I saw a video the other day of Hegseth benchpressing 3 plates per side. It’s difficult to see whether it was 45lb plates but I’m assuming that to be the case. If so, that’s a respectable 315lb bench. Booyah!!

Worse-than-slacker grand-children of the old revolutionaries. Disaffected, dismissive of engineering. Underproductive economy. Doctored reports can hide the truth only so long.
Would not want to play Xi’s hand.

When you get right down to it, we’ve *been* in a state of war with Iran ever since 1979; Trump and Hegseth are just finally *doing* something about it. The Mad Mullahs have been *long* overdue for a proper FAFO reckoning.
Granted, there’s always the non-zero probability that the next bunch in charge will be just as bad — but given the demographics of Iran, and their reactions on the street, I’m cautiously optimistic. According to some figures I’ve seen, even *now*, 40+ years after the Islamic takeover, only about 40% of the population actually professes to be Muslim — and it’s suspected that a good slice of that 40% are just *saying* that, and going through the motions, to keep the religious police off their backs, while practicing their traditional Zoroastrianism in private. Prior to the Mullahs, Iran was fairly secular and Westernized, especially by comparison to their neighbors; they could do a lot worse than return to a constitutional monarchy under Reza Pahlavi (though Palavi himself has said he’d prefer Iran to be a republic).
