      John M, Kafiroon, Eon,

Mia was conceived in the midst of a perpetual conflict.

She was born in a bomb blast and raised in a crucible.

A successful adult and happily married, she chose to walk into hell like she owned the place, with her husband as a missionary.

The “University of Hard Knocks”doesn’t even begin to describe that kind of education. Mia is wise far beyond her years.

Obviously we can only know Mia through Chris’s amazing talents. But I was privileged to know Nancy Wake and Johanna Krueger, patriots and resistance fighters from World War II. They would have been the first to tell you that no woman is a match for a 210 pound man in a fair fight, but why fight fair? If you ain’t cheating, you ain’t trying. I’m pretty sure they had mastered Sun Tzu’s “The Art of War” before they were 10.

In someone such as Mia, they would recognize a sister from a different mother.

And, if you were not already a disciple of Kipling’s “The Female of the Species,” they would make you a true believer.

There is much wisdom in Eon’s post.

Finally, Zed. That DNA test result? Really?! One doesn’t need to be a geneticist to know that Mia is the daughter of you and Naomi.

One of the unforeseen consequences of the Internet is that if somebody has a phone, WiFi and can read, the sum total of human knowledge is literally at their fingertips.

It has caused the greatest “democratization” of learning since the printing press.

We think of it in terms of homeschooling and Zoom classes. To a child in the slums of Marrakesh or a woman living under the Taliban, it means an entirely different and hopefully better world is within their grasp. With nobody else necessarily even knowing what they are doing.

When I say it was an “unforeseen” result, I’m referring to governments. They no longer control data, in spite of all their efforts to do so. And they are losing control of opinion, in spite of the efforts of their friends- such as the Twitterati.

You probably have to have worked with certain agencies, as I have, to understand just how much that terrifies them.

    Merry Christmas, Chris and everyone.

    cheers

The problem of alternative education is that there is just too much information to sift through. The traditional system relied on educators who were trained in critical thinking and (for the most part) didn’t have a particular political agenda who did the sifting for us.
Granted it wasn’t perfect but we muddled through.
Now that system is thoroughly corrupt, politicized by the willfully ignorant.
We now have thousands of people desperately trying to replace the old system with something functional.
Here we are presented with two geniuses who found their way, but not everyone is a genius.
The best proposal I’ve heard so far is the possibility of an education oriented Artificial Intelligence that can do the sifting on a case-by-case basis.
A great idea if we can bypass Google and the like.

        John,

        No need for AI.

Occam’s Razor, Kalman Filters, and the Second Law of Thermodynamics rapidly separate the wheat from the chaff in enormous amounts of data.

Truth is usually simple and invariably rare. Lies and falsehoods create far more “data points” and rapidly become increasingly complex as individuals strive mightily to maintain their delusions.

Look up the origin of the modern liberal arts’ colleges. A good starting point is the book The Day The Universe Changed (1979) by James Burke.

Short form; In the late Middle Ages and the early Renaissance, the European universities, run by the Catholic Church, had degenerated into boot camps for the Church, producing aggressive, proselytizing minions who could debate the number of angels that could dance on the head of a pin for days on end but could not do double-entry bookkeeping.

Rigorous fealty to Church doctrine overrode everything else, no matter what the subject. In Burke’s words, the universities had become “temples of irrelevant logic-chopping” that no longer served a useful purpose.

        Sound familiar?

The “liberal arts” colleges (so named because their curricula were based on the Roman trivium and quadrivium; trivium is grammar, logic, and rhetoric, quadrivium is arithmetic, astronomy, music, and geometry) grew up to answer the practical needs of the growing European industrial economy. Men and some women went to them to learn to be architects, engineers- and accountants.

Today, the “liberal arts” colleges have degenerated to what the church run universities were then. Call it “woke” or “social justice” or etc., it all comes down to a religious cult which may not be questioned and has no application in the real world other than aggressive missionary status.

It is being replaced by trade schools and online learning.

As for the students requiring the guidance of “educators”, first you have to ensure that the “educators” aren’t just more “missionaries” for the One True Faith.

That’s the hard part. Although generally, the more “degree’d” they are, the more fanatical they are likely to be.

There is much to be said for the old apprenticeship system of various “industrial arts”. At least there, you could be pretty sure that the “teacher” knew what he was talking about.

        cheers

That fringe idea of knowledge was also intended in that village building concept my architect building partner’s design submitted that the funds never made it allegedly into the Hatain Bank or out of it or supposedly anywhere. Foundations are known to intercept such things. The natural laws available define what will happen in a space, As Javier had done and made use of them. The fringes define the core as one part of the science he uses.
The natural laws resulted in a confined effect,
Natural laws also defined that the village buildings would resist Category 5 hurricanes, resist R scale 8 earthquakes, were at least 100 feet above any expected flood or storm surge. We allocated funds for a solar powered satellite access with wifi to the entire area.Basic computers were available for donation. Good water and Finnish made water free human waste disposal units
Science is available, common sense is not common.
Knowledge and education is the silver bullet, cross, and garlic to tyrants.

eon, while I don’t know which agencies you have worked with, but “agencies” generally are as much a part of the problem as the media and glitterati.

True the global reach of the intertubes for better or worse. One part that has been much worse and definitely changing better, twitter and its current management are very much what is actually terrifying them, hence the all-out war on it and him. The storage and dissemination of information (and that’s all social media really is, warped though it may have become) may be in the process of being turned back to the light, some of it anyway, twitter and even facebook are showing signs of awakening from the wokeness, and most legacy media is circling the drain, that part of it not already in the sewer, and whatever replaces it is likely to have different approach if they don’t want to hop in the sewer too.

Unfortunately even a 105 lb blonde with a 135 IQ is no match for a 200 lb aggressor with a double-digit IQ. Despite all the Hollyweird movies that ooze grrl-power showing how easy it is to beat up 210 lb uglies, in real life it ain’t easy at all.

A girl’s best defense is surprise – mace, a sock with a couple rolls of quarters up-side the haid, a 9mm Shield EZ, etc. Deploy then run …

Anyway. Merry Christmas to all especially those of us in the LGBFJB community.

Nice to see ‘day the universe changed’ mentioned, that program always fascinated me and still does….of course having to continually explain how I arrived at a topic when a conversation shifts radically as soon as I join in does make it appropriate watching 🙂

We need something like that or ‘cosmos’ (the original) with no ‘woke’ slant to it today, kids are being fed complete and utter bull$h!t in schools today and the purple haired z-cup fake boobs wearing pretend ‘teachers’ are only going to make it worse.

In simplified terms, the problem with holographs is the fact said projected visible-light Electromagnetic (EM) waveforms require a EM “container” to render them intact and coherent. The same concept also applies to controlled “plasma torches” or “light sabers” of STAR WARS fame.

Re James Burke. Loved his two series, bought the book and the videos. Would love to set him down in a pub and just listen to him. The bar tab would be through the roof but worth every penny.
