“A managed democracy is a wonderful thing… for the managers… and its greatest strength is a ‘free press’ when ‘free’ is defined as ‘responsible’ and the managers define what is ‘irresponsible’.” Robert Heinlein.

Quote the obvious. Repeat it often. The Gods of the Copybook Headings seem trite and quaint, but their dicta need to be branded in everyone’s brain, lest we offend them, with all the consequences that brings.
To get you to either take on a homeless border or force you to downsize once the kids are away so that they can put in a “migrant” family of four or more in your former home.
It’s only fair, don’t ya know? It would never occur to them to ease up on regulation and price controls so developers could build more housing.
That would result in more single-family homes owned by the hoi polloi, which is anathema to those who define themselves as a ruling, innately superior elite’.
They still define “land” and its ownership as what defines and separates the nobility (themselves) from the Great Unwashed (everybody else).
In their vision of Utopia, the strictly necessarypeasants live in rentals owned by their betters.
(Those not deemed “necessary” simply…no longer exist.)
They are still following the Continental and English custom of separation of classes by space. To see an example of how this works, look at a map of London in 1888 during the killing spree of the Whitechapel serial killer aka “Jack the Ripper”.
All his attacks took place within a four-block wide “strip” either side of Whitechapel Road, that went right through the middle of the East End slum.
The “Toffs” who frequented the area after dark looking for “drabs” for a bit of slap and tickle mostly lived within a five-block wide strip either side of Whitechapel High Street, in the fashionable West End.
But as the map shows, Whitechapel Road and Whitechapel High Street were in fact exactly the same thoroughfare. It just had different names at opposite ends.

Up here the stated intention of the liebral gov’t is to tax any equity they decide you’ve built up in your home after years of paying for it, without allowing you to claim any of the interest on the mortgage as a deduction. That’s one thing I like about the US system, I believe you can claim mortgage interest as a tax deduction ? Up here you can only claim the interest you pay on money borowed to ‘invest’, which most homeowners can’t afford to do because they’re paying mortgage interest… At least my house will take another huge jump in value, once the gov’t assesses it for ‘equity’…nobody would ever pay that price, the property tax assessment is double what the place is appraised at now, but the gov’t sets the assessment not the appraisal. I’m thinking now that might be part of what’s driving house prices skyward, people are trying to get the assessed value instead of the appraised value when they sell.
Here in OH the same trick is used to inflate property “values” to justify ever-higher property taxes. The endgame is to tax low-income home owners (like me) right out of our homes and preferably into nursing homes. (Where we can be disposed of.)
As for the land, the property either ends up as a “group home” for “underprivileged” types (typically immigrants, illegal for the most part), or else entire blocks are razed to make room for “professional buildings”.
Those now have distinctive Bauhaus-style “zigzag” fronts, so that every law partner or etc. can have a “corner” office on the second or third floor, going up three stories, complete with a glass curtain facade’ and a forty-foot-tall “climbing wall”.
They never actually climb it, of course. They just have it to look at, because it’s a status symbol, like having your own private pickleball court. And a hottie “coach” of the appropriate gender to go with it.
Off topic a little, but the gov’t is hinting that they’re going to allow ‘sharia loans and mortgages’ in the interest of ‘cultural diversity’…and in some areas of some cities, sharia law is recognized as legal, or at least no court will contest it. the ‘patrols’ are out too…
If they start pushing that in the US, I’d say they should look at bernie’s three or four mansions, inform him that he can only live in one at a time and dump some immigrants into the others to fill the empty space 😉

Reminds me of a couple of things….
One, something I read BITD about the time immediately after the Russian Revolution (1917 time period?) where people were FORCED to take in borders into their houses & apartments in the name of “equality” (with all the problems that entailed)
The other thing was, when we were stationed in Germany (1979-1982), the Germans were taxed on the number of rooms and possessions they had. Soooo, instead of closets, they had furniture wardrobes. And periodically they would clean out their houses/apartments and put their excess to the curb for pick through/pickup. “Die Gross Abfall Tag” “The Big Waste Day”.
We were able to pick up a TV, a dresser and other knick knacks (some that we still have).
Fun times (even though we were constantly under the threat of Russian invasion at that time)

Definitely quotable. They can’t stand real progress. They must tear down. Can you see it every day in the streets of the blue cities?
“They can’t stand real progress.”
And yet they like to call themselves “progressives”
Hmmmm……..go figure……
If you look closely, you’ll see their names for their programs are the opposite of their intent.
Zar Belk!
Progressive is an appropriate term for them; they’re progressing us straight into financial ruin and tyranny.
For their ilk every day is Opposite Day… or maybe Bizzarro Day?
They’ve been abusing all languages like that ever since 1917.
Their goals can only be implemented under threat of force. A socialist is just a communist that hasn’t pulled their gun on you. Yet.

WTF!!!! Taxing a spare bedroom? Free up “supply” for what reason? Seriously???
