What a lovely tribute to Troy. He would be so proud and happy to be included in your strip. Just horrible that it had to happen this way. He loved to share your work with his friends around the world. Thank you for your kindness. His work lives on in his sons.

Troy was a Texas rancher who helped me flesh out Wade and the ranch in both details and ranch life, inasmuch as I know diddly about those things. He passed away recently, but he remains in spirit in the strip, in Wade’s character, I think.

You, Sir, are a Superior Blend of a human being.

That you interact with your base so …intimately in little ways like this, you make us feel like a REAL part of the DBD universe.

And I will *still* put this bug in your ear now and again…*ANY* chance that you’ll helm a live action DBD?

There is a real need for Conservative/Libertarian based entertainment that isn’t ridiculously dumbed down…I can’t see Netflix, Amazon or even Hulu/iTunes NOT at least give a look at a proposal.

        That’s all I want for Christmas, Santa!…PLEEZE??? :o)

      Lee,

I am sorry for your loss.
May I request permission to visit his grave and render Honors in person?

I live south of Austin a ways (three counties south by the highway) but would be proud to plant an American flag and salute him in person.
I am also a Navy veteran and retired Merchant Marine.

      Chris,

Would you please pass along my contact info to Lee to facilitate this?
      Thank you,

Hmmm they wouldn’t “happen up” on a brush fire – but a burnin’ sage bush? The ol’ Abraham on the mountain experience – on the plains?

    • October 27, 2015 at 7:06 am
      GWB

That would be Moses on the mountain. Abraham’s experience on the mountain involved a ram caught in a thicket.

    Day is done,
    gone the sun,
    From the hills,
    from the lake,
    From the sky.
    All is well,
    safely rest,
    God is nigh.

    Go to sleep,
    peaceful sleep,
    May the soldier
    or sailor,
    God keep.
    On the land
    or the deep,
    Safe in sleep.

    Love, good night,
    Must thou go,
    When the day,
    And the night
    Need thee so?
    All is well.
    Speedeth all
    To their rest.

    Fades the light;
    And afar
    Goeth day,
    And the stars
    Shineth bright,
    Fare thee well;
    Day has gone,
    Night is on.

    Thanks and praise,
    For our days,
    ‘Neath the sun,
    ‘Neath the stars,
    ‘Neath the sky,
    As we go,
    This we know,
    God is nigh.

The Bugler played Taps at my Dad’s funeral. The Rifle Party presented a volley of three shots and the cannon did three.
Knowing my Dad he’s either hunting or herding strays on the other side.

Too many have passed that understood Honor, Sacrifice and doing right only to be replaced heads stuck on a phone.

Read Mr. Caffey’s obit, sounds like an American hero, and that’s without even knowing the specifics that earned him recognition here. God bless his soul.

And I sure as hell hope that glowing sky and “homefires” title doesn’t mean what I think.

Illegal alien campfire that got out of control…

That happens a lot here in San Diego.

Plus the fires deliberately set by kids on the other side of the border when the winds are blowing from the southeast (hot, dry winds, the worst kind) so that they can watch the gringos scramble to try to save their fields and houses when the fires cross the borders.

  • October 27, 2015 at 12:23 am

Judging from the blowing leaves and the overhead light, I’d say a helicopter. But the “what is that?” makes me think that it is something quiet and stealthy, maybe a drone.

  • October 27, 2015 at 2:01 am

Through the comments, I was thinking fire. Wetbacks smoldering, that sort of thing.

I’m hoping “Homefires” in this case doesn’t mean “Home on fire”, say as the result of a fire set by the illegals.
Talk about adding insult to injury; crash your car and seriously injure yourself and your spouse to save them just to have the ingrates cause a fire that burns your home and property.

Maybe the “What is that?” refers to the glow on the horizon? Been there, done that here in San Diego. This is not good.

The action in the last frame seems to me to be going up; I’m not sure why. Like something is springing up from the ground at high speed. Maybe it’s the angle.

I read Cdr Caffey’s obit. Saw the picture, too. Wade sorta favors him. Appears he may have been the original model for Wade, perhaps more than the redoubtable Mr. Elliot.
