Cro-Magnon appears in the genetic record about 100,000 years ago, literally out of nowhere.

The old story was that Cro-Magnon wiped out Neanderthal. DNA analysis now shows that rather, the two strains interbred. Today, about half of humanity has at least some Neanderthal genes, mostly the despised white European part, plus Native Americans.

Curiously, prior to 100,000 years ago, guess what’s not shown in cave paintings? The Moon, which has the oddest orbit of any natural satellite in the solar system, considerably farther from its primary (Earth) than it has any right to be under the laws of orbital dynamics. (As Willy Ley once asked, “What’s it doing way out there?”)

It’s entirely possible that H. Beam Piper was partly right. Cro-Magnon wasn’t originally part of Earth’s evolution; he came here from somewhere else.

But it may have been from a lot further away than Mars. See David Weber’s “Dahak” novels for a possible explanation.

/The problem with Occam’s razor is that the simplest explanation may not necessarily fit all the data.

It would seem, from some NASA material I’ve read, that an orbit that is somewhat of an ellipse is far more common. Perfect (rare) balance that yields a circular orbit isn’t going to be achieved with an imperfect Earth, and imperfections resulting influences of other bodies in our Solar System.

A perfect or near-perfect circular orbit is essentially a Keplerian elliptical orbit in which the two foci happen to have the same coordinates. And yes, in nature that is very odd.

With a conscious mind in charge and actual propulsion, it’s just easier to cope with.

The Pak Protectors altered the orbit to assure stable tides and to clear cis-lunar space of debris that might endanger the Breeders. Meanwhile they busied themselves flipping the tectonic plates on Venus to eliminate any proto-life forms that might evolve into threats.

Occam’s Razor is the sieve of a winnowing procedure that allows us to rationally evaluate our information and move on to the next test if something doesn’t measure up.
The classic example is Mercury’s odd orbit with respect to Newtonian physics giving rise to Einstein’s theory.
We’re not God. We can’t grok the universe. We have to break down the real world one step at a time.

Fine discussions in this thread today. Yes sir, agree, with a conscious mind applied & thrust I can get my Cessna to do that stuff. If I don’t pay attention to the wind, I get that danged elliptical thing. 🙂

I am sure no alien space race has ever arrived on this planet. Ancient civilizations just evolved faster than others. There is no evidence of any device or invention from another planet. Those who think the pyramids were made by a superior race don’t account for the intelligence of those just more adapt than them. When I went to Sunday School there was a print on the creation of the pyramids and it makes perfect sense instead of the fanciful theories of “experts”. The same “intelligent” people with a thought process who believe in a flat earth or deny Space.

Everybody used to think the Great Pyramid was built up from huge blocks of stone throughout, and wondered how they were moved.

A few years ago, researchers actually did borings and used ground-penetrating radar on the Great Pyramid, and the smaller ones near it, and determined that in all of them, the square blocks only made up an outer “skin” about ten to fifteen meters thick. Inside, each one is a pile of rubble and sand fill.

Instead of a structure that it was estimated would have taken forty to fifty years to complete, a typical Egyptian pyramid is actually a thin facade’ of stone blocks backed by construction detritus, that was probably knocked together in under a decade.

Starting with mastabas and going through the Bent Pyramid and etc., you can see the entire trial-and-error evolution of pyramid construction in Egypt.

The ones that are really hard to figure out are the pre-Columbian pyramids in Mexico and etc., such as Cholula, and the pyramids in China that are so large that it was only recently that anyone realized that they weren’t natural features because of their sheer size. In height and volume they dwarf anything in Egypt.

Our ancestors were apparently smarter, and better practical architects, than we’ve generally assumed they were.

      cheers

Way back in the day not as smart as today? Maybe intuitively smarter.

Just ’cause we can’t figure out how they did it doesn’t mean they didn’t do it.

Adam and Eve weren’t the first humans created…
Read Genesis carefully, others were created first.
Adam and Eve were just the first progenitors of Abraham…
Cain and their other offspring found wives among the earlier batch.

For a limited area, pretty much everything that happened in Scripture happened within a 200 mile circle, their ‘world’.
