, and when I am clean on my mortgage on my twin cam I will own one.
