        @Henry,

I disagree;, he is actually playing directly to his constituency (MAGA/KAGA) and building it in the process (Those awakening to and shocked by the Truth). Still that constituency is not sufficient to drive him back into the big chair, but it serves as a bumper on the right side so that other positions and actions seem much more legal and legitimate. Deception and diversion are his forte.

OTOH, in the real world a couple beheadings on the courthouse lawn would have a Yuge deterrent effect doncha think?

This would probably bring street muggings, beatings, polar bear hunting, robberies, and anything else that is an actual crime against others to an immediate halt. For pushing someone in front of a subway or other vehicle; hanging by a construction crane.
If there is an argument that this is not their fault because of insanity or whatever, I would like to know how you would prevent the violent ones from hurting others.

        “…polar bear hunting…”

Ha! That one is rather self-solving when the hunter gets a little too close; can you imagine THAT playing out on the courthouse lawn? 😀

I mean nobody would ever fuck with one of those giant cuddly’s again, and that is precisely the effect we want to impose with the guillotine/noose methods.

Public executions worked for over two thousand years. Our recent prudishness concerning punishment, OTOH, seems to be failing.

It’s a lot like playing a game- sports, boardgame, whatever- and having one side held to rules and the other side has NO rules, with referees owned by the no rules side. All because they know that if the “game” were played by the rules, they’d lose big!

And if you complain about how incredibly one sided that is, you are labeled as wanting to destroy democracy, which really is just mob rule, so maybe we don’t want “democracy” imposed on our republic, while being able to expect to have or not have rules the same as the other side!

Mob Rule, it is. Led by the elites, for the elites. If they were even in favor of Democracy, they wouldn’t be pushing so many programs that would be voted in by popular vote.

The Elites suffer from money blindness. They think they can bribe their way to dominate the Mob. But down that path lies their own demise.

Leftists are basically made up of those kids we all knew back in our childhood days (and there was *always* at least one of these in any given neighborhood or schoolyard) whom no one wanted to play with, because we all knew that he would only follow the rules of the game as long as he was winning. The moment he suffered even the slightest setback, he would immediately start trying to make up changes to the rules to give himself the advantage again — and if we didn’t let him get away with it, he would fly into a temper tantrum about how “you’re not playing the game right!” (by which, of course, he meant “you’re lot letting *me* win!”) and stomp off in a huff to find the nearest parent, teacher, or other authority figure to complain to.

Citizens are subjected to the death penalty daily, we know where and how, yet there is virtually no ‘equity’ for those that have been convicted of violent crimes.

Here’s an idea: Every time a person is murdered an execution is completed. Start with the first in line on death row and proceed through the system by length of incarceration, longest first. We should be down to a manageable prison population quite quickly.

Elon will have to use his superior experience, maturity, and judgment to rein in Javier’s superior brainpower and technical wizardry I think…

“One of the biggest risks to the future of civilization is AI,” Musk told attendees at the World Government Summit in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, shortly after mentioning the development of ChatGPT.

“It’s both positive or negative and has great, great promise, great capability,” Musk said. But, he stressed that “with that comes great danger.”

The Tesla, SpaceX and Twitter boss was asked about how he sees technology developing 10 years from now.

Musk is co-founder of OpenAI, the U.S. startup that developed ChatGPT — a so-called generative AI tool which returns human-like responses to user prompts.

ChatGPT is an advanced form of AI powered by a large language model called GPT-3. It is programmed to understand human language and generate responses based on huge bodies of data.

ChatGPT “has illustrated to people just how advanced AI has become,” according to Musk. “The AI has been advanced for a while. It just didn’t have a user interface that was accessible to most people.”

Whereas cars, airplanes and medicine must abide by regulatory safety standards, AI does not yet have any rules or regulations keeping its development under control, he added.

“I think we need to regulate AI safety, frankly,” Musk said. “It is, I think, actually a bigger risk to society than cars or planes or medicine.”

Regulation “may slow down AI a little bit, but I think that that might also be a good thing,” Musk added.

The billionaire has long warned of the perils of unfettered AI development. He once said artificial intelligence is “far more dangerous” than nuclear warheads.

His words have more gravity today, as the rise of ChatGPT threatens to upend the job market with more advanced, human-like writing.

Musk left OpenAI’s board in 2018 and no longer holds a stake in the company.

“Initially it was created as an open-source nonprofit. Now it is closed-source and for profit. I don’t have an open stake in OpenAI, nor am I on the board, nor do I control it in any way.”

Part of the reason for Musk’s decision to establish OpenAI was because “Google was not paying enough attention to AI safety,” he said.

I abhor the idea of regulation as that implies gov involvement, but that is emblematic of the extent of the man’s concern.

” responses based on huge bodies of data”… From what I’ve been reading ChatGPT is ‘Woke’ the max aka garbage in garbage out.

Elon says: “If the Universe is really as old as science seems to think it is, where are the aliens? The crazy thing is I’ve seen no evidence of alien technology or alien life whatsoever and I think I’d know.” “We should take great care with what very well may be this tiny candle in a vast darkness and make sure that it does not go out and that we extend the light of consciousness beyond earth.”

Agreed with the old dismissive truism, garbage in garbage out, as to most technical languages and the internet itself; they only know what they are told.

The difference with AI and certainly the source of Elon’s angst, is its potential to take the input and process it human fashion into something else…”thinking”, extrapolating, and arriving at conclusions and “opinions” far beyond the raw material and information garbage they are based on before spitting out totally new garbage, and most concerning, self-awareness and self-preservation. And I agree that the examples I have seen lean heavily to the leftism that created its algorithms etc so that it reads like some wog at NYT cranked it out. But, it’s very early in that game so we will see if future efforts reflect true independent thought -something most humans struggle mightily with- before seeing it as a tool or a threat or just another computer program, version 1000.0.

I do have to disagree with the genius on the point of alien influence though; all one has to do is look around at the marvels of our world to know intelligent design is involved, who is to say that our God is not of some dimension of time and space so far beyond our understanding as to defy debate. Sometimes super smart people be all education and science and miss out on the obvious that encompasses all of it.

Really just a video game right now (using the term “just” advisedly considering).

For the chat thing, it’s not really AI right yet is it, since currently anything that can be worked in can be worked out. That’s as long as its the game players working it and not the console brain itself, at which point the self-awareness that I mentioned in my prior comment and is the featured limitation in the body of the article, it is independently intelligent…and it is that eventuality that has Elon so uncharacteristically uber-cautious. Don’t let your guard down.

At the end of the day, regulation has no effect on evildoers. Liquor regulation. Dope regulation. Gun regulation. All it does is harass the people who aren’t the problem in the first place, like locks that keep only honest people out.

My goto question is: consider an American who has both a great desire to own a nuke, and the considerable fortune required to make it happen. How much money are you willing to bet that he doesn’t already own a nuke?
