Saw Midway, yesterday. Only the second time I went to a theater this year. Overall, worth it. Aviation combat scenes are great.

Now where did I put that unopened collector’s edition boxed set of the first three movies after Lucas tweaked them? Stereo VHS, should be worth something.

Thought it was ” The Last Hype”.

Is Disney recapturing the energy from the ever increasing spin rate from poor Walt’s body? Uncle Walt would be very disappointed with what his life’s work has become. Tragic Hollywood!

Walt would be horrified. Along with being a staunch anti-communist, he put Tinkerbell in that fetching ultra-mini-skirt, neither of which would be allowed by the PC Police now running the company.

Disney hasn’t had a new idea since Walt died (1966). The Lion King was basically Bambi all over again. Their one pre-SW acquisition space SF epic, The Black Hole (1979), was pretty much a rehash of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (1954), which wasn’t very good to begin with.

(Of course, neither was the original novel. Sorry to state, but Jules Verne was not a particularly good writer. BTW, most modern editions of his novels, notably Hector Servadec aka The Career of a Comet aka Off on a Comet, are only about 75% to 80% of their original length, after the editors at British and American publishers in the 1870s to early 1900s deleted Verne’s repetitive and long anti-Semitic rants.)

Disney has been little more than a conglomerate that sticks its trademark on others’ work for a long time. Today, when they take over some “franchise” and alter it to “their own vision”, look out. the result is mostly their attempt to be more “woke” than anybody else, purely for PR purposes.

Also in the hope that the professional scolds of the enlightened ruling class will overlook the way the outfit is actually run. Which would probably make Harvey Weinstein and/or Hillary green with envy.

IMHO the Disney decline began in the 70s with the precipitous decline in the music and songwriting. There would never again be heard the magic of a “Someday My Prince Will Come” or a “When You Wish Upon A Star”. Not a single song from the last decades has matched the early soundtracks.

      • November 13, 2019 at 11:58 am

What was good and innocent about Disney was intentionally and systematically purged, replaced with another PR firm and money machine for communistic ideals.

The transformation of Mouse City which is just an hour away, is an example. The Night of Joy for Christian youth groups, gone…replaced with a huge celebration of various sex and gender classifications. The Christmas Parade, a beautiful spectacle that my wife, daughter, and grandkids loved to go to every year, radically changed to reflect “inclusiveness” of everything except you know, Christ.

I grew up in SoCal … my parents were LAPD detectives.

We would go to Disneyland at least twice a year … one weekend every October was promoted/reserved as LAPD or Police weekend for cops and their families.

When I graduated from high school in the early 80s we spent all night at Disneyland for Grad-Nite. I remember one of the live bands was one-hit wonder Tommy Tutone and his song “Jenny 867-5309.”

Back then, only boy-girl dancing was allowed on stages where they had live bands performing. Any homo/lesbian dancing couples were promptly thrown out of the park by Disney security, who were frequently moonlighting and/or retired Anaheim police officers.

I understand now that the Disney parks actively promote “Gay-Days” to draw in all of the sodomites … perhaps they even get head of the line privileges too.

Back in the day the park, studio and corporation reflected the late Walt Disney’s vision. The Disney family still had lots of influence over the organization back then. But that vision and control has waned to almost nil now and it’s become an ultra PC Frankenstein-like conglomerate with all sorts of different and incompatible body parts stitched together like a deformed monster … a modern day freak show.

New Bernie Sanders tweet, introducing the “Tax Excessive CEO Pay Act”, which kicks in at 50x worker pay and gets Progressively worse, because government should determine what management is worth:

If corporations can’t understand why it’s absurd to pay their CEOs more in a year than their workers will earn in a lifetime, then maybe this bill will help them figure it out.

Actually Zed is looking into the future and trying to figure out what distraction is needed to derail coverage of the IG report. Let’s so much to choose from. FF crazed gunman, nah its been done (pardon the pun) to death. How about a funeral, lets see RBG has a cold and the Jimmah had brain salad surgery. Naw too soon but WJC might fill the Bill. My money is on a shooting ar in the middle east. The Israelis are caught in th trap too so a little sideshow might be just enough. Still as it said in the Ol’ Woodpile report stay away from crowds.
