Similar story here, John+M… I got along great with my former in-laws. We used to joke that if my ex and I ever divorced, they’d keep me & toss her… And that’s more or less what happened.

They’ve both passed now but we got on well to the end… I’m still tight with my ex’s brother & his lovely wife. My ex? She moved to the west coast… good riddance…

      • March 19, 2022 at 5:33 pm

The running joke in my family is that I got custody of my In-Laws in the divorce. I see them more often than my ex does.

Didn’t even have to say those few words to show he ain’t the “president”.

Can you imagine slojoe crinkin’ on ol’ Bob Wahr?

Says quite a bit siently though, that the boy can do that; not easy to do right, and you can bet Zed is taking notice of that too.

Silently. Boy does his talking with his hands. But not with Kiko if he wants to keep them.

The next absolutely best thing the boy could say to save his butt would be to ask Zed’s advice about how to run his family’s ranch. No 20 year old has all the experience needed to succeed running a family ranch and no prospective Father in Law can keep from offering advice.

Good job, Mr Cates. Keep working on what’s important; both the barbed wire AND Zed (potential future father in law). Straight talk and no denials.
And about Xiden…..tell us how you REALLY feel. Don’t hold back.

I think I like him already.

Krink … Krink … Krink … Corn Pop!

Apologies. Sometimes these toons are like a Rorschach test and that was the first thing that came to my mind after seeing the barb wire crimping noises and the reference to Sloppy Joe Biden …

Krink … Krink … Krink … Corn Pop is surely the sound that is made inside of Dementia Joe’s skull as his brain cells randomly implode in a chain reaction mode.

Just feed him some more soft serve ice cream and put a clean Depends on him and he’ll be happy.

HMMMmmmm…..I’m very much a “gun-guy”. When I first saw the “Krink” before I made out the gloved hands, the first thing that popped into my mind was “Krinkov” of which some of my friends have several. The AK Krinkov is affectionately known as the “Krink”

      Chai?
Only Chris knows if that was an accident, although it would be amusing if Jack turned out to be of Jewish extraction.
And even with a name like Jack Cates he could still be “officially” a Jew because his mother was.

To Life! Often said at celebrations in anticipation of all the good things to come. Could there be a more appropriate context?

And The Artiste might drop a few spellings here and there and pass out at the keyboard prior to episode launch from time to time, BUT…

All those little surreptitiously inserted elements are intentional and meaningful…good catch boron!

Fergive me fer bein a little old school…but…Dad shouldn’t have had to track the young buck down for a convo. HE should have come to Dad, or darlin daughter should have invited him over for supper…at the VERY least he should have dropped by during Chore Time to give Kiko a hand, and meet the fambly. Unless…
He isn’t really “Seeing” her, she is just trying to get that going, she is the one pursuing…He isn’t reciprocating.
(By the way…How do you set a propic on this page??)

A 20 year old trying to keep a hardscrabble ranch afloat on a shoestring isn’t going to have a lot of time to socialize.
My guess is that Zed did the neighborly thing to hunt Mr. Cates down in his “office” because, after all, it was in Zed’s interests to do so.
Mr. Cates also did the neighborly thing by offering up his first name for the conversation.

    Chris,
First time commentor. So, the young man is Mr. Cates. Did I notice a sky blue ragtop POS Caddy on this ranch? Would his mom be the widow of Det. Jack Cates?

Excellent work as usual. Having raised two daughters, your insight is uncanny!

KPL, that is the concensus from the other day, yes. Two things though; I was off on my year when I said ’62, Nolte’s was a ’64 and Chris nailed it.

The other is I don’t know how the hell he’s going to tie that particular movie character to the hard-working ranch character that Jack Sr. was.

I’m following this one closely. My daughter cycled a few duds and one good one prior to her husband, He’s the best of the bunch. They’ve been happily married for a decade. 3 girls including a set of identical twins. Dad’s gonna have his work cut out for him.
