Great job , Chris! I wish USAF still allowed that kind of Nose Art, but the Woke crowd still considers it “inappropriate.” Our boys should be able to proclaim what they are fighting for! At least the A-10s of the 23rd Fighter Group get to paint the “Tiger-Shark Mouth” on their noses.(Although I hear that some clever deployed guys are using “Chalk Art” to do nose art that can be washed off before returning stateside.)

We did chalk art (actually, white grease pencil) art in the 80s when we deployed overseas. We were going to redeploy with it, being the first Viper unit to not have lost an airplane while deploying to SW Asia, right up until the moment we lost a jet on the last day of operations. The squadron commander was on the phone with Wing telling them about the accident while he’d cover the mouthpiece with his hand and yell into the hanger “have you cleaned those drawings off yet?”

My only RL story about the A-10 involves having a ring side seat to the A-10s gunnery range at Ft. Chaffee Arkansas.
Our tank gunnery range backed up on it, and I’d swear the A-10s actually slowed down in flight when that GAU-8 let rip.

For the AF guys- who gets to determine what the nose art is? Seems that with female pilots, might not be just nekkid women. (If nose art is still approved at all…sigh.

If I’d had a dream like Sam’s, I’d be smiling too. An extra large non-erasable smile.

    John,
Because of the force of the number of rounds being fired from the A10’s GAU-8, yes, the A-10 does slow down in flight.

Take it from a former Hog Driver…

If you’ll notice, the only “nose art” you see on a Hog are the “eyes and mouth” of various creatures (23rd FW Flying Tigers shark mouth, the stylized “Warthog” snout of a outfit in, I think it was Missouri? Etc., etc.) I flew in the 23rd…Once a Tiger, Always a Tiger.

But there IS “nose art” that is the pilot of that jet’s personal statement. It’s just not on the nose. It’s on the inside of the ladder door. As you develop seniority in the unit, you eventually get a specific tail number that is “your” jet, with your rank, name and your crewchief’s just under the left canopy rail. You decide what goes on the door and the chief makes it happen.

Oh, and there’s only one Pave Penny pod hanging down from the nose area (Chris shows two in the strip), on the right side as you look at the jet from the front. Minor detail.

The likes of Eric Swalwell should consider that in the event of either nuclear weapon (i.e., ‘dirty bomb”) use by Hamas etc., or an actual full-on ballistic missile exchange with Red China or Russia, the targets in either case will be almost exclusively the “sophisticated, cosmopolitan” deep blue coastal cities where the Really Smart People live and “manage” things.

Hillary may dream of a mushroom cloud over Kansas City (KS or MO, either one or both).

Chairman Xi, Putin, or Mini-Kim will more likely be drawing a bead on NYC, LA, Frisco or DC.

But then progressives seem incapable of thinking outside the box of their megalomaniac, narcissistic fantasies.

The smallest amount of nukes a major power has is China with 600. Russia has many more. They have more than enough nukes to go around and take out transportation choke points and military bases in the heartland as well as the several dozen coastal cities that are strategically important.

Where the blue city scenario is a player is with a country with limited nukes, like N. Korea or Iran. Between limited resources, limited ability to reach distant targets and cultural prejudices, they can very well think that the most damaging thing to the US would be to take out DC, NY, LA and Hollywood.

Not every Chinese missile with a nuclear weapon has the range to hit an American target, and the inevitable US counterstrikes will quickly destroy most of the remaining ICBMs. China is rapidly building up to 1000 nuclear weapons and the next few hundred ICBMs that they add will probably have the range to hit any target in the USA.
