    Zed’s comment has universal application.

Usually this metaphor is an overkill. Not every trainwreck is a 3-trains-100-cars-1-boat wreck.

Mia and Travis May be ZZ Top fans, speaking a desert dialect, but right now someone needs to cue up “Kiss the Girl” from Disney’s The Little Mermaid.

So, Sam and Zed were BOTH using reverse-psychology all along. I called it the first or second day when Sam and Mia were driving to town about three weeks ago. (in real time)

All is fair in love and war … and war is merely an extension of diplomacy by other means; as per Carl Von Clausewitz.

Huh. I would kinda EXPECT Sam to run a scam, ( hello, redhead!) But it sorta surprises me to see Zed doin’ so, even if he WAS sheep-dipped into Christians In Action….

Wrong, Muir. You got it wrong. It’s SLOW AND painful to watch.

Yep. Painful. A mixture of hope and fear. It is nature’s way.

I think I remember some of the scenery along that road.

This couple point up the main reason we should have vamoosed from Afghanistan soonest instead of hanging around “nation building”.
Dari and Farsi are essentially the same language, and the Taliban speak Pushtu, so what we are looking at, yet again, is essentially a conflict of Sunni vs Shia.
We stayed in Afghanistan and Japan attacked Pearl Harbor.
I guess that nations in general are incapable of being wise in spite of the wise leadership they have available.

Appearances and attempts to save face above strategy (as “ought” instead of “can”), yes.
It’s not adequate, but face always somewhat matters for power, and in a theocracy becomes all-important. And in a crypto-theocracy (which is what happens if separation of Church and State turns into «a fight of creeds masquerading as policies»), it’s both inevitable and highly resistant to mitigation.

For an intrinsically hypocritical theocracy, escalating conflicts of theology with reality (ensuring supremacy via “point deer make horse”) look less exceptional, which eases addiction to this.
Once it becomes a habit, “unprincipled exceptions” and “looking the other way” become smaller and less common even despite hypocrisy, while attempts to implement delusions more common and increasingly deranged. To the level of IngSoc slogans, mistaking an army for nursemaids in body armor, and mistaking girls for boys, perhaps.
Then you can easily recognize zealots (real or fake), as loons who go froth-on-mouth when someone mentions that there may be some better approach to dealing with a round hole in the wall than “must slam square peg into the floor even harder!”.

Having dealt with DoS for 40 years, the inability of ANY functionary to make any decision is the most painful part of that orifice, I mean edifice. Lives get lost, billions get wasted, and we leave it worse than we found it. The state of indecision is the state of Hell.

Odd stuff going on between my kindle and this site.
Periodically my name and e-mail will disappear, and I’ll have to re-enter them to post something.
Just now when I responded to cb, “+” was stuck in between every name in my user name. Now my comment above is awaiting moderation.
    I’ve removed the “+”s, now let’s see what happens…..
