From the 60s anti Vietnam war poster, a child’s fist holding a brunch of flowers: “What If They Gave A War And Nobody Came?”

Should resurrect that poster and plaster it everywhere. Rub it in the Left’s faces. (There has to be an Alinsky Rule that would cover this)

Might try looking at the big picture and coming up with a plan. The Ukraine has pretty good reserves of natural gas as well as coal and oil. The Ukraine could gut Russia’s likely strangle hold on European fuel supplies. The babble about missiles and NATO are just theater to distract the peasants from the real prize. The Russian economy can hardly make anything “modern”. If they have Europe’s fuel sources, they will be wealthy enough to buy what they need to keep their herd quiet. The babble about missiles, NATO, and history is just like the bright LED spot and cats. Our cats were at least smart enough to look at me when the spot appeared.

Russia has lots of nucs and probably some 50 MTon nuclear torpedoes that would trash our, or anyone’s, coastal cities. They ain’t worried about some missiles in eastern Europe. They are worried about the money and power that the Ukraine can bring them. Heads up, Children.

Not to mention the gas reserves that were discovered in the Black Sea west of the Crimean peninsula in Ukraine’s maritime EEZ. By annexing Crimea, Russia extended its maritime EEZ to encompass about 80% of those reserves, reducing Ukraine’s ability to compete with Russia’s gas sales to Europe.

I cannot forecast to you the action of Russia. It is a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma. But perhaps there is a key. That key is Russian national interest.
        – Winston Churchill

Putin sees himself as much as the second coming of Ivan the Terrible or Peter the Great as he does Stalin or Khrushchev. His Russian Empire Reunion Tour has been running for far too long already, and the cost of canceling it is only going to go up.

I freely admit, the fact that Joe Biden, et al, have finally come around makes me ask questions. I can only assume the DC talking heads are too self-centered and historically illiterate to comprehend Putin’s actual motivations. They’re spooked by someone who stands up, calls his shot, and follows through. It’s not how the game is played on the Potomac.

Sometimes, the best way to find the truth is to keep an eye on known propaganda outlets like Russia Today. Anyone repeating more than 1-2 of their headlines should not be trusted for other information.

        Also, minor nitpick:
It’s not “the Ukraine.” That implies a smaller region of a larger whole, like “the Southeast” or “the Panhandle.”
It’s just “Ukraine.” Like Britain, Poland, Flarduh, or Texas.

If Ukraine could get its own gas, it would not have to beg or steal, long ago. At least, the new bosses would demand investment into this area from their new sugar daddy. Which could indeed work.
Fake missile crisis is (mostly) a way to distract the peasants from what started in Canada.

What happens when a self-anointed “ruling class” spends years demonizing its own citizens as racist, white supremacist, deplorable, insurrectionist Neanderthals bitterly clinging to their guns and their Bibles? What happens when the fools in charge censor dissent and throw their political enemies in prison? What happens when the political Establishment floods the country with illegal aliens while publicly wishing for the quick “extinction” of those proud to wave the red, white, and blue? Maybe when those same elitist snob-goblins start beating the drums of war, declare patriotic love of country acceptable once again, and call for deep sacrifices to be made in the interest of preserving freedom, the people most needed to pick up a rifle, fight, and sacrifice life and limb instead turn their backs on those who have relentlessly tormented them. Maybe America’s real protectors just walk away.

Right now, Congress and the White House seem vested in initiating World War III between Russia and the West, and a lot of America’s natural warriors couldn’t care less. Why is that? Could it be that our elected officials and their bureaucratic shock troops have spent so many decades betraying American citizens that now many American citizens could never justify dying for a cause supported by those same cretinous manipulators and bloodsucking lice? Could it be that Americans have no idea why they would rush onto foreign battlefields for the preservation of another nation’s freedoms when their own freedoms are under sustained attack here at home? Could it be that it makes little sense to get bloody out of a fervent devotion to country when that country’s leaders have spent years denigrating patriotism as nothing more than Nazism?

Here’s a thought for the champagne socialists controlling both political parties: should you want the American people to back your play against foreign enemies, perhaps you shouldn’t disparage them as enemies, too. Perhaps it is asinine to mock them daily, hunt them down as “domestic terrorists” for their political beliefs, and add nothing but misery to their lives. Perhaps constantly trying to start domestic race wars, inflating the costs of fuel and food, and sticking it to white men out of sheer petulance isn’t a winning strategy for building national unity and ferocious loyalty.

Maybe I’m wrong. Maybe the wars of the future will all be fought by politically correct, “detoxified,” androgynous know-nothings marching uniformly into battle because MSNBC, Google, and Teen Vogue tell them doing so will prove they are committed to fighting racism and global warming. Maybe that gender-confused pipsqueak huddled in a “safe space” because he/she/they/it is afraid of being “triggered” by words or the carnage of free speech is just what the U.S. military needs when going mano a mano against the Russians. I’m sure those pink pussy hat–wearing womynx are ready to jump out of a good airplane, parachute into chaos, and start slitting throats for good Ol’ Uncle Sam (or is it non-binary Auxnt Sam now?).

Where are all the climate change warriors when their country needs them? Come on, “gladiators,” get to it! Go find out what it’s like to fight something that’s fighting back. Let’s move, wokesters! Show the mean Russkies how dangerous you are with your ski masks, bike chains, and fondness for attacking people from behind. All that burning, looting, and murdering in cities across the USA over the last few years had to prepare Democrats’ wannabe soldiers for something, right?

Since the federal government has repeatedly taken a knee to prove its allegiance to Black Lives Matter and Antifa, now’s the chance for America’s leftist paramilitaries to prove that they can repay the feds, stand up, fight under fire, and repel a hostile force advancing with more than just hashtags and slogans. To the Americans who spend all day, every day trying to “cancel” other Americans for their beliefs, here’s your opportunity to put your keyboard warrior skills to the test. Cancel or be canceled looks a whole hell of a lot different in the real world, though — far from the protection of corrupt prosecutors, Democrat politicians, and a partisan FBI. Go with God, I mean Gaia, you Earth-worshiping primitives. Good luck!

What, no takers? All those vicious woke-charged tweets against “authoritarianism” constituted the vertebral limits of the left’s backbone? All of those digital diatribes against “fascism” represented the full extent of our Marxist vanguard’s heroics? Surely the journalist class — always eager to belch forth their valor and courage in the face of “mean tweets” — is just itching to jump into the fray for the sake of…I don’t know…Ukrainian diversity or some such rubbish.

No? Oh, my, well, then whom will the governing “elites” send into battle to die on their behalf? It can’t be the tens of millions of illegal aliens in the United States because their job is to cast votes for Democrats in “fraud-free” elections. It can’t be the public school teachers because they’re too exhausted from refusing to teach students for two years, taping masks on children, and spreading racism in the form of CRT. It can’t be the “social justice” crowd because they’re too busy fighting the cesspool of neo-Nazism flaring up at local school board meetings where parents don’t seem thrilled to have boys changing clothes in the same locker rooms as their daughters.

Oh, shucks — that means regular Americans who celebrate the Fourth of July will have to come to the rescue once again — you know, the ones who work, support their families, and pay taxes — even after the federal government spent the last two years destroying their savings; forcing them to say goodbye to their parents and grandparents from hospital hallways; and banning them from social media platforms for having opinions about the pandemic, the 2020 election, or America’s future.

How is it always the case that our governing class treats Americans who just want to be left alone with such disdain yet invariably depends upon their service and sacrifice when the seas get rough and the devil comes out to play? Why is it that the same privileged, corporate-owned and operated, vile Fourth Estate that smiles when the likes of Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama castigate ordinary Americans as “deplorable” always turns on a dime to rally patriotic Americans to fight in foreign lands at their behest? Why is it that Lindsey Graham and Mitch McConnell and Mitt Romney are always eager to call their own Republican voters “extremist” or “insurrectionist” or “ignorant” yet first in line to beg those same voters to defend their precious “principles” in their stead? How many different ways can politicians and the globalist cartel they actually serve demonstrate that they despise freedom-loving Americans before those Americans realize that giving the “last full measure of devotion” for those who hold them in contempt only serves to deprive the United States of its best while leaving us with its worst?

I have no sympathy for despotism in any form — whether it be Russian, Chinese, or Great Reset in nature. I do think American warriors should think long and hard, though, about fighting for freedom abroad when freedom is under attack here at home. I’m angry that the same members of Congress who have refused to stand up for the J6 political prisoners could turn around and urge those prisoners’ friends and families to head off to a potential war. If the political class want blood-and-guts Americans to do their bidding, the prima donnas running that class need to earn the privilege.

What do Congress and the White House look like without a united American people prepared to do battle? A few hundred powerless “leaders” without anyone to lead. No rights, no warriors.

Message to the powers that be on history; the United States sanctioned Germany and Japan prior to World War II. In both cases those sanctions failed. In both cases, the United States sent aid to the enemies of German and Japan. In both cases, the United States ended up going to war with Germany and Japan. Sanctions are great, aid is great but when the powers that be start talking about the United States NOT getting militarily involved…history says otherwise. In both cases, our military was unprepared for what happened. If we’re going to do something, we should go in with eyes wide open and come prepared to win and not just maintain. If we are not prepared for that maybe we should sit down and let the world go on without us. What do I want? At least a conversation without name calling and accusations that someone is a puppet of someone else. Conversations have been in short supply the last decade or so.

      ‘What was that?’

      ‘Myob!’

‘The same to you,’ retorted the Ambassador, his patience evaporating.

‘That’s precisely what I’m trying to do,’ insisted the prisoner, enigmatically. ‘Only you won’t let me do it.’

If I may make a suggestion, Your Excellency,’ but in Shelton, ‘allow me—’

‘I require no suggestions and I won’t allow you,’ said the Ambassador, somewhat out of temper. ‘I have had enough of all this stupid tomfoolery. I think we have landed at random in an area reserved for imbeciles. It would be as well to recognize the fact and get out of it with no more delay.’

‘Now you’re talking,’ approved Ginger Whiskers. ‘And the farther the better.’

‘We have no intention of leaving this planet, if that is what’s in your incomprehensible mind,’ asserted the Ambassador. He stamped a proprietory foot into the turf. ‘This is part of the Terran Empire. As such it is going to be recognized, charted and organized.’

‘Heah, heah!’ put in the senior civil servant who aspired to honours in elocution.

His Excellency threw a frown behind, went on, ‘We’ll move the ship to some other section where brains are brighter.’ He turned attention to the escort. ‘Let him go. Probably he is in a hurry to borrow a razor.’

They released their grips. Ginger Whiskers at once turned toward the distant farmer much as if he were a magnetized needle irresistibly drawn Zekeward. Without another word he set off at his original slovenly pace. Disappointment and disgust showed on the faces of Bidworthy and Gleed as they watched him depart.”

Number of things here. First, we signed an agreement with Ukraine that if they gave up their nukes we would guarantee their safety and sovereignty. So did England, Ireland and Russia. Do we keep our word? President Trump told Putin straight up that if he stepped foot into Ukraine, he’d bomb Moscow. Putin took him at his word, that’s how you deal with bullies and tyrants. Biden should have looked Putin in the eye and told him, in no uncertain terms, that an attack on Ukraine would be the equivalent of an attack on the USA. Yeah, right, like that had any chance of happening. What he got was “a small intrusion would be okay”. Green light for Putin.

So what does Putin want? Well we all know he wants to restore the old Soviet empire as much as possible. But there are a few other things that no one is talking about much,

Number one is that when when the USSR dissolved, Russia lost the capability of building and maintaining huge ships such as aircraft carriers when Ukraine broke away. Ukraine’s Dnieper river has three huge shipyards with that capability and Putin wants them. Russia hasn’t even been able to maintain their only aircraft carrier, the poor old, crappy Admiral Kutnezov.

Second, he wants their resources mineral, petroleum and farm land.

We can all see he doesn’t care about the people. The crap about Ukraine joining NATO and deNAZIfication was a lie and nonsense. A pretext of the sort which he’s used often before.

      THIS.
The US gave its word to defend Ukraine. The US proved itself untrustworthy in 2014, and is doing so again as we speak.
The deal itself may have been driven more by geopolitical pragmatism than good ideals, but it was the win that was available.

Conservatives have consistently lost ground to the Progressives for ~140 years, because of a difference in attitude about what constitutes a win. Conservatives look for a definitive and permanent solution, fix it and forget it. Progressives take the win that’s available, then use that small win as further advantage when they come back for more. Their primary tactic is literally in their name.

I don’t recall us promising to guarantee Gaddafi’s safety and security.

        Is Ukraine corrupt? Surely.

Is the Potato Head and his administration, along with all the other communists in our government, trying their damnedest to use this situation to distract us from the catastrophe they’ve created here? Absolutely. “Never let a crisis go to waste” is their motto.

Has Potato Head and associates been lining their pockets with dirty money out of Ukraine? Almost certainly.
Just as they’ve been lining their pockets with dirty money out of Russia, or has everyone forgotten about the Uranium deal? Or the dossier? And so many other instances.

AS someone else mentioned, Russia wants their empire back. They need money for that, and Ukraine’s resources can and will undercut the Russian economy. Russia want’s, and has wanted for hundreds of years, a good warm water port where they can ship year round easily. Not to mention a site for gas and oil pipelines to transfer onto tanker vessels.
Then there’s the naval assets issue…without an aircraft carrier you don’t project force. They need the Black Sea for this.

If this were North Korea being invaded by some middle of the road average nation with no well proven track record for despotism and expansionism I’d say, “Whatever. Who cares.”
But we’ve seen how the Russian State operates. Repeatedly. These are not the folks you want expanding their power and influence.

The track record of the US? Spotty. But we don’t tend to absorb those territories. And we don’t arrest people back home for simply protesting or speaking out against a war.
Russia does. That’s a good indicator right there.

There are no saints in this, and the worlds power brokers are all trying to figure out how to use this to their advantage, but at the base of it all is that Russia is simply trying to steal Ukraine by force.
Not a defensive preemptive strike for security*.
