Who was the actual genius of the two.
Sherman was the modern inventor of “Total War”, recognizing that in a war between modern nations you have to make war on those who support the armies as well as the armies themselves.
It is no accident that it is Sherman who is misquoted as saying “War is Hell”.

Trump is no angel and there is plenty to dislike about him yet I doubt any other person could survive the never-ending shitstorm being thrown at him. While I might wish to see a bit less of his raw bombast, it’s clear DJT is effective… and the fact that the Blue Wave turned out to be Smurf Piss says the voters haven’t rejected DJT yet…

What do you folks think of Dr Jordan Peterson’s suggested tactic for the Dems?

If only what Peterson said could be true.
But Dinesh D’Souza would take issue with this. The nature of the Democratic Party has always been one of finding the lowest common denominators in the political landscape and herding it to gain power by any means necessary no matter the cost.
Nobility and Reason are not to be found there except from the very few voices crying in the wilderness of political expediency.

First, because he is a citizen of Canada, not the USA.

Second, because he does not speak for the Democrats. He cannot.

Third, because the Dhims will NEVER apologize for their tantrums, and indeed, they will double-down on the hate, seeing it as “justified” because they’re convinced of the “rightness” of their SJW cause!

Grant’s autobiography is still available, the modern edition with notes.
It’s more of a confessional than a biography. He refused to apologize for being part of the American Party.
I wonder what Grant would say today.
    Yes, he’d probably support Trump.

The dems won’t get the message Mr. Peterson is giving them. They don’t listen to people with better solutions. They follow a dogma that has never successfully run a society – their success is measured in the power they wield while making that society crumble.

So decades of bleeding hearts and wilting flower dreamers have been “educating” our children. Thus we have many nancy boy effeminate men and demanding wymyn that have no ability to think through to the unintended consequences of the ideas they were taught were the ideal. This usually occurs in societies that have too much leisure and money so people can indulge impractical ideas and utopian ideals.
Never works. Wars from stronger people end that, Invasions, hordes of barbarians (not as “cultured” peoples) move in and destroy. And good old plague and pestilence can happen.

Just not agreeing with the parallel re the First Rino and my man DJT.

As I recall Abe made that remark only out of recognition that his bulldog Grant was critical enough to his single-minded goal, to conquer and take over the South, when he was advised to dump USG as a direct threat with aspirations to the presidency.

Trump OTOH, doesn’t have an attack dog on leash, he IS the attack dog, offleash…and it scares the hell out of certain types of people.

Which is actually depicted perfectly at the end, paraphrasing a bit…”girl, say what you’ve got to say, I got shit to do and progs to bite.”

If Grant had been put in charge early on the War Between The States would have ended YEARS sooner. Imagine if there hadn’t been time to build up the hatred that characterized the radical reconstructionists. Grant – unlike Meade – would not have sat on his fat ass hollering for ever more troops. Instead he would have attacked (IIRC) Richmond as soon as practical; ending the war sooner and reducing the death toll immensely.

Sure Grant lost a few. Of course he made some bad decisions and employed some “less than optimal” tactics – #1 he was human and #2 the armed forces did not have all the nice “professional military education” like we do today. West Point has only EVER been a school to produce 2nd Lieutenants. They did not spend the time studying tactics and strategies as we do today. One area they were woefully deficient of was how to best use the new (at the time) and frightfully more lethal military technologies available as the war was starting. Thus we had such magnificently valorous (but ultimately suicidal) actions as Picket’s Charge. But then armed forces forever seem to be fighting yesterday’s war with today’s weapons. Can you spell Maginot Line?

More to the point I think is that Grant, Sherman, Lee, Longstreet, and the new technologies were busy _inventing_ modern warfare, to the point that Winston Churchill dubbed the American Civil War as “the first Modern War”.
Their experimentation alone, one way or another, killed a lot of extra people. They were in unexplored country militarily speaking and our “20/20 hindsight” is perpetually found wanting when we discover that our histories are not all that reliable.
I suppose the best quote on the whole subject comes from the movie “War Games” and sums up the Cold War in very few words.
“The only way to win is not to play.”

I had to suppress my gag reflex to get past Peterson’s praise of the Party of Slavery (since 1828!) and “party of the workers” bushwah, but after that he had some valid things to say.
The “Antifa” fascists and the Democrat mad dogs (Mad Maxine, Eric Holder, etc.) aren’t going to take the high road, though. Example: The attack (including breaking and attempted entry) on Tucker Carlson’s house yesterday.

OT somewhat but our buddy Petercat has started a petition on the WH petition site asking that We the People be allowed to fund the border wall. We all know that the new congress is, shall we say, unlikely to approve any funding so why not let those of us who want the wall fund it?

I understand and applaud the sentiment and intent, but we ARE funding the border wall, in fact as potus has just proven it is fully funded and in place; the United States Military.

What else is a border but a wall and what function does our national defense (and gov itself) serve but to defend it from attack and invasion.

Ask the hordes of the organized “caravans” and the organizers themselves whether they believe they will face a wall of defense if/when there is an attempted illegal attack…hence the whole story kind of fading away when they saw the real deal response.

There are all kinds of “walls” and all kinds of funding for them. The physical “Big Beautiful Wall” will be funded as promised by Mexico…that is happening right now, hence their cooperation with Trump on this and the trade deal; he has held their pesos to the fire and they are screaming “Uncle!”… Uncle Sam that is; they know which side their tortillas are buttered on.

Just another example of Trump masterfully manipulating the ignorant leftist children on how to play the game and artfully make the deals. Let them play with their budgets and pretend at their power while the real work of the nation and the world gets done in spite of them and to spite them….right under their noses.

Chernowā€™s new biography of Grant is superb. Grant was a far far better general then he was given credit for.

His Vicksburg Campaign is a masterpiece of maneuver against a fortified position and is still studied at my alma mater in Annapolis.

And of course Grant enjoyed whisky, although he was not the drunk history has unfairly portrayed him as.

However I do love this quote.

ā€œWell, I wish some of you would tell me the brand of whiskey that Grant drinks. I would like to send a barrel of it to my other generals.ā€

This getting old nonsense can be a real drag sometimes and I sympathize with AJ Ginsberg and her injuries. I just wish the old bag would give it up and retire instead of trying to hang on until a leftist has moved into 600 Penn. The fact that Ms. Ginsburg is sedentary does not help her. Her osteoporosis was obvious in the last images of her on the internet. Frailty occurs when you stop pushing back against gravity, and she’s been sitting on her tukkus for decades now. This is the price she’s paying.

I believe the report was that she fractured five ribs. That is very painful. I hope that it does not get worse for her.

But if she doesn’t have the common sense to resign after this, she’s off her nut.

Just put a “transfer fee”, tax or whatever on money transfers from the USA anywhere south of the border. How much is the wall going to cost? 25 Billion +, goes to Mexico a year at least. Ann Coulter claimed $75,000 to send one back. And that was just procedural costs. Not counting what we put into them living here.
Washington Examiner calculated it is costing Americans 135 BILLION
a year for all the illegals and their kids.
The wall would be a lot cheaper over much more than a year.
