You ever drive at speed down an unpaved road? Hell! Sam may have simply engaged the 4WD and headed out cross country. Don’t know about other parts of the country, but even paved back country roads in Texas tend to follow section lines. Getting anywhere can take a while.

Unfortunately, around here if you ignore the gate keepers you can not only be prosecuted for violating the emergency orders (think fine up to $1,000 and/or up to a YEAR in county lockup) but also for criminal trespass. Two $grand plus a year as a guest of the county would suck biggly.

No commie edicts from the state or county here in Flarduh. Establishments can have their rules but mostly not small biz here other than medical offices etc., and “greeters” at chains like Wally and Publix are ordered not to engage those who retain their personal freedom to not hide like a scared rabbit or look like a bank robber while suffocating themselves for no fucking reason other than control…like my wife.

We’ll see how the girls here handle their mask-free militance when the get wherever they’re going.

Yep … I was recently waiting in line at the local post office and I remarked to everyone that it’s getting to where you can’t tell the bank robbers from the good guys anymore.

Also … I had watched some of that dystopian cable series “Watchmen” based on the 80’s era comic book earlier this year. In that comic book world good guys and bad guys were all wearing masks, not for virus pandemics, but to hide their I denties …

At the end of a rather odd S/F novel titles “All Those Explosions Were Someone Else’s Fault” four newly-minted superheroes were talking.

They kept telling us that old people and children are the most susceptible. But the local laws requiring masks in stores and etc. specifically exempt children, apparently because parents just can’t get their under-six rug rats to keep the masks on.

As for us over-sixty types, breathing with even a surgical mask on while pushing a cart is a real challenge. An N95 mask might as well be a plastic bag over the head. And no, I don’t smoke and never have in my life.

But who said regulations created by “social reformers” were required to make sense?

I’m 67, have sinus issues, and am slightly claustrophobic (MOPP was never a good time), but I don’t have a problem with either a shop or painter’s mask, fake N95 mask, cheap Chinese throwaway mask, a cotton mask, or a bandana.

My RN sister gave me a polyester mask her employer passed out to everyone, and that one is impossible to breathe through — not to mention if one doesn’t brush one’s teeth before wearing it, hoo boy.

Headed over to Etsy for that Claymore mask. If I haveta wear the danged thing, may as well have fun with it.

If regulations were made by people who follow the pertinent health numbers instead of the fake polls, no one under the age of 60 would be wearing a mask. The mortality figures just don’t support it.
There are exceptions of course, obesity, hypertension, diabetes to name a few, but the major consideration is to build herd immunity and you can’t do that without exposing people in large numbers.

Died 20 days after that. I wear one with a charcoal filter, mostly to Keep myself safe but it gives others around me some comfort I think. Do businesses have the right to say “you must have a mask on to enter”? Sure they do just like saying “No Shirt, No Shoes, No Service”. Can or should the Fed or state government mandate it or make it a law? No. that is an infringement. Should responsible people wear them? I think yes. But if you don’t, it is my right not to do business or associate with you.

CDC quietly revised COVID-19 exclusive deaths to under 10,000?! What?!

If you feel better with a mask then wear one, it is equally effective in both directions so no need to give others grief for not wearing one.

I haven’t seen the numbers yet. But there are X deaths per day, from anything, in USA (or world) and since that is unlikely to have had a significant increase (I could be wrong) this whole thing will be shown to be a power over the populace farce. All I want is for those responsible for the panicdemic (yes, new word intended) to be punished appropriately, and very publicly.

    Interesting
As of 31 August, the USA’s fatality rate (percentage of cases that died) decreased from 6 to 3 percent since the onset of Covid 19. Of the 20 states, plus DC, that voted blue in 2016, seven of 21 are 4 percent, or above. Thirteen of the 21 are three percent, or above. Of the 30 states that voted red, two of thirty are above 4 percent and six of thirty are above 3 percent. Michigan and Pennsylvania, unfortunately, have Democrat governors. It’s clear, one’s chances of survival are best in the red.
