Depends on what your definition of “respect” is!

Center of Balance and proper weight distribution is very important, nearly essential to Bernoulli’s Principle and the concept and Laws of Forward Thrust.

If R-200 doesn’t move. The airliner will never gain height or altitude to tuck its landing gear in.

Respect is relative. At least R200 isn’t being stowed in the cargo or luggage compartments.

Cost per pound be cheaper? Are you sure of that?
Besides, itsn’t that a private plane? Same cost. Likely easier to maintain balance with it in the cabin than in what little cargo space there is.

They’re treating the tech with respect. Not so much, the robots.

    M.E.T.A.L. B.U.T.T is how they spell R.E.S.P.E.C.T.

They respect his reality on the aircraft as others have pointed out.
He (anthropomorphize, am I?) is part of the equations.
How easily we accept new things.
Humans adapt. Do we get aliens next? Or holographic generated ones?
Ronny pointed it out once, and Independence Day exemplified the unity they could generate. After some disagreeableness first, of course.

The unity would last about 10 minutes until we had Joe and Mika proclaiming, “I for one welcome our new insect overlords.”

        (snicker). yes. they would.

Maybe their new insect overlords would eat their eyes, then their brains, delicacies both, live on air. It would be such an honor for those two. Really. And probably the most honest broadcast they ever would make.

Respect…when I watch Westworld I have to imagine how I would react to very life like robots that may have gained sentience. I like to think that I would treat them just like people and blow them away if they come at me with a gun (or whatever). If they have decided (programming or otherwise) to not be a immediate threat then I will look at them the same way. Of course, what if they didn’t look human? Hello R2D2.

      The Saturday Night Joke

The Origin of the White Wedding Dress
A son asked his mother the following question:

‘ Mom, why are wedding dresses white? ‘ The mother looks at her son and replies:

‘ Son, this shows your friends and relatives that your bride is pure.’

The son thanks his Mom and goes off to double-check this with his father.

‘ Dad why are wedding dresses white? ‘
The father looks at his son in surprise and says:

‘Son, all household appliances come in white.’

I always wondered why Star Wars featured so many robots that were obviously able to think and move so well, yet they never seemed to make them look like any live being. Might be projection of fear or result from robots having taken over due to not being able to tell them apart from the living.

I certainly hope robots are taught “respect” with regard to we mortals.

Big Engineer upstairs did a helluva job building and evolving us for general usefulness but ‘bots are special purpose or single purpose and real engineers for those have a religion called FFF…Form Follows Function. So real ‘bots tend to look like the ones working an assembly line or those dawgs there,

Humanoid appearance is more of an exercise or a novelty unless/until that becomes an integral and necessary component of purpose. (pervs are ahead of the game in this area). Now if there is some dark and nefarious purpose such as blending in with us anonymously or you know, replacing us, then I get it.

None of which is to say that AI is not closing in on us fast, and according to Hawking and Musk will eventually kill us off. That doesn’t have to be done by some human-looking evil scientist though, more likely a box in a bunker somewhere.

The evil scientist would be more cool though. And Ahnold there is pretty cool too just for fun./..but there’s no mechanical or technical reason that old Chrome Dome wouldn’t be just as advanced, or for that matter the dawgs and that’s where we get back to practical function; as guards their design is about perfect.

Replacing us is intended to be by mental virus programmed God designed bots. The Muslim software virus programmed bots for Western Civilization in Europe and Russia. Then the bots pincer here in the USA is the Marxist mental virus programmed Latin Americans and the Marxis mental virus bots like sociopath Obama brought in, added to the Asian boots of all stripes programmed to eliminate Western Civilization. I hope that we do not live in too interesting times.
Ah. To just have the skin job Cylons to have to deal with. Some of those were hot. Anthropomorphism should have some benefits. And maybe their winners will decide that they must secretly cultivate humanity so that mankind survives and prospers. SoSayWeAll!

A last comment; sex made the Internet what it is. Porn, access to prostitutes, etc. we are seeing all of this talk about sex robots. They look like women and Justin Bieber (but I repeat myself) and are becoming more advanced. Some day, probably pretty soon, they will be able to replicate the appearance of feelings if not the real thing (how can you tell?). So in 20 years you’ll have a young electronic girlfriend (or stud), who will never age, never be cranky for any reason (unless you want it), always available for ANYTHING, and will profess to love you. Do you get mad one day, take them out back and just shoot them for the thrill? You can always get another one. Maybe they’re not a sexbot but a nurse bot (some of us are getting old), a hot nurse bot but still primarily a nurse. What happens when you die? Does your perverted grandson inherit Suzy the nurse bot who will make her walk around serving beer to all his friends in the buff? We already have people arguing for the rights of animals, can machines be that far behind? No, not the desktop or the washer but machine designed to simulate human emotion. If the simulation is ingrained in the machine does that make it real? Battlestar Galactica, Cherry 2000, Ex Machina, and Humans are all asking the questions.
