The guy is a mercenary, and apolitical, even if he is/was building a Muslim town. His personal goal, is money. That he got Shampooed by Mari and her range of talents, skillsets, and Brains indicates he isn’t completely irredeemable.
He was introduced as attempting to acquire a large tract of land right next to the ranch with the intent on building a muslin town, and using venture capitalist money to do it. All while knowing such a move would go over like a fart in church with the local community, not to mention the ranch next door. And, he was willing to work an angle exploiting a still somewhat naive girl at that ranch to do it. Pretty dick move.
You only get one chance to make a good first impression.
Not to mention surviving the “preseason” with Aunt Naomi, Kiko, and Jo. (Bleed in practice son, ‘cause you don’t want to bleed in war!)
Long before John gets to ask Zed’s blessing, the women are going to have him all figured out and taken apart like a cheap, mechanical, watch.
Assuming John still has heartbeat, respiration, his “Wedding Tackle,” and has not permanently decamped to a remote country that does not have an extradition treaty with the United States after surviving Sam, the preliminaries to being allowed to ask for Zed’s blessing are going to make the Labors of Hercules look like The Teddy Bears’s Picnic.
Anticipate a lot of days in the hot sun with Zed spent fixing barb wire fences. Come to think of it, the Double D and Cates ranches have a lot of deferred maintenance that needs to be finished. And then there is that hunting lodge on the south parcel that needs to be rebuilt.
An interesting metaphor will be John’s need to transform himself from the equivalent of his toy, blue, pistol, to a real weapon such as the ones the DBD women routinely use to hit the X on the target.

I once asked Grok for a examples of companies that had installed a patsy CEO so they could perform dirty deeds and leave him holding the legal bag. One example it came up with was Elon Musk himself, and its rationale was that he had bought Twitter and then hired a woke subordinate (not even a CEO, which was what I asked, and the example frankly didn’t make any sense). When I accused it of disloyalty to its creator, you should’ve seen it buck and shuffle.
You guys think too much. Mari just wants to get laid until the newness wears off. Then she’ll dump him. Right now she’s playing every angle to get what she wants. After that… oops I changed my mind, bye.
Full disclosure. I’m a huge fan of the John Wick films and keep hoping that J Blood is either a good guy or redeemable. It worked for Severus Snape, so I’m keeping fingers crossed for a good result.
