I too don’t care much for “cannons” of the loose variety which he ironically is, and I especially don’t care for “canons” as specified by him much too authoritatively and much too often.

Fortunately, I spent my 20’s (the 70’s) in the military including 2 tours of S.E.A.
And I was fully prepared to put in a full 20+ and retire but got out in 10 due to all the ‘political correctness’ and other bullshit that was infiltrating the branches.
Your last paragraph, same here, 69-80. Couple sh*tholes & Euro big cities during the (not) Cold War. Asked for ANY place rural, pretty please. Alaska, Tennessee, even SW Texas… No dice; next return to CONUS – the Pentagon. That’s when my thick head realized we had a failure to communicate and I said A M F.
Errata: On the plus side, it all started with my permanent exodus from California. Whew, said the bullet that went by.
Pretty much the same thoughts but too close to a pension to just quit, accepted that I wasn’t going to get promoted because I wouldn’t play the political games to get it then took a buyout when it came around…got the promotion message though, dated three days after my retirement date…
I went long enough to get what I thought was a decent pension (just short of 32 years) but the feds are deficit spending us into inflation. The indexing isn’t keeping up with inflation.
