I’m afraid I didn’t quite get the punchline. Can somebody help me out please?

One of the things silly putty was used for was rolling out into a pancake and sumushing it onto a color cartoon printed on newsprint. There’s enough ink on the page to be transferred to the surface of the silly putty that when the silly putty was removed from the newspaper, the image was transferred to the surface of the silly putty. You then had a reverse image of the comic on the putty. Why a backwards image of the cartoon is significant I’m not sure. This song might explain it best. https://youtu.be/d8MnyLI7blM

Because then you could stretch and distort the image for more entertainment.
        Sheesh… 😉

Aha! Of course!! Thank you, I had forgotten about that property of Silly Putty… Thanks for helping out an ageing, forgetful Baby Boomer!

One feature of Silly Putty is that when pressed down onto newsprint, and I don’t recall what else, it creates a copy of the print, or the comics, on the surface of the silly putty when it’s peeled back off.
(And Chris took me a LONG way back for that memory!)

I sometimes wonder of Hillary saw “Death Becomes Her” and then had a talk with her mentor.
He thought it was a hoot.

you probably have to be at least 60 years old to get the punchline. the image could be transferred from the Silly Putty by pressing it onto another piece of paper. you could also distort the image by stretching the Silly Putty. didn’t realize Mr. Muir was that old.

Reminds me of the blonde secretary…..how do we know she’s blonde? From the whiteout all over her computer monitor.

As well as being older than dirt, that joke has SO much unPC……sexist, “abelist”, stereotype,….did I forget anything?

Thanks for all the links to cool stuff (Bill, and all y’all)… you broaden my cultural horizons every time! Never heard of the Geezenslaw Brothers, but now I have… ’nuff said, LOL!
    Here’s a song I found down that rabbit hole you might enjoy: “I think my dog’s a Democrat…” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H3VLqLLWxbQ

BTW, today my personal odometer rolled over 65… whoohoo! My three brothers and I grew up without a TV in the house, so the Sunday funnies were a high point in our entertainment landscape. Silly Putty showed up in our Christmas stockings one year, as did ping pong ball guns; fun times!

Nice Blast From The Past, chris.

And Wham-O \’s original Silly Putty and Super Balls are still available through Bed Bath & Beyond and numerous home aid and novelty catalogs.

Wow! I never realized that Silly Putty was a Wham-O product. I always thought their blockbuster entry into the market was the Frisbee. I still have the one my folks bought me in 1960, with years of play scuffs on it.

  • May 16, 2018 at 7:41 pm

    “…catalogs.”

That anything like this “comics section” Damon speaks of? 😉
