I mean a read of that posting leaves no doubt about its editorial preferences, just like the platforms referenced here.

Gab is the conservative parallel to Twatter (I belong to neither).
Where is the conservative parallel to FaceBorg? I’d love to kick FuckZuck in the mangina by leaving, and telling him so as I leave.

The problem with FuckZuck, Twatter, and other Socialist Media, is that they claim to be one thing, an open platform vs (something else). One is open to all, the other can be “edited”. One is ungoverned, the other can be put under gubberment control. Socialist Media is playing one end against the other.

I don’t spend much time of FB and when I do I am catching up with family and friends. There are two FB groups I belong to, one that deals with my old home town and another that is a boating group for the big lake up here. That means I’m on it once or twice a month. I didn’t want to get dragged down the rathole of PC/Woke/#Resist BS.

      • May 6, 2019 at 11:36 am

Any blog would suffice for that, with all members allowed to post. That technology is as old as the internet itself. Even pre-internet was the “message board”. You have no excuse.

      • May 6, 2019 at 12:38 pm

The “excuse” is the market penetration/critical mass (and the inherent money/power that flows from that). That pure ubiquity and ability to buy out the newer platforms favored by younger ones means that trying to entice those relatives to what they regard as old dead communication (snail mail or even phone calls anybody?) Not happening; TDBW would be chatting to himself.

But new-gen tech will appeal to them and possibly be resistant to those dominant forces, although as you say they may be corrupted out of the gate. We’ll see.

  • May 6, 2019 at 9:02 am

DT has made cryptic reference to 5G and specifically forbade gov interference.

What the major platforms have now is critical mass and the mega $ that comes with it which gives them almost limitless power not only to impose their preferences but to stifle competition. As I implied at the top it is no longer capitalism when it becomes a defacto shadow-gov.

Let’s see what possibilities the expanded tech can provide that I believe not just Trump but free enterprise and free speech needs to counter it.

    • May 6, 2019 at 2:10 pm
      kadaka

5G requires many smaller repeaters at neighborhood level thus will be very difficult to implement in distant rural areas, like just a mile out of town. “Government” wants to hire hundreds of thousands of union workers to install 5G where there are very few to no people over several years and before those contracts are done there will be next-generation upgrades available and replacements needed thus another round of contracts. And of course there will be a sop to “renewable energy” with solar and wind power sources with pricey batteries good for several days.

There are great reasons right there to keep government far away from 5G.

      • May 6, 2019 at 3:35 pm

“…keep government far away from 5G.”

Pretty much the gist of all of my blather for today, and that Trump has foreseen and addressed.

But that does not seem to jibe well with your song of praise of subsidies and special deals down below?

Specifically of course, Amazon is absolutely as much of a quasi-gov platform of inclusion/exclusion of capitalism and free commerce as any of the antisocial platforms under discussion today, and with an identical accumulation of critical mass and therefore money/power to corrupt…and they do.

      • May 6, 2019 at 4:08 pm
        kadaka

Amazon has alternatives like eBay to Etsy, with eBay having many stores, carts, and a single-point checkout. Amazon also has many third-party sellers, like WalMart-dot-com does, but Amazon does mention when something is available and cheaper from them.

Amazon may have limits on the material they sell, but no bookstore is required to have everything available. The Amazon Smile program is criticized because they banned groups based on SPLC’s blacklist, but that program is Amazon taking a cut of their own revenues for a donation.

Bezos bought WaPo himself and otherwise plays politics with his own money but keeps Amazon away from controversial stuff. As the ancient wisdom goes:

        Just hold on loosely
        But don’t let go
        If you cling too tightly
        You’re gonna lose control

      • May 6, 2019 at 4:54 pm

Disclosure: Been Amazon Prime just about since inception. Availed myself of Zero’s socialist ploys directly and indirectly too…advised one child to take the 8K first time homebuyer subsidy, another to take the 5K home upgrade one, and myself I’ve had 2K mo. healthcare almost free since semi-retirement the last two years (we hit Medicare this year, so the socialism continues). But just because I’m a whore doesn’t mean it’s right.

“Is it really capitalism if it is a monopoly?”

Amen! Also, is it capitalism when the product is an essential service critical to our political system. Think of it as a voting machine in whose world there is only one voting machine manufacturer and the software for its operation only records votes for one candidate regardless of the one selected by the voter.

    • May 6, 2019 at 11:54 am
      NotYetInACamp

      Oh! Our current system.
How much of our system does Soros have his tentacles into by way of buying voting machine corporations.. That includes the software companies for said voting machines.
Any system that does not have a hard copy protected with the same intensity as past paper ballots were is liable to computer manipulation by criminals.
The Florida system with hard ballots that are counted at the time of voting and again after they are taken to the county election office and under guard all along the way has some hope. I do not recall if an electronic picture is taken every time a ballot is counted. Multiple records and personal presence make it harder to steal or manipulate and steal the votes and elections. The idea is to make it too difficult to be easily done. The thieves have to pay too much to buy it like in the old days, is the idea. Culture has much to do with it. Our society only works if the majority, or enough, people are moral. Bringing in incompatible or corrupt societal members from other cultures creates areas where the corruption of vote theft has no moral sanction, and often is seen as the norm. The UK always had a great supply of moral people who would accurately count every ballot correctly as an absolute duty. the incursion of hostile cultures is reducing that. Same effect here in the USA. Invaders will, and do, consider conquest by ballot fraud to be valid and a just victory against the fools that let them win that way.
Apply the law. Write new law to preserve the honesty as needed.

    Regardless of the platform and who owns it, the internet infrastructure itself is a cesspool of subsidy, special deals, and the shadow government which always follows. You could build your own server farm and build up your own free platform over time, with your own blood, sweat and tears, and that old, Romish/communist assertion will always be there;
“You didn’t build that! Someone else made that happen!” (You’re using state-subsidized infrastructure, therefore your content belongs to Rome). In their eyes, you are NOTHING without them, thus you owe them EVERYTHING.

On the radio just this morning I heard some politician yammering about how “We” need to get more high-speed internet into more places. There’s one reason why a politician would even consider any such, and that’s to impose control. Democrats and Republicans work together on this stuff too.

    • May 6, 2019 at 1:49 pm
      kadaka

“the internet infrastructure itself is a cesspool of subsidy, special deals”

What really helped make eBay a success was flat rate shipping from the US Post Office, if it fits then it ships, same cost down the street or to the tips of Alaska and Hawaii. And Amazon used that and garnered better deals as FedEx and UPS joined in. Now Chewy will happily drop 40-50# boxes of pet stuff at your door for free at less cost for the contents than even big stores, who are also joining in with free shipping.

And I so much love Amazon Prime where for a nominal fee I get free entertainment and on a whim I can think about needing something that only costs a few bucks, search, click, and there it is just a few days later at no extra charge, knowing it would cost me more to ship it than I paid for the item.

This is all highly un-American, based on the USPS involuntary government monopoly “shared burden” model that ignores real costs and perpetually runs at a deficit. And it generates massive paper trails for tracking purchases that are useful for government investigations. Yet those who utilize it for selling are normally making profits, other shipping companies seem fine and provide an alternative to the government monopoly.

Started as effectively a subsidy that shared the burden, allowed building a massive chunk of the modern economy that shares the wealth, and is now largely obsoleted by more efficient alternatives. Subsidies and special deals can be good for capitalism and citizens who are smart enough to properly use them.

And, I suppose, they could not handle the pragmatism that I used to solve problems, rather than solely ideology or emotions and caring and crutches for those that needed to and could take responsibility for themselves. In a thread that’s all about messaging it sure seems apropos here to mention my continuing admiration and amazement at the capacity of our CIC to absorb the single-minded attempted destruction of him by the progs and their media minions while making major moves with world-changing implications on an international stage…

So right now the markets are having their complacency shaken up by Trump telling China not to get too comfy with the presumption that they have dodged the trade bullet and their crooked business as usual with a bold threat to up the tariff ante if they don’t shape up fast…and there is a clear implied connection there to the next initiative on this list too.

Then we have him making veiled threats with deceptively kind words for rocket boy in NoKo to keep to the agreed program or pay a big price…and you know that pompous little pimple gets the drift and will get the pressure from his Chink patrons too.

And finally a carrier and bomber group is steaming to its way to waters off Iran with DT authorizing Bolton to issue what is openly being called a “clear and unmistakable message” that you know is coming through loud and clear.

That smarmy little pussy Suckerberg better pay close attention to what real-deal messaging is all about, and what just might happen to him if he pushes it too far.

You know all that joking for decades about New Jersey being a toxic waste dumping ground? It’s been seeping out of Newark.

Democratic New Jersey Sen. and 2020 presidential candidate Cory Booker proposed sweeping gun control legislation on Monday.

Booker’s proposal would, among other things, force Americans to have a sit-down interview with a federal government employee in order to purchase a firearm.

Booker also refused to say whether he would prosecute those who refused to comply with a gun buyback.

“We should have a law that bans these weapons and we should have a reasonable period in which people can turn in these weapons,” Booker said.

I am now grateful for casino gambling in Pennsylvania as my fellow citizens can easily boycott Atlantic City in protest.
