Protection for Sam first, and her unborn son. So morphing into a shield or cage that allows her to shoot, followed by catch and return to sender. That lock is projectile one…

      I said it yesterday.

  • November 15, 2018 at 12:17 am

Correct response on the part of Sam at this point.

Jo’s turn now…did “she” just crunch that lock? Yikes.

But then Sam’s time to revisit her choice; locked and loaded and don’t wait too long.

The Three Laws are based in the same humanistic pablum as the good Doctor’s statement on violence – “Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent.” I don’t necessarily disagree with that statement, but the problem comes with the generalization – one I suspect the Doctor intended – that ALL violence is the last refuge of the incompetent. Rather, like Colonel Cooper, I acknowledge that violence begats violence, that it is our duty to ensure that violence begats rather more violence that the originator can deal with. Which is about to happen here, I suspect.
As everyone who has touched “I, Robot” since Asimov has noted, the Three Laws are ultimately just a US Robotics marketing ploy, and no guarantee that any actually robots will actually abide by them even if programmed in. There are such things as glitches, and single event upsets, and malware (the modern versiou of lions and tigers and bears), oh my!

I cannot find a reference but I recall Doc A admitting publicly that his 3 laws of robotics would not work. The U.S DoD is already developing winged myrmidons. The term is UCAV (Unmanned Combat Air Vehicles) and they can already run fully autonomously. Their sensors allow them to detect threats and determine a way to neutralize the threat. The Air Force went totally silent about UCAVs a couple of years back and now won’t say one way or another if they even HAVE UCAVs or not. Imagine how much weight would be saved by not having to provide for a pilot. Imagine how maneuverable an attack fighter could be if its maneuvers weren’t limited to the Gs a human can withstand. Think what havoc an AI controlled (i.e. truly “smart”) missile could wreak on a battlefield. UCAVs can already take off, land and even air-to-air refuel totally autonomously. No reason a stealthy UCAV fighter could not be refueled by a stealthy UCAV tanker and everything coordinated by a UCAV AWACS!

Winged Myrmidons? Is that a polite name for Cylon fighter or a Cylon Heavy Raider?

The Navy has already made carrier landings and takeoffs tests with unmanned drone aircraft, a couple of years ago. If these things are going to be used in warfare, the parts need to be programmed to self-destruct to inert and useless, if/when they crash or are shot down.

But – well, why not test them here? They do look kind of like Cylon fighters. They just don’t do that ‘neerroo-neeerrroo’ noise when the scanner light moves left/right/left.

I have always had issue with the modern alarmism about oncoming weaponized AI. Unmitigated B/S. It’s been here for years already. Pretty much any ASCM is an AI with a warhead. Many “intelligence” research divisions have programs centered around studying missile seeker logic and how to best counter it.

I enjoyed the Foundation series immensely when I was a child. Later, I realized that Asimov was nothing but an unreconstructed statist. He was not only a fan of a single universal government, but actually created *two* levels of Deep State to “step in and save the day” — a Second Foundation, and an immortal nonhuman accountable to no one. Distasteful.

Just a minor, but not insignificant, technical point here, Wayne. The Three Laws of Robotics are applicable only to robot/human interactions. Since all available empirical evidence previously gathered from their collective and individual actions indicates that Antifa are not, in fact, human, but rather are animals, the Three Laws do not come into play here….

It would probably be more appropriate to term the antifas 5 year old children in adult bodies. Their behavior is tantrum-oriented. A good spanking with Mrs. Imhoff’s paddle which she kept over the blackboard might do them all a world of good. It’s amazing what happens to a tantrum-throwing infant’s mind when two hard smacks are delivered to center gluteal muscle mass.

I’m not in favor of whacking children, but….

Evil triumphs if good men do nothing. Evil breeds from jealousy, greed, and a desire to hold power over others.

Evil grows when leaders preach hate and lies to their followers. We have seen that for the last ten or twelve years.

Rounding them up on any pretense and then de-programming them (while awaiting trial, and perhaps with a good dose of Jordan Peterson) would be the fate they fear most, the best deterrent, and the best solution to our problem.
