Remember, it’s not Christmas until Sam launches a turkey into Low Earth Orbit.

This is Texas. Where’s the Holiday Brisket? The splayed whole hog over a charcoal pit? The Christmas Links? So spicy and smokey?
    Smoked Turkeys?

My first and only Christmas in Texas (88) for a NG FX (I did refueling point for helos and armored vehicles, volunteered so guys with families could stay in Ohio for duration. ) Had all of the above as well as Christmas dark beers. (Grunts) and Temple of Scotch Sampling (officers)

Day before NYD we got to ride “Hot” in the helos and hunt feral hogs. Any under 80lbs went to processors and then to local food banks and needy communities.
Learned to lead with M60, and that a MA Deuce will clean a carcass of guts blood brains and most of the skeleton, too.
M16 sucks to shoot feral hogs.
    Timberwolf hunter/sniper is perfect.
Shotguns vary, but the mixed loads rivaled slugs and bolt special loads.

4 helos, all the leftover ammo from FX near 600 hogs culled. 240 in recoverable range.
I only got 2 hrs flighttime as I still had to run refueling station.
Colder than normal, but worth it.
Flew back with over 30# of smoked meats, sausage links, unfortunately the Brisket leftovers didn’t survive the flight crew.
Airchief made sure our pilots got fed and to make it a comfy flight back to Wright Patterson AFB. Had to go around 2 winter storms.
Guys driving POL trucks got stuck in Missouri trying to avoid storms. They had plenty of rations, too.
All that and I got paid, plus flight pay, and flight hours credited (thanks TNG).

You got to do way more than I did while in the military. Nice job at doing that.
Happy Christmass to all out there in the either.
What is an old Frosty the Snow Man called?…….Glass of water.

Hope they wrote all that off to “training.” It’s an effective way to learn how to pull lead on a moving target from a moving helicopter.

TANG got to write it off as public service and disaster relief from what I remember.
6 of us flew down to prep FX refueling site. The POL trucks drove down empty, excepting one with fuel for trucks.
        Rest provided on site.
Trucks filled at a refinery. Boys got an extra Xmas feast there.
I got to drive a grader and frontloader for first time since AIT.
Almost all of us were college kids on winter break.
The BBQ x 3 days and hog purge weren’t expected.
        Never spent my day pay.
They had brought in trailers for us as housing.
3 flight ops/refueling a day x5. One at night for quality for other units.
Cajun NG and TNG and TANG handled the rest. They cycled 5 units through a ton of firing time.
No Alpha Bravo show for VIPs. Was a bit cold in Texas that year.
Getting cajoled by hosts 5 hrs before morning ops was prob worst thing that happened other than First shirt stepping into offal pit upto one knee on last day.

If Sam could aim those things we’d have a great countermeasure against the Chinese military satellites.

I’m sure NORAD could do the math and provide her a launch time and vector.

xmas eve…back in the 70’s and 80’s the russkies would invariably send a Bear or two in on both coasts so the QRA crews would have something to do and surface at least one sub so the MP Sqn’s didn’t get bored…never failed. I remember launching the alert A/C (101’s) at 3AM with one boot because I’d kicked the other undet the bed and didn’t have time to fish it out, and as the only Armourer on midnight shift doing sono loads in the middle of the night…great times, may they never come again.

My Dad flew F-101Bs of ADC, 13FIS, out of Glasgow AFB in the early 1960s. Yeah, there was always something going on.

Wishing a Merry Christmas to all my fellow double D folks, as I attempt to read my Scriptures to focus on the Reason for the Season. It’s interesting how the early Church never made a big thing over Yeshuva’s birth, concentrating (rightly) on the Resurrection, and the 40 or so days He taught 100’s of people before His Assention to the Father… Merry Christmas, my friends!
