I’m guessing Joe’s upbringing, and thus Hunter’s, was a lot like The One’s, philosophically speaking. The same sense of entitlement, the same belief in his own innate superiority, and the same conviction that he was Destined To Rule.
The major difference being that while The Magical One’s mother was dragging him all over the Third World, Joe and later Hunter’s already well-to-do and politically-connected family could kick back and watch the world come to them- as supplicants.
Thus reaffirming Joe’s belief that he was, and is, a Philosopher-King right out of Plato’s Republic.
Philosophers make bad rulers, and as Kings tend to be catastrophes.
As for Hunter- he has apparently never grokked the first lesson of Mafia School;

One of the 1960’s memes was a guy marching up and down the sidewalk wearing a sandwich board sign saying the end of the world was near. We all laughed at it, now the government pays those real sandwich board sign wearers $Millions.
I am still surprised that Hunter, among others in this country, are not sleeping with the fishes. Considering some of the huge money they have scored off of some people that may not be happy with what they have “bought”.
