    I’d snail-mail them, but the USPS being what it is today, they’d probably come back with postage due.

    News to me, like much of the off-hand commentary here at DBD, that those two idiots seemingly single-handedly nixed the peace talks that were imminent, by encouraging that poser pos zelensky to make a big final splash…and ironically it might be his big final splash.

    Re: Pres. Trump and Ukraine, the Pres.
    is dumb like a fox; he has built up Putin
    to be a logical man who could not possibly
    want to kill hundreds of thousands of people;
    now when it seems like Putin does not care
    about the lives of even his own citizens
    Trump has the ability to act betrayed.

    Now that Pres. Trump has been publicly seen
    to see that Putin is evil (he always knew) he can
    arm Ukraine to the max.

    We gotta change the rules. If you vie for war, you go to the front lines for a tour. “And all the war freaks die off, leaving us alone.” Allman Brother’s Ain’t Wastin Time No More. When you are in the chaos, you learn. When you cause the chaos, you are re-elected.

      IIRC, Heinlein came up with a good way to do this. He pointed out that with modern communications one could have a national vote on going to war and tally the results within 24 hours or so; the vote being limited to those who were eligible for military service in said war. One ballot (physical) per person, serialized to that person, and would also serve as your draft notice if needed. Three options that one could choose: War. Peace. Abstain.
      If the measure passed, meaning the majority had chosen WAR, then those who had voted for the war would be the first drafted, as they were the ones who wanted it. After all those had been drafted the next group to be called up would be those who selected ABSTAIN. The last to go would be those who voted for PEACE.

        Sounds good on paper, until you’re being attacked without warning and your non-voting civilians are being killed off.
        How are they going to count a vote within 24 hours ? (which may be too late to respond anyway) when there are still votes from last November turning up ? and what happens when that voter’s list is padded by ‘draftees’ who had their names added by politically connected relatives and who would never see the outside of a deeply buried office and steady promotions in wartime so have nothing to lose and everything to gain?
        Nope, like it or not, this is why leaders are elected, to make these decisions. The problem is there aren’t many ‘leaders’ now that are capable of making any decision that doesn’t directly profit them in some manner, and the few that there are get overruled by ‘democracy’ mob rule. 51 people sending the other 49 to the front lines may be the definition of ‘democracy in action’ but not to the 49.

        To be fair, Heinlein lived back when we still knew how to run stuff like elections.

      Everything hinges on the midterms and more importantly, the primaries before those ‘elections’. Some very senior people need some very rude awakenings that scare the rest to their cores before anything gets fixed. The saying has to go from “the buck stops here” to “the buck STOPS”
