Obama has also been yammering lately about the USA’s need to give up more sovereignty, or all, to the UN. To fulfill its purpose of peace or some such. Muslims also believe in peace. A peace where all others are dead. Totalitarian control is his vision. They know better he says.
Like the desolation the Greeks got by GS derivitives that lied the Greeks into the Euro Zone. then the expected specnding splurge on borrowed Euros. Then the derivatives came due. Then Greece was emasculated. Then Hillary, Obama and NATO and Soros destroyed North Africa and much of the Middle East thus sending millions of oil money grown Muslim Jihad warriors on a hijrah emigration conquest jihad. Spain and Italy also suffered similar economic destruction and then invasion.
With trump and Putin signalling a lessening of tension, I do not believe the military would carry out any orders of his like that without further verification. It would be immoral to carry out his orders like that at this time.

The two man rule does not include the National Command Authority — President and Secretary of Defense. At present the ICBMs — land and bomber based are aimed at a vacant spot in the Pacific (Russians, the same) However, it would take only a minute or so to enter the received codes to retarget the missiles according to the OPLAN the codes represent. For the targeting of the OPLAN, it would take a significant time to re-write the any targeting of US targets — failsafe precluded any targeting of US in any OPLAN. For the bomber based nukes, there is only the common sense of the pilots, pretty much the same for tactical nukes.

But wouldn’t a “Nuclear Winter” stop “Global Warming”? Or would that be “Human Caused Climate Change”? Then there is the “overpopulation problem” that “threatens all life on the Planet”. So where would you target the nukes to reduce the population with the most effect for the least yeild? Idaho, Kansas and Montana or New York City, Chicago and Los Angeles? Do you live on a target or a resource? How much would China owned US Treasury notes be worth if there was no longer a US Treasury? How big a “safe space” and how many “coloring books”would they need if there were no iPhone 14? So many questions and so few answers.

I spent many unhappy hours (at all hours of the day and night) on complex repairing and PM-ing Titan II comm gear. The “2-man” rule only applies at the launch site. Once the order is authenticated, then 2 keys are needed to initiate launch sequence (unless someone opens the right maintenance panel and uses a piece of wire with alligator clips to bridge the relay). Anyone with the correct codes and access to the radio net could theoretically give the launch order. In the absence of a general alert, I doubt the crews (or more properly ALL the crews) would obey an order out of the blue. U.S. officers and inlisteds are trained to exercise personal initiative, so at least some of the crews would question the order.

Side note: back in the day, it was the Soviets who had to worry about a sneak nuclear attack, not us. Soviet missiles did not have as sophisticated guidance packages as ours did. Our birds were always ready to fly with very little notice. The Soviet birds needed a good while to spin up and align their guidance packages. The necessary electronic chatter would have easily been observed by our spy satellites. I have very little doubt that if it had come to that, we would thrown everything we had at them. Oh and even a “small” thermonuke – say a “modest” 5 megaton warhead – will, depending upon terrain, destroy commercial structures for a good 15 miles (24+ kilometers for our Canuck friends) in every direction. Boost that to 25 megatons and you get a radius of 30 miles. As the onsite missile tech told me on my first trip on complex, Titan II was America’s largest mobile phallic symbol. With it we could fuck a whole county. And that’s no shit!

      Ozymandias

      Percy Shelley’s “Ozymandias”

I met a traveller from an antique land
Who said: Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them and the heart that fed:

And on the pedestal these words appear:
‘My name is Ozymandias, king of kings:
Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!’
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.[4]

    • November 17, 2016 at 12:31 am

Here you go, BWoodman, the sonnet in it’s entirety:

I met a traveller from an antique land,
Who said—“Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. . . . Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
      The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed;
And on the pedestal, these words appear:
      My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings;
Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair!
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal Wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.”

      — Shelley

Percy Shelley had a friendly competition with fellow poet, Horace Smith, to write a sonnet about an Egyptian statue fragment depicting Ramesses II, AKA Ozymandias, in Greek. Shelley’s poem won, as measured by it’s popularity. Here is Smith’s version:

In Egypt’s sandy silence, all alone,
Stands a gigantic Leg, which far off throws
The only shadow that the Desert knows:—
“I am great OZYMANDIAS,” saith the stone,
“The King of Kings; this mighty City shows
“The wonders of my hand.”— The City’s gone,—
Nought but the Leg remaining to disclose
The site of this forgotten Babylon.

We wonder,—and some Hunter may express
Wonder like ours, when thro’ the wilderness
Where London stood, holding the Wolf in chace,
He meets some fragment huge, and stops to guess
        What powerful but unrecorded race
Once dwelt in that annihilated place.

        Don Sander

I like the double meaning in Shelley’s line:
“Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!”
…despair that you can never achieve a fraction of my glory,
and (unintended by Ozzy) despair that however great your works may be, they will all eventually be destroyed and forgotten. The hubris of the left, building their utopian dream societies, all on a foundation of sand…

And of course the perfect retelling of that poem was here, in January 2009 if I recall correctly, with the poem inscribed on the base of a statue of Al Gore, alone and unheeded amid the endless ice of the coming ice age.

      That was Chris’s masterpiece, IMHO.

Look on my Executive Orders, ye Peons, and despair!”
Nothing beside remains. ‘Round the decay
Of that colossal Administration, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.”

Well, of all tax returns filed for 2014, 54.4% legally paid $0 income tax. At the other end of the scale, of the tax returns having $1,000,000 AGI or more, 0.1% legally paid $0 income tax.
So with 54.5% in the bag, all that’s needed is a 2.5% margin of error to make such a claim.

I don’t know about you folks, but I think I could tighten my belt and “scrape by” on a measly $200 grand per year. Might have to cut back a tad on the caviar and foie gras and start wearing $3,000 silk suits instead of $10,000 but it should be doable. Oh, and there reports out of DC that Obozo has been asking for a raise on presidential pensions. I guess $200 grand won’t go as far as us peed-ons imagine. Poor baby. 😉
