Thank you John for sponsoring Day by Day. Love the wordplay by Travis in the first two panels.

However, Zed’s probably got an easier fight against the illegals, The oddsmakers (and Mother Nature) have made the “tree rats” heavy favorites.

That’s odd. The term comes from England some three hundred or more years ago, and referred to cats, as I recall…

As I understand it, a number of Depression-era diners served stews that contained cat meat, a.k.a. “roof rabbit.”

Squirrels are formidable problem solvers and have long memories. Getting them to disengage is kinda like dealing with the religion of pieces – the best solution requires a permanent action.

My late, former father in law (a Cajun Hollywood Marine Graduate, circa 1940 who enlisted with his first cousin at the urging of their employer, a Marine Reserve officer named W.S. McIllheny of Avery Island, LA) used to take my oldest son down to the creek behind his house and teach 12 year old with a pellet gun….marksmanship….to this day, my son says “Garland squirrels make good eatin’ “…many a pot of squirrel gumbo cooked in his old MagnaLite gumbo pot.

CM, well played with Mr Guess’ last name.

And who else is going to talk war stories, except those who have BTDT. If Naomi were there, she’d be right there with the men.
If it wasn’t for those men fighting the wars that they’re tells stories about, you wouldn’t be in Texas to enjoy the life you’re currently living. I

I am hoping this signifies an improvement over the previous behavior where you post the same thing several times because it didn’t show up, and it still doesn’t show up.

Bad animal got loud on the front ramp today, early. After watching it by porch light for a good bit we decided to trap it later and leave it for the clean up crew a half mile from the house as is my habit. Squirrels do a good job cleaning up walnuts in the fall so they are on my side. We have found two illegals between the house and the mule barn…and their boss walking thru the top gate. Back to working on fencing later this morning. So glad to be in rural Tennessee rather than near the southern border.

“Squirrel” hunting is allowed year-round in Texas on private property with landowner permission.

Not in Grayson County. The only thing you can hunt with guns here is wild pigs. Any other hunting is bow and arrow only. I still hear lots of gunfire, though; probably people doing target shooting on their own land.

As for squirrels, I only see them in the tree line of our wind break. I like to watch them: born acrobats. They used to raid my bird feeder, but now they stay in the tree line. We have a old tom cat who runs the property and they avoid him.

Delays happen and won’t bother me much since it’s time for my semi-annual long drive between Texas and Canada’s east coast. I can do it in 4 long days (10hrs daily) or 5 moderate days (8 hrs daily). Either way, it’s a haul, especially with Mrs M, a dog and a cat.

Woot! Thanks for putting me in a Sunday strip! Yeah, I try to pick fights I might have some hope to win. With squirrels, would that mean being an optimist or just delusional? Maybe a bit of both (lol). Happy Easter!

Quarter sticks of Juicy Fruit chewing gum left at the base of trees will drastically reduce the population of squirrels.

Also effective against voles, but you have to drop it in the openings of their burrows.
