In response to the gun ban in Morton Grove, IL the town fathers of Kennesaw, GA passed an ordinance REQUIRING every household to have a firearm (tongue in cheek of course, no actual enforcement).
Guess what happened to the violent crime and burglary rate there? I don’t remember who, but somebody in the early Zero years, as he came out of the gate calling for some “common sense gun laws” responded with the Morton Grove/Kennesaw story complete with nifty graphs etc. Morton Grove being a suburb of the very violent Chitown and Kennesaw being a suburb of the pretty violent Hotlanta, the comparison was apt and sobering…but ironic and funny at the same time.
In one quoted time period Kennesaw GA had its first homicide in more than two years…and it was done with a knife.

A week later my Dad sat me down and read me the riot act about hanging around with a member of the SDS from Berkeley and his dishonorably discharged buddy. We have just witnessed the birth of the Internet, a boost to an access of knowledge that may well be the printing press’ equal.
We must be very cautious in calling for armed insurrection, lest we suffer the fate of Europe’s near-perpetual warfare. We are a willful people, we have demonstrated this in the past at the cost of what is still the bloodiest war in our history.
