    Not remembering much of my high school Latin, I had to look it up;
    “Yes, We Can”.

    And my rebut would be, “An atom blaster is a good weapon, but it can point both ways.”

    Who are you kidding? When thinking with the little head a little head beats a Royal Flush or common sense. Tomorrow is soon enough to worry about consequences. You will have regrets on your death bed, let them be about things you did not things you could have done.

      I have been privileged on multiple occasions to spend several months at a time in locations that your travel agent, given eternity, could not find with Google Maps and the Guide Michelin. As I recall, the locals accepted neither American Express nor Diners Club.

      These locations were pandemic with bacteria, virii, fungi, worms, and other infectious lifeforms that had not yet been discovered by the writers of medical textbooks. These lifeforms also digested steel-belted, radial, off-road, studded, condoms as a snack.

      Our prophylaxis consisted of Z-packs and hydroxychloroquine. And the admonition to maintain at least 9 inches (or more in my case) distance from the local flora and fauna regardless as to how friendly they may appear.

      That advice was sound then, and remains in good stead today. The drive for survival should trump the drive for procreation.

    “Truly we shall” is the closer English translation. Ablative absolute constructs are tricky animals from Imperial Roman Latin to the medieval Church Latin, then comes European scholarly Latin from which much scientific description flows (17th to 19th Century). 2600 years of fits and starts. Choose your era and select your declensions, conjugations, and constructs. Split infinitives are a 15 yard penalty and loss of down.

      I don’t do Latin but I do see ‘possum’, as in, ‘play dead then scurry away unnoticed at the earliest convenience’. Sounds very Democratic when they’re not killing cops and burning down cities.

        Triplanetary. Then First Lensman, Galactic Patrol, Gray Lensman, Second Stage Lensman, and Children of the Lens. Masters of the Vortex is set in the Lensman universe, but is a stand-alone story.

        I always found the Skylark series to be more engaging, if a shorter pantheon:

        Skylark of Valeron
