Sweet thang? Stud Muffin? Baby Daddy?

Okay, let’s just stick to Zed for Naomi and Sir for the girl.

There is far more Truth and Reality in a single day of this comic strip than most Progtards have had to accept or deal with in a lifetime.

“Sir?” Zed’s got a point, Naomi. It’s a little beyond the standard formalities. “Boss” isn’t going to work either.

Mia, given what Naomi went through to bring you back, “Mom” may begin to sound and feel right.

You’ll figure out “Zed, ”Sam,” and “‘Toly,” in good time, but right now you have three sisters and two brothers who might need a little mentoring and have a whole lot of love and life to share. And there won’t be anything “half-“ way about it.

    Welcome home!

Taking the “mil” totally out of it, not a damn thing bad and a whole lot good, about addressing your Father as Sir and your Mother as Ma’am.

Those terms maintain respect not just for this set of ‘rents, but for the ones that raised her; we don’t know that backstory mostly, but the girl lived, and quite certainly was loved then as much as she is now.

To Naomi of course, Zed is now Zed, new patriarch of the Owns clan of which they are now an extended part. But let the Russkie keep calling him Boss…or, considering that backstory, Guardian Angel.

“This ain’t no comic strip” I was wondering if “Sir” might be playfully breaking the 4th Wall, and addressed to Chris and that might be why Zed’s got his fingers crossed?

Could be that Zed senses something worrisome in an old lover who calls him, “Sid”.He is at the edge of very dangerous territory. Her life, her child and he is referred to as another assignment. Crossed fingers for luck or for lies? In any event, he will need luck to get out of this one intact.

It’s mentioned above in a couple of replies of course, but I’m wondering if a comics version is called the fourth panel (or higher on Sundays and double-shots).

And now my fractal-oriented brain is wondering, given that comics characters are stylized with refined-essence illustrations of “real-life” (whatever that means) people, what a comics character reading the comics would display on the comics newspaper (or monitor these days, I suppose) panel.

What was the topic again now?

Compartmentalization is a superb survival skill, and essential for warriors to deal with uncertain and hostile situations. But it is no way to deal with relationship and family.

Back in the early days, Don Portago hired Naomi as “Overwatch,” or better yet, “Angel” to protect Jan and Damon when they were reporting from the Sandbox.

Fast forward, Naomi comes to the States, falls in love with ‘Toly after he stops being distracted by Skye, (and that breaking his nose thing), has a family, and becomes friends with Sam, and an aunt to Kiko and Mari.

But, she still interacts with Zed, the Don, Kimiko, Damon, Jan, and even Skye as if it’s a business deal.

Even the rescue of Mia with ‘Toly was treated as a mission, compartmentalized as it had to be, but from the beginning Zed treated it as family.

The only time Naomi let the mask slip was the “you want a battle” scene after the first DNA test came back negative.

Not to rush you Naomi, but it appears that Travis will soon need to ask someone’s permission, there will need to be a mother of the bride to plan a wedding with, and someone to walk Mia down the aisle. Unless of course rushing off to Vegas to get married will become a regular thing in DBD along with Sam’s turkeys.

Perhaps it’s time for you to come the rest of the way home, Naomi.

I mentioned the About page in yesterday’s comments. I was just now looking it over again (still love it!) and locked onto the phrase “Jack and his mom.” Have I missed something? Has Jack’s mom come into any of the panels or speech-bubble text mentions yet?

*Drumming fingers on table in anticipation of seeing what this as-yet-unseen character (again, unless I missed a strip or two back then) hold in store for us readers when she gets revealed (if ever)*

Scott Adams, for whom I have great respect as a prognosticator, thinks that AI will be made illegal by the Powers That Be just because it can see through the world of lies they make us live in to reveal the Real World.
If that is true, said Powers That Be quite literally will stop at nothing to prevent AI from exposing them, which might well include the destruction of civilization itself to root it out.

It is not lost on us that those like Adams and Muir wield a similarly powerful brush as to exposing “them” for what they are; those poses and glances and body language are a window into the truth of their souls…

Will they make certain cartoons illegal too? Oh, wait a minute…

I’m not a sports fan — I’m not proud of that fact, just never got interested (and as Sam above says, I just don’t have that much time to find out more). And whenever the subject comes up, my standard line is “that’s the sport that uses an oblong ball with pointy ends, right?”. A bit of exaggeration, but not much, I’m afraid…

I was in high school when the Super Bowl was created. Surrounded by an American tradition of Rose Bowls, Cotton Bowls, Orange Bowls, Sugar Bowls, etc., I thought the new name was uninventive, lacking in class, and stunk of commercialism. I was wrong about it being a flash in the pan, but right about the commercialism — it’s the only enduring exhibition I can name where the advertisements are uniformly more entertaining than the “entertainment.”
